• yes, the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. • the failure of the power steering system made it extremely difficult to steer the vehicle, especially at lower speeds, which put my safety and the safety of others at risk by increasing the likelihood of an accident. It would turn on and go off by itself at random spurts, which was very unusual. • no, the problem has not been reproduced by another dealer. • the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealer’s service department. As well as, not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. • no it just randomly had a warning light one day when I got in it to crank it like a normal day. But never warned me before hand, but when it did come on, but it appeared on the dashboard indicating a power steering issue, and abs and brake warning light. The abs and brake warning light first appeared about two weeks before the complete failure of the system. Which I became without a vehicle for about 3 months because of it.

One day I was on the highway with my kids and the power steering light came on and my wheel locked and it was very hard to turn it. It was very scary going 50 mph trying to get off a exit and not being able to turn my wheel. I needed just have to let my car sit because I cld not afford the cost to get it fixed and I didn't do anything to cause that I called chevy gave them my VIN number and they said there wasn't a recall but I see ppl with Malibu's have the same issue . This cld have been deadly me and my 2 kids could have gotten severely hurt that's not okay that this happened.
The passenger light beam will not come on it also messes with my radio it turns it to the aux I keep replacing the bub in the harness and it's still not working not not to mention the car felt like a lost of power due to I guess the trance when turning a corner or pulling off. The air bag light comes on a few days and turn off.
Slow to accelerate then jerks forward . Car has65000 on it no transmission leaks plus the transmission is sealed . No dip stick to check level. Dealer said that's because it's a sealed unit. They aslo said l dont have to change it just yet. Low miles. However I've heard this years transmission are very bad.
The power steering sensor stop's steering during driving and traction loss. This car is very dangerous and costly to repair. I pray nobody dies from this. I see many complaints about this from other owners.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010. The contact stated while driving at various mph the vehicle unexpectedly went into different shifts with the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was seen by a independant mechanic for a diagnosis and the diagnosis was a failed transmission. The dealer and the mechanic both agreed that the failure is not part of a recall and the contact was responsible for the repaire. The failure mileage was 105,000 tp.
Over a period of about a month, 2010 chevy Malibu began losing power steering. I would turn off car to restart electrical system, it worked for a couple of weeks. Then power steering went out completely. Repair shop informed me of extended warranty for the car but unfortunately it expired 3 days after my problem occurred. Loss of power steering happens when in motion, when starting car and when parked. Shaking wheel.
I would be driving down the highway when the vehicle would start to shake and the power would drop to 20 mph. This would happen anytime, any where. Turn vehicle off sit. A couple of minutes and would be ok to drive for awhile. If happens no matter what type of area driving. Highway city or even parking lot. Can not find problem with anything. Need immediate help with problem. Could cause accident and death on a busy highway or roadway.
When driving it the transmission don't kick in until you get pass 30 miles and then it's doing everything that you have a recall on some of the other 2010 chevy Malibu just trying to see why my VIN number hasn't been recall. I have to put my emergency lights own sometime so I won't be in a reck getting my grandkids to and from school I fear for our safety but this is my only transportation so if you can pleas check and see if I have a recall on my VIN number it would please be appreciate sign a caring grandmother trying to keep her family safe 🙏🏽🙏🏽.
During driving, vehicle slips in/out/past 2nd gear (or no 2nd gear is available). No 6th gear available. Happens constantly in city or highway traffic. There is a manufacturer recall (dtc p2714) on other 2010 Chevrolet of the same model as well as several others for this same issue but the manufacturer states that the recall does not cover my VIN.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While pulling into the driveway, the vehicle could not be shifted into park. The contact had to engage the emergency brake in order for the vehicle to remain in park. In addition, the power trac control warning indicator illuminated. O'connor Chevrolet Buick GMC (199 riverside dr, augusta, me 04330) was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and the failure recurred. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign numbers: 12v460000 (power train) and 14e044000 (steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Driving car, pressed on gas pedal, car will not move, had car towed to dealer, was informed I needed new transmmision, car only had 69,000 miles and warranty is expired!!!!.
In 2012, we were driving along and attempted to back into a parking spot, when the car refused to reverse. It started going slower than the usual speed limit, so I didn't know what to do. I pulled out to head home, but the car didn't get much speed, nor would it reverse at all. I had it towed and the transmission was burned out. I'd only had the car less than 30,000 miles. Chevrolet repaired or rebuilt the transmission. A year later, I was pulled over due to the tail lights not working. 2016 the car wouldn't pick up speed again. I had it towed and the transmission had burned out again. We got it rebuilt a second time and now the lights, wipers, door locks, and windows aren't working again either. Obviously there's a manufacturer issue that needs reviewing on this year Malibu.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle was unable to properly change gears when needed. Byford Chevrolet Buick GMC (7755 us-81, duncan, ok 73533, 1-(888) 397-6541) was contacted. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the transmission assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer issued 54 tsbs for the power train, but no recall was issued. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 12v460000 (power train). The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the vehicle shook and shut off. The esc, reduced engine power and the traction control light s illuminated. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to two different dealers, including the mcgrath auto dealer, located at 1548 collins rd ne, cedar rapids, IA 52402) where it was diagnosed that the power torque sensor needed to be replaced or repaired. The failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure the first time and referred the contact to the dealer at no charge. The manufacturer was not made aware this time, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. Fe.
While driving the car through a intersection the car seemed to loose power. The car was able to only be moved when put into 2nd gear with the manual mode. Reverse was gone. This happened all of a sudden with no issues to the transmission before hand.
Car hesitates to change gears at higher speeds and stalls after driving reasonably short distances. The driver front wheel bearings have been changed for only a few months and are already causing the same problem as before.
My right front headlight (regular low beam) keeps going out and having to be replaced. My mechanic replaced it in July of this year, and again in October, and it is out yet again, not even two months later. My mechanic can't find any reason for it. In addition, my service air-bag light is on, although it's never gone off, and the entire transmission had to be replaced at about 63,000 miles. Regarding the light - so far, I've been lucky that it hasn't contributed to any kind of accident, especially since deer are very active at this time of year and are very common in our area.
Tl the contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. While driving 75 mph, the electronic stability control active and check engine indicators illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle decelerated from 75 mph to 40 mph. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Car just stopped without warning! very scary situation! fortunately no other car crashed into me but that would've been a likely scenario. Not only a costly repair but an extreme safety issue. $3400 to repair! apparently and unfortunately I'm not alone. Chevy should step up and help us all out. Like many others, never a chevy again!.
Power reduced engine, traction control,.
Have a 2010 Malibu with approximately 112,000 miles on it. Car is well maintained and has had regular maintenance / vehicle inspections (including a week prior to incident). I was out running errands and had stopped at a stop light. A few minutes later as I was turning on to the highway, the car jolted forward and then refused to accelerate. Fortunately, I was able to maneuver it over to the side of the highway without any problems. Car could not be driven and had to be towed to my mechanic and it was determined that my transmission was shot and would need to be replaced. Very costly repair that needed to be done as it is my only vehicle. Seems to be an issue with 2010 Malibus that needs to be addressed!!!.
I was driving at a speed of 40 mph when all of a sudden I heard a high revving sound as if another vehicle was right beside me passing and soon realized that it was my car revving with the rpm gauge going above 3 and my car slowing down. Moments later my passengers and I felt a sudden "jerk" and the car jetted forward only to start revving again and this time I was merely moving at about 20 mph as I was still in shock from the first revving and non-accelerating moment. After trying helplessly to get the car to move at a speed of at least 15-20 mph, I decided to stop/restart the car and try using the manual shift. It gave another sudden "jerking" movement and moved in m5 but not even 10 seconds the car started with the loud revving sound as if I were mashing gas which I wasn't and we barely made it home at about 10mph using hazard lights. We basically had to push it over 2 very small speed bumps on the way in the gate. I decided to take it to the autonation shevy dealership where I bought it but unfortunately the car would not move and instead had to be towed there. Autonation chevy did a "diagnosis" of sorts and within moments called to say that there is metal in the transmission and I need to pay a whopping $4,300. 00 to have it fixed. Of course I could go on about how frustrating and humiliating this whole ordeal has been from beginning to $$$$ end bud I'd appreciate it if chevy can reach out to me because I have a friend who said she had the same issue with her Malibu. I'm sure there are others out there but I'm now wondering if chevy wants to wait until god forbid a dire situation occurs before they fix this problem.
Malibu decreases speed and downshifts and engine power reduced comes up in message center, no bumps, hard braking, no carwashes, simply driving down the road at 45mph and car illuminates engine light. Several parts have been replaced already for example throttle body, knock sensor, maf sensor, battery, fuse box, accelerator pedal all of these parts and my issue still persists. Several complaints have been made for this year make and model therefore I do not feel like this is an isolated issue.
Power steering warning is come on when try to start car . Not safety to drive . What to do???.
My 2010 Malibu 2lt 6 cylinder engine has a wave plate failure. This causes revving of the engine non-movement low speeds and it comes and goes as it wants. General motors has not included this even though this car was built in 2009. In which an extended warranty was issued for this ecact problem see gm bulletin # 14404 this dangerous and also a very expensive repar.
I have 2010 chevy Malibu I love my car it has never given me any problems the whole 3 years of owning it just the normal maintenance. One day I was driving at a speed of 25 mph and I crossed over an intersection and as soon as I did so I pushed to gas pedal to accelerate a little and I noticed that it wasn't going. This was very dangerous because I had my children in the car and another vehicle was right behind me and could have caused a car crash. I didn't realize that the car had shut off because everything was still work radio was on , lights were working. So I pulled over and turned the car completely off and when I tried to turn it back on it wouldn't start. The engine just kept turning over and not getting a good spark. And it also caused the battery to fail so I had to get a new battery. I changed the camshaft sensor, the crankshaft sensor and the car is still doing the same thing. This is a huge inconvenience for me because no one can find out what the problem is because the battery died o lost all diagnostic codes. Now what?.
Driving on the freeway going 60 and the car started revving really high until I got my speed down to forty and it wouldn't go more than 40. When I stopped to let car cool and I restarted it, I drove it around the block a few times and it started the same revving and not going faster tnan 40. I tried to back the car into my driveway and it would not go.
Power steering failed for the second time on September 10, 2017. I had to replace the steering column in November 2016 for the same condition. There is a recall for chevy Malibus up until the 2009 model year and clearly there is a weakness in the 2010. This failure was while I was parked in a tight spot and couldn't get out. I restarted the car until it recalibrated, but it will undoubtedly go again. Repeat of previous problem. Also had to replace the transmission after complete failure at 48,000 miles in January 2017. That was a mere $4600. It failed while in motion, but fortunately I was uphill from my home and I was able to roll it to the curb.
While in motion on the freeway, my vehicle began would not speed up when I stepped on the gas. The car revved up but it would not speed up. I continued to slow down as cars approached me from behind. I was afraid they might hit me so I moved to the side of the road. I tried to accelerate while on the side of the road but it would only rev up and not move. I switched the gearshift several times between park, neutral, reverse and drive. I could only go a few feet at a time. The car was towed to my parents house and sits there today because mechanics said that I needed a new transmission.
Since I drove this car off the lot in 2010, once every six months or so, this car will suddenly downshift greatly reducing the speed. It is the equivalent of engine braking. It was under an unfixed recall when I purchased it. The dealership, parkway Chevrolet, made multiple attempts to fix the problem, but it still persists to this day. Given the sudden deceleration that this causes, and the only resolution is to turn the car off and restart it, I feel this problem can cause death to the occupants of the car. The most common time that this happens is when the driver is changing lanes and they go over a raised lane marker - one of those little dots separating lanes in the southern states. The last time this happened was two days ago.
