As driving along the highway the car completely shut off and would not start up again and has not started up since. The car was in motion, I was on the highway, traveling on I-10 highway.

I can not remove the key from the ignition after putting the car in park. The above happened randomly at first, but got worse, and now happens every single time. I now have to leave the key in the car, in the accessory position, and carry a second key just to lock and unlock the car. If I don't restart the car within a few hour hours, the battery would be drained, and I would have to get a jump start - this had happened to me a few times. I searched this issue on the internet and found an article from autonews. Com dated December 11 2014 saying that gm is aware of this problem, and would fix it if asked (not a recall). I contacted two local Chevrolet dealerships: community Chevrolet (16 Jan 2015) and rydell Chevrolet (19 Jan 2015), but was told they are not aware of any authorization from gm to fix the above stated issue. Please help me resolve this problem with gm.
I am appaled that I have received a recall notice in the mail, and when I go to make the appointment in order to repair the damage, no parts are available until mid October. The recall notice states we should schedule an appointment on or after October 1, 2014. However, what's the point? there are no parts available?.
My boyfriend and I bought a 2000 chevy Malibu from a used car dealer in June of 2013. In August I was driving to a doctor's appointment and there was a lot of traffic so I got off the freeway and took back roads - and I am glad I did. While I was on a road where the speed limit was 45 miles per hour the car just started speeding on its own. The rpm's went up along with the speed and you could hear the engine just roaring. I was able to stop safely and I pulled into a bar parking lot and called a tow truck. When the tow guy got to the parking lot he opened the hood of my car and the throttle was about an inch from being removed from the apparatus that it is supposed to be attached to. He put the throttle back to where it was supposed to be and told me I should be fine - I said no and had it towed to a auto shop where they said the only thing they could do is zip tie the throttle to the apparatus. So my throttle and my safety currently depend on a zip tie. . .
Bought this car as a project car with low mileage. Got bought at a used car dealership. Piston slap!!! especially cold. Front sub frame rotted out and rack and pinion destroyed needed immediate replacement. Later was told rocker panels are destroyed with huge holes I was clearly upset another Malibu with another problem. Common problem with Malibu's from '98-'02. Was unable to safety because of panels missing a layer in spots (holes). Rear quarter panels severe rotting around wheel wells and gas cap area requiring bondo to fill in holes a horrible problem with Malibu's. Air conditioning clutch grinding constantly and half the time a/c bottom works. Sadly gm will not recall these issues now have to invest $7000 to make into a show car. Gm should be ashamed of body problems and constant piston slaps and lifter knocking. I have to do an overhaul of $600-800 on engine. . Read more...
2000 Chevrolet Malibu. Consumer writes in regards to theft system light malfunction causes vehicle not to start, has had ignition cylinder/passlock sensor replaced several times and problem still exists. The consumer stated the vehicle takes 10 to 25 minutes before the theft system light to go off. Updated 03/31/2017.
While driving, ignition switch failed causing the engine to stop with loss of power steering, brakes, etc. Failure was intermittent and required repeated service calls to identify the source of problem as the ignition switch.
After parking the car I was notified by a neighbor that my vehicle was on fire. The fire dept. Was call and extinguished the fire. The arson squad was called and determined the vehicles fire was due to a mechanical problem. After I researched the vehicle safety recalls and found out there had been a recall for this vehicle and I was unaware of it. I purchased it used. I did not receive any notice on the recall. I found there were many other fires associated with this failure. The vehicle was totally burned up vehicle was non repairable and towed to the junk yard after arson investigation was complete.
My car has expereinced trouble starting due to this ignition swirch, recall. I have been stranded multiple times. I have been to service stations and the mechanincs could not figure out what was going on, causing me to put out money for a new starter, a new electrical system, new fuel pump etc. The problems that I have faced were due to the ignition switch not being in the "run" position. How can I ever be compensated for all of the repairs that were not really needed on my car due to some major corporation being greedy and keeping it's customers in the dark about the reality of the situation. Gm has been putting me in danger for years now, and I have to continue to wait for the parts to be made to correct their error. I have been stranded on the road and in undesired places, this is unforgivable!.
: the contact stated while parked in the driveway, a leak was noticed under the vehicle. It was driven to the dealer who determined the intake gasket needed to be replaced.
2000 Malibu engine gaskets had to be replaced. The air condition control head was replaced.
I went in to find out why I have no heat and the repair guy said there was anti freeze leaking on to engine block. He said that the head gaskets and the intake gasket needed replacing and it would cost $1500.
I purchased a 2000 chevy Malibu LS in December of 2002. After purchasing this vehicle someone working in the service department of a gm dealership told me I had made a big mistake. He said the engine had a serious problem. He told me the lower intake gasket would eventually fail. The only way of fixing the problem also involves removing the entire engine from the car. In September of 2005 my car has developed this problem. I then contacted a mechanic to find how common a problem this is for the engine. He was under the impression it happened to all gm v6 engines. This failure is a major mechanical expense which I do not have the funding to fix. With less than 65,000 miles I do not feel a car should develop major mechanical defects.
Coolant in the oil. Has always over heated in stop & go traffic, no one knows how to fix but is aware of the problem & says gm could care less & won't fix it. How many complaints do you need before this very common complaint is recognized & is recalled????????.
Consumer's vehicle experienced the same problem as stated in recall 03v327000. However, the vehicle became became inoperable.
As reading over the website I notice the 2000 Malibu is pretty much a lemon. I have had to replace the radio, pretty much every gasket in the engine, the fuel pump, brakes front and rear, now my turn signals don't work, just found out about the recall I have to check to see if I qualify, my engine knocks on cold starts, and it practically losses all power when I go to accelerate . . And top it off my transmision slips. . This vehicle needs to be looked into . . And something needs to be done about it.
Intake gasket had to be replaced.
I bought my car on 7/21/01, it has been in for repairs 10/3/01, 7/12/02,12/11/02, 6/23/03 and 6/24/03. The problem is electrical and the engine as well. Chevrolet has run diagnostics many times but is not able to fix the problem for good. Everytime I take my car in, I am told it's now something different that has broken. My car will break down and sometimes if I allow it to sit for 10 - 20 minutes it will start right back up. For as many times as my car has been repaired, it has broken down at least three times before I take it in. My dispute with chevy is my car is a lemon. They cannot determine what is wrong with it because diagnostics is unable to duplicate the problem. Chevy informed me that does not mean there isn't a problem it just means the computer cannot detect it. I have filed with the bbb auto line but because my car has more than 24,000 miles they say I am out of luck. Chevy is unwilling to do anything about the problems I am having with my car. My dispute is should a car break down at least 5-10 times a year?.
The paint on hood started chipping @ or about 30k dealer said not warranty problem. Beginning Apr 2002 car intermitantly has had a "surging" immediately after starting & putting in gear. At first just 1 or 2 times in 3 or 4 mos. Now the last 8-9 weeks it has happened more & more frequently, then 2 weeks ago the cruise control became erratic in activation & now won't work at all.
This car has been one problem after another. The day after we leased the car it was in the shop for the brakes, the car has had 2 engines in it. The transmission has been rebuilt. The brakes are still not correct. Transmission is slipping again and the 3 year warranty is up. We complained to Chevrolet and the bbb. To no avail they seemed to be on Chevrolet's side in the case. We were to the point that we were just going to let the car go back but that would only hurt my husband's credit more then it was already. We had to keep the car through the lease. This left a really bad tast in my mouth for purchasing new vehicles because you are stuck with it for the duration of the lease or purchase.
