Noticed coolant leaking for the 2nd time in 2 years. This is now the 2nd time to replace intake manifold gasket. The 1st replacement was done 2006 for ~$750. Now the estimate to replace gasket and flush cooling system is ~ $800. New radiator may be required if the service shop can not flush oil out of the radiator.
While driving my car along the freeway and without any notice the car went from having a normal temp to red lining on the temperature. I immediately slowed the vehicle down and turned on the heat. At this point no heat came out and soon afterwards the vehicle overheated and died. I cruised it off the freeway and onto a side road. I was in the middle of nowhere and a passerby was nice enough to stop. I ended up refilling the coolant and was able to drive to where I need to go and return home. I had refill the fluid level multiple times. I took it to a radiator shop that stated that the seals on my engine were leaking exhaust into the fluids which caused the vehicle to overheat. They stated that chevy was having trouble with the dexacool coolant in the vehicles and that it was eating away the seal in the engine.
: the contact stated while driving the heat indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was pulled off the road without incident, coolant and water was added to the radiator. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, upon inspection the intake manifold gasket had been leaking. The gasket allowed the coolant to leak onto the exhaust, causing the vehicle to over heat. The manufacturer was alerted.
Car was getting hot then cooling back down, while getting hot heater would not work. Took to mechanic, had thermostat and water pump replaced. Car ran fine for a couple of days, then same problem. Took back to mechanic. He said its possible the thermostat purchased was defective. Installed new thermostat from the dealership. Got in car did not get hot and cool back down it got to normal operating temperature and heater worked. Three days later, car started getting hot, cooling back down and bubbling the water out of the overflow reservoir. There are no leaks anywhere,no blown gasket, or cracks. This problem is becoming a big pain. I think it is a defect caused by manufacturer and if the problem cant be fixed, I know ill never own another gm {great mistake} vehicle again.
Vehicle first towed to shop on 04/04/00 for vehicle overheating. Top radiator hose split. Informed dealer of vibration in front end at 30 mph and up, they said they could not duplicate. On 04/11/00 heard thumping noise from front and while pulling in driveway lost control of left front wheel. Towed to dealer and left side outer tie rod end replaced. Picked up from dealer on 04/12/00 and 2 miles away abs light came on. Parked vehicle in driveway and next morning light was off. Left for work and got 6 miles away when check engine light came on and transmisson started slipping. Caled and notified chevy and they said drive vehicle then have it towed in the next day. On 04/14/00 was driving down road at 40 mph when I lost control of steering again and hit a tree. Repairs to steering/abs light/check engine light/transmssion slipping not taken care of yet.
