Whenever the brakes are applied the front end of the vehicle would shimmy. Would let brakes go when vehicle started to shimmy. This occurred at various speeds. It was an intermittent problem. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and had the rotors turned and brakes replaced. The rotors would be turned every 6,000 to 10,000 miles. The problem had not been resolved.
The back brakes locked up at 55 mph, which made me lose control and slam into a tree pretty hard. The road condition was paved and dry. Legal proceedings will occur if Chevrolet doesn't resolve this matter!.
When depressing the brake pedal is delayed. The consumer has made contact with the dealership. Please provide any further details.
Consumer states that when trying to apply the anti lock brakes they will lock up, causing vehicle to have extended stopping distance. Dealer notified.
The consumer believes the brakes are designed improperly. The dealer inspected the vehicle but could not duplicate or correct the problem.

The brakes on the Malibu are a safety issue and GMC doesnt care. I have had the rotors done 5 times since 3000 miles. My dealer has had my car for a total of 19 days for repairs. There are numerous other problems with this car also. Iam tired of being told i6ts not a safety issue, well it is to all of with children and other loved ones in the car. Lets stop the politics and please do something for the consumer. (tiresize: 215).
Consumer would step on brake pedal to stop or reduce speed, but could feel a vibration on steering wheel. Also, vehicle will pull to the left. This problem had happened, and vehicle had been taken for repairs many times for brakes.
While driving stepped on brakes pedal to stop, but vehicle will not stop, just keeps going, causing extended stopping distance.
In the 10 months that we have owned that car, they have had to replace the rotors three times. Each time they have told us that the 2000 Malibu's have this problem, yet gm hasn't recalled them. I've had two other mechanics look at the latest set and they want to know why there is so much play in the rotors. The rotors , they say, don't fit on the wheel studs right. The studs are not in the center of the holes on the rotors. I asked the service dept at stadium about this but they have yet to return my call.
Car brake apply they tend not to work when it wet or rain and have to stop quickly to avoid other car the car start to slide when apply brakes.
At 6,499 miles odometer reading, the dealer rotated tires. At that point the car front vibrated, steering wheel shakes, and brakes pulsate when brakes are applied. There were no problems prior to the dealer rotating the tires wheels; service rep indicated most likely rotors were damaged with air torque tightened lugs too tight; damaged rotors. Springs in rear continue to squeak. Factory defaults? bulletins ? how to obtain?.
Rotors failed at 7426;11874;18701 miles. Chevrolet no help.
Brakes and rotors were replaced the first time at 14,614 miles with gm's "new design". Then again 5 months later, at 22,679 miles. The dealership admitted that GMC has a problem with these and has yet to resolve the problem. I was told that it will very likely occur again. I was also told that they did replace this free of charge twice already now, and so the next time I would have to pay. I do not understand why gm continues to sell a known defected product, and surely I'm not expected to repeatedly replace the brakes as the dealership says.
Brakes and rotors have been replaced three times since purchase of vehicle. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything. *akconsumer was advised by dealership that this is normal wear due to excessive braking.
Slowed down to make turn, brakes did not work. Called dealer, don't have parts in. Been waiting for parts since April, 2000. Now they will not return my calls.
When brake pedal was applied in a panic stop pedal went to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. Dealer has replaced the front brake rotors and lining.
Tires failed over time. Had to have a realignment and new front brakes installed even though the tires had been rotated and kept up to the recommended pressure. Abnormal wear on the outer front left tire and belt separation occurred on the right front to the point where it was very difficult to balance. After the realignment about 3 weeks ago, the car began to shake on the front end again due to another bad tire rotated up from the rear. ( dot number: tire size: p215/60r15 ).
At any speed would apply brakes to slow down or stop pedal and vehicle would pulsate. Stopping distance would be increased. Also, failed to stop sometimes. Had rotors changed due to being warped. Will be taking vehicle to dealership for 3rd time for brakes.
The brakes have continually failed every 3 months since 3000 miles. The car is not safe for my wife and children. The car should be recalled and repurchased by gm. Gm told me ms karen roberts that they are aware of the problem, but its not a safety issue until someone gets hurt. . Are they crazy? the Malibu is an unsafe car. Even my service advisor harry haigh said the car should be replaced. The Malibu is an engineering nightmare. (tiresize: p215/60/r1).
I have brought my car back to the dealership twice, and twice I have left disappointed. Both times, I was reassured that nothing was wrong with my car, though my front brakes vibrate constantly. I was told earlier this year that the 2000 model of my car had brake defects, but have not been able to find any information to back this story. I am truly concerned for my welfare, especially since I commute to work daily approximately 33 miles each way. I have felt put off by the dealership because I am a female, and obviously "don't know much about cars". I have purchased 2 others cars from this dealership, and had no major problems. This time, I received poor service, and now , a potential lemon. Please help if you can. I have contacted my local dcp, but was told I could not do anything about the car without having it serviced at least 4 times. I feel that's too many times to risk my life.

On two occasions at an intersection and upon applying brakes, vehicle commenced to jerk itself into an intersection. At another time, it occurred while waiting at a stop light. It started to jerk itself again while applying the brakes. Vehicle has been in/out of dealer's shop on three occasions, and the problem is still unresolved.
Steering wheel shimmy. Abnormal brake pedal vibration (not abs). Car pulls to one side while applying brakes.
Abs is not gripping. Braking is increased, but vehicle still slides. Dealer notified.
Front brake rotors are wearing excessively. Consumer has replaced brake rotors on four different occasions. Also, when applying brakes to make a gradual stop vehicle skidded to a stop, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer has contacted dealer. Manufacturer linked the problem to non-adjustments to brakes. Please provide any further details.
Brakes were grinding. Technician replaced them; however, problem returned. Please provide further information.
Intermittently when the brakes are applied the vehicle will stop; however it will continue to roll. The dealer has repaired the vehicle 5times.
