I am writing to report a serious and unacceptable issue with the exterior paint and clear coat on my 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The clear coat has become dull and faded on the hood and roof, and the side panels are beginning to chip and peel, despite regular washing and maintenance. This paint deterioration started well before what would be expected in a properly manufactured vehicle finish, especially for one that has been well cared for and is only a few years old. The vehicle has never been in an accident, and the finish failure appears to be due to a defect in the clear coat or paint application process at the factory. This not only affects the appearance and value of the vehicle, but also raises concerns about long-term body protection. Once the clear coat is compromised, the base paint and metal underneath are more susceptible to rust and corrosion. There are countless reports online of other gm vehicle owners experiencing similar issues, and I believe this should be investigated as a widespread manufacturing defect. I request that gm address this issue, either through a recall or a goodwill repair/paint reimbursement program. I was under this car inspecting the exhaust system when I noticed the steel rear impact beam was rusty. Upon further inspection, I found that it was completely rusted and rotted out and was being held up by the wire for the license plate light. The car has quite a few miles on in but no other parts of the car are rusted like this. An automotive engineer inspected it and advised us to replace it. There is no way for customers to know of this issue or easily watch out for it and I am concerned that this may be an issue in other Malibus. This is a huge safety issue as there was no rear protection during a crash due to the severity of the rust on this rear impact beam.

My 2015 Chevrolet Malibu doesn’t have a key hole to lock it manually so I can’t close my trunk of my car. The latch assembly isn’t working properly so when I push the button it doesn’t lock. So I’m complaining about not having a key to lock the trunk of my vehicle.

On March 18, 2024, I noticed that water began to enter the car when it was in the carwash. I opened a claim with the insurance company and an investigation was carried out that lasted approximately 3 months. On June 11, the body shop received my car to diagnose and provide a quote to the insurance company for the necessary repairs due to this water damage. The workshop considered it to be a problem in the upper rear brake light and mentioned that this is a Chevrolet recall on these cars. The insurance company called me and told me that I had to go directly to the dealer to have the necessary repairs made to my car that were caused by this water problem. However, I cannot find information about this recall online.

Water was leaking through the center high mount stop lamp and pooling into the spare tire well. Water was also soaking through the rear headliner. Condensation was building up inside the vehicle due to the pooled water and water soaked headliner. Condensation buildup inside the vehicle with numerous electrical components is not safe. The vehicle has been taken to the galleria Chevrolet dealership in dallas, texas for repairs. Galleria Chevrolet failed to repair the issue even after giving them notice of the service bulletin n192210570 center high mount stop lamp water leak.

Water has been leaking into my car from the roof and onto my seats. Today I discovered that I have black mold under my headliner. So water is somehow leaking through and had been for some time.

When I’m driving straight sometimes my lane assist will make the car swerve while my steering wheel is straight and even almost made me wreck into another car beside me trying to force the car to go right. Also the front crash assist goes off when I’m not even near a car. The front end of my car is rattling and I don’t know why.

I own a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu (VIN: [xxx] , black, approx. 56,310 miles). The paint and clearcoat are failing prematurely, with peeling, cracking, and delamination appearing on the hood and roof panels. A repair estimate confirmed the need for full refinishing and corrosion protection to restore the exterior condition 2016 Chevrolet Malibu . This is not normal wear. The defect stems from faulty paint materials, defective clearcoat, or improper factory application. Although it manifests over time, gm knew or should have known of these issues but sold the Malibu without disclosure and refuses to provide assistance. This vehicle was purchased on February 10, 2023 under false pretenses, deceit, and fraudulent activities by frank leta Honda of missouri. Frank leta Honda and its salesman failed to disclosed that this vehicle was in a major accident prior to me purchasing it. The front-end bumper and the front quarter-panel on the passenger side were damaged. This car was re-painted with non-factory paint, and it shows. Most importantly, the procedure and process required in painting a vehicle was not followed. I even questioned the salesman whether or not this vehicle was in a major accident, and the salesman said, "no. " I had taken this vehicle to two professional auto body businesses, and two owners/auto body workers informed me without me asking that the vehicle had been in a major accident. Can you please give me a report on whether or not the previous owners of this vehicle reported an accident with this vehicle being involved in, and the original color of this vehicle. The dealer is calling it red. However, this vehicle is a deep dark burgundy.

I have bought multiple chevy Malibu manufactured in the 2008-2012 year range and I have experienced the same problems on all of them. The first one is almost everytime I remotely start the car and begin to drive the electric power steering feature goes out until I park the car and restart it. Another problem I’ve been experiencing is the the passenger door malfunctions and does not open from the inside or outside even though the locking system is working properly. Upon looking online I have also seen there’s been a good amount of people reporting the same problem.

I was traveling home on jtb near hodges coming from jax beach way at about 4:45-4:50pm today. In the far left lane. When I saw a vehicle in front of me swerve and then I saw a roll of carpet but it was to late for me to move over so I ran over it and it damaged my front end.

The contact owns a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20v764000 (suspension) however, the dealer informed the contact that the part for the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact also stated she was informed at the state inspection that the rocker panel of the vehicle was corroded, and the corrosion was originating from inside of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to contact the dealer to schedule an appointment for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Gov vehicle was traveling north on the baltimore washington parkway near interstate 695. The steering and brakes failed, and the driver moved the vehicle safely to the shoulder and exited the vehicle. The vehicle began to smoke and caught fire. The traction control , steering, brake and abs warning lamps appeared.

The 3rd brake light broke(high mount stop lamp) which caused water leakage into the trunk and filled the compartment where the spare tire goes.

Driving through a sandstorm at 45mph( slow lane and speed sure to visibility) on interstate 10 from rancho mirage to desert hot springs, California, the vehicle windshield cracked nearly a foot. I was charged $400 by enterprise rentals since this was a rental vehicle. A small chip could be seen, size of a ball point pen tip, at beginning of crack. Enterprise has the photos and this was repaired by caliber auto glass in tustin, CA. Rental vehicle unit # 7t1dm2. 2021 chevy Malibu with 5,360 miles on odometer at the time. I noticed a wet spot by the 3 break light inside headliner.

The third brake light cracked in three places and now water is in the car and trunk. I saw special coverage for the car just for this issue but the dealership states it isnt covered for my VIN. . Also, there is a popping noise under the car when I take off, turn curves, get out of the car etc. Seems to be bushings wearing out and is a well known problem. Again, my car is not covered.

My rear driver's side door would not stay closed and opened while driving. I finally got it to stay shut but now it will not open. Outside handle pulls easily but the inside handle does not.

My teenage son was driving in the rain when his Malibu gave engine power reduced, service traction, service esc, and esc off warnings. Car was barely drivable. This is a safety issue since it happens suddenly and increase the chances of a collision with other vehicles. Code reader showed the p2138 dtc. The headliner above the driver side door was also wet. This appears to be coming from the sun roof. I believe that this leakage is causing electrical connection issues somewhere else in the car that is causing the above mentioned warnings and performance issues. According the the chevy website, there are no recalls applicable to this car based on its VIN.

On the both back side, where the seat belts are next to small windowand top part of roof waterbis leaking in when I wash my car and maybe even when it rains. There probably mildew, and rust. Also when I park my car the warning light says put car in park, but its in park.

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated while working on the vehicle it was noticed that the fuel tank strap rusted and detached from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 123,709.

After turning on my heater and driving the car 10 minutes the car caught fire. I smelled something burning when I parked and got out of the vehicle, but thought it was coming from outside the vehicle. I came back to my car 2 hours later and the fire department had been out and the front end of my car was completely charred.

I first noticed the problem on my 2016 Malibu LS when going through a car wash. I'm not sure when exactly the issue happened, but according to the body shop it appears to be faulty designing. The water and chemicals were leaking at the rear window. Heavy rains would also result in the car leaking non-stop. I took the car in and the found that the third brake light was not secured fully and water was spilling through there. Apparently it was lose to the point where it didn't take much to take the light out. I was informed that this was a known problem for other years but my car wasn't included in the recall. If the problem existed with my car I'm sure others are having the same problem. Water was also getting into the trunk and now I have a huge mold/mildew problem. Additionally, they first thought the leak was coming from the side panel windows as the adhesive to put those windows in was faulty.

I always notice a smell and foggy windows after rainy days on my stationary vehicle but though little of it we just got hit by hurricane laura with no damage to vehicle but light scratching as I was going to take my family out of town while power restoration efforts started I opened my truck (as I rarely use it)to find my spare tire compartment completely covered in water and mold growing in the interior I called my insurance about it but it is not coverd un insurance and was told to look for recalls as this vehicle has many issues with this problem a pressure test revealed water is coming in from no all components of spare tire are rusted or have mold growing on them and all truck interior is full of mold growty.

My traction light comes on and stops my whole car and drive extremely slow and my whole just messed up and I need it fixed ASAP I can't even get to work without my car messing up.

I was going to work , when I arrived at work my driver front door was stuck shut it would not open from inside or outside . I had to crawl over console to get out of car thru passenger side, and now I have to get in it to drive it from passenger side.

Every time it rains or I wash the car, water leaks into my trunk. I've been told it was due to the antenna seal and I have heard this was a common problem with these cars, but I havent seen anywhere that there has been a recall.

Water leaking and running into spare tire compartment in truck. Due to no recall alert and dealership won't do anything, now my dome light shorts out and water stain on ceiling liner by rear window.

Trunk is leaking and mildew smell all in the car. Wet on both sides of trunk and holds water. Gm has been aware of this issue for several years with no recalls issued and they will not cover the cost of repairs.
