I was driving on the freeway when I was forced to go over a cardboard box that happened to be on my lane. I felt it hit the underside of my car. A few minutes later, I smelled smoke and I was also alerted by surrounding drivers to pull over. I immediately pulled over and ran out of the vehicle to about 100ft away. I could see flames in the front of the car. By the time I reached out to emergency services and they got to the location, the car was completely on fire.

There is some issue with my drivers door. I go to lock it when I get out and it unlocks itself and its only the drivers door that does it. My car was parked and not in motion. I started my car up to go home after work and when I shifted my car into gear the drivers door did not lock. I had to do it manually. On top of that happening my dome light is set to turn on and off when a door is open. All of my doors are closed completely and the dome light is still on.

Third rear brake light leaks/allows water into inside of car and frame cracks on both sides. Water leaks into headliner and trunk and stains interior. Car smiles humid. Happens very time it rains and wash car. This is the second time this has happened. First time parts were replaced, second parts still have the same problem and issue still occurs. Poor quality parts.

Front passenger side door won't open. The door will not open using either the interior or exterior door handles. This has happened before and I can usually get it working by opening the door window and manually locking and unlocking the door while simultaneously pulling and releasing the exterior door handle. Somehow this reestablishes the electrical connection and it will open. It is a safety hazard.

Had heavy rain and I woked up to rear side car seats wet and carpet soaked and wet the car smelled really bad after some days . I had to take out the rugs out my car . My car is so humid inside I seen mold growing on my carpet ! my car windows also have so much condensation in the inside it drips . Come to find out water is coming from the 3brake light !!!!!! this needs a recall too many people having the same issue with these cars !!!!!.
Power steering goes out at random moments it could be 1 mile of driving this vehicle or 1000 miles of driving this vehicle so it's very difficult to know when or if this car needs to be taken to the shop and I'm sure if there is a survey these vehicle have more owners due to the fact that this defect is so difficult to detect and they are sold off when detected. But this is extremely dangerous if the power steering suddenly gets extremely hard driving (cuts off) at high speeds. Someone could crash and get seriously injured or potentially die. This should be considered a safty recall not an extended warranty and should be reopened because more people would go get thier car fixed if you tell them thier safety is at stake. And also the doors get locked shutt rendering passengers or drivers locked and unable to escape if danger is immanent.

I opened my trunk under the spare tire and there was water filled in the trunk. I did my research and I found plenty of Malibu's with the same problem.

The trunk of the car is filled with water that has been dripping out all day. The rear roof of the car is soaked on both sides. The car smells musty & all of the inside windows had so much condensation it was dripping.
Had a car accident on September 17, 2019 my car stalled while making left turn had this problem since I purchased this car also my tires continued to go on flat.
I have noticed a funky smell on several occasions since I bought the car in August 2017. The smell would go away so I never looked into it. After a bad rain storm, the interior smelled again. I went into the trunk a day later and the tire well cover was wet. I found water under the cover and saw that it ran in from under the driver side rear window area. I also found water trails down the rear window side plastic casing inside the car. I researched and found many many complaints from 2016 thru 2019 vehicles about the 3rd break light leaking due to loose screws. Sounds to this is a huge issue that needs to be addressed by gm. A simple fix of tightening the screws or using lock type screws. Why do I have to pay for diagnostics and repair for something gm is not doing.
Takata recall. . . The undercarriage fell down unexpectedly while driving. The most important thing is that I have been continually getting an error that my engine reduced/engine disabled and it shuts off while I'm driving on the street. I may get a few seconds of motion to get to the side of the road before it stops completely. It's happened with my child in the car and that scares me more to think it may happen again. It has happened 3 time in the past 5 weeks. I've had a tune up and a number of things replaced in the past 12 months. My engine light came on again and one of the same sensors on the engine had to be replaced again.

The top of the rear window near the third break light starting leaking. I reviewed online Chevrolet forums with common complaints and read the defect could be related to recent recalls with the vehicle. Also, the leak is cause damage to my vehicles interior panels.
Engine light is on. Involved in a collision.
Vehicle was parked on an inclined driveway. The car was rained on for 2 constitutive days. The 3rd brake light assembly just above the rear leaked into the roof of the care and the trunk. The leak was extremely fast and caused a pool about 1/2 an inch deep to build up in the spare tire storage compartment of the trunk. The leak caused damage to the roof panel on the interior of the car with significant water marks, and completely soaked the trunk as mentioned before with the pool of water. The car was purchase new and has never been involved in any motor vehicle accident or collision of any type. The technician that repaired the leak showed the leak was caused by a loose nut on the 3rd brake light assembly just above the rear window. I have attached the invoice from the repair shop that fixed the leak. The manufacturer refused to service or investigate the source of the leak because the vehicle was out of warranty due to mileage. The care was stationary and parked under a rainstorm when the damages were noticed. As far as I can tell there is no electrical damage however the proximity to the 3rd brake light warrants the report of electrical damage. Body damage is due to water damage to the floor mats of the trunk, headrest in the passenger area of the car, and water damage to the roof of the vehicle. The damage was found on Saturday July 6th, 2019. The repairs were performed on Tuesday July 9th, 2019.
Everytime it rains the inside of my trunk is soaked and smells like mildew. Not to mention when I lifted my spare tire out from the trunk there was several inches of water just sitting in there. While driving in a thunderstorm I noticed there was water leaking inside near the back windows and I noticed the headliner is badly water stained. Spoke to my extended warranty coverage and they don't cover water damage! well I wouldn't have water damage if I had a decent made car that doesn't leak when it rains! I have small children that sit in the back seat and have to get rained on. Guess I will have to give them umbrellas while riding in the car. It's very unsafe for my children to be breathing/inhaling the mold that is in the trunk with their asthma/mold related allergies.
Driver side front door failed to open back in August 2015, front passenger side door will now not open as of 5/30/19. So as of right now, neither front door will open. Pulled into a parking garage and tried exiting thru the passenger side ( like I have the last 3+ years) and door would not open. Had to climb out thru the backseat.
The doors on my 2009 chevy Malibu do not open no matter what I do with the locks this is a safety issue if I was in an accident I would not be able to get out of the vehicle the problem has gone on and off for the last year and sometimes they won't work and sometimes they will work. I have seen many complaints about this issue and think it should be addressed as a serious safety issue.
My vehicle leaks water at the top of the back windshield. The water runs down the metal body into the spare tire well in the trunk. When I discovered it, there was 10 inches of water in the spare tire well. The body wall is rusting at the top, weakening the body wall and jeopardizing the integrity and safety of the vehicle. There are widespread complaints on the internet about this problem.
I tried to open my drivers side door and it would not open randomly looked it up online and apparently alot of other people were having this problem with no way to fix because they could not get to the problem with the door stuck shut, with no solution should be covered by Chevrolet in a recall.
I was in a traffic accident and was bit on the driver side. The impact pushed in the doors and the side curtain airbags did not deploy. I was traveling approx 30 mph and the car ran a stop sign on a city street.
My whole trunk and back of car has water coming into it. I recently took it to the dealer ship and they wanted to charge me $400 to replace back light because supposedly that's were the water is coming in through. I saw on google more then 40 reviews on that exact same problem with the 2016 Malibu's.
Water poured into the back seat and onto my son. Took car to dealership where diagnosed that third center brake light is not sealed and leaking water. Same issue as all other 9th gen Malibus (2016+ model years). Did not notice leak until 43,000 miles, out of warranty. Who knows how long it has been there! many parts ruined and potentially moldy from water damage. Gm customer care said the repair is $4300 of which they want me to pay $1900 despite this being a design or production flaw.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that water leaked into the passenger rear lights compartment. No warning lights illuminated. The dealer and manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000. Nd.

While pulling into a parking space in our 2013 chevy Malibu with my foot on the brake, when about 1/2 way into the space I experienced an unintended acceleration by the vehicle. This caused me to crash into a bollard in front of the convenience store causing severe damage to the front end of the car. The air bags did not deploy, causing me to hit my head on the steering wheel.

The plastic trim on drivers seat which has the controls on it to operate and hold the seat up on the side cracked and controls were not accessible and part was no longer holding up the seat. Purchased car March 28,2015. On October 26,2017 I paid for the part and labor since I was told it was not under warranty. It's now April 9th, 2019 and the part is pulling away from the seat again. I was told the warranty for the last repair expired on October 26, 2018. My option was to pay for the part and repair again. The plastic trim should be considered defective since it holds the seat up and the buttons that access the seat controls are on it. The part and labor charges should be covered by the manufacturer for this defective part.

Noticed musty smell in car. Opened trunk to find interior wet. Lifted floor of trunk out and found spare wheel well overflowing with water. This has been an ongoing issue. Discovery made while vehicle was stationary. Photos taken after shopvacuuming out as much water as possible and letting trunk air dry. Water damage visible on porous surfaces. Unsure if water due to faulty trunk door seal (water drips from seal when trunk door is opened) or if water is coming in elsewhere.
My 2008 chevy Malibu has door latch issues. When you close the doors, the latch will not connect and the door will fly back open. We need to keep playing with the locks for the door to eventually latch and lock. Then it also sometimes does it from the inside and you cannot open the door from the inside or the outside and you will need to keep playing with it. One day, I had to role the window down to try to open the door from the outside because it wouldn't open from this inside. This is an extreme safety hazard because in the event something catastrophic happens and the door does not open or close they way its supposed to, it can be life threatening. Expecially since I have a small son. This needs to be addressed and fast!.
Takata recall it constantly shakes and my car is constantly pulling and random codes pop up all the time . Not to mention it's a 2012 and it's rusting majorly. I am driving when my car seems to be missing a beat it wants to jerk on me like it wants to stop running. I was on a city street it happens a lot .
Car was parked in a residential parking lot. A water leak began. Water was on the floor of the driver's side and on the floor on the passenger's side behind the driver. I took the car to an auto mechanic and I were told the leak was caused by a manufacturer's defect and the water had been slowly leaking into the car since I first had it. The water leaks in behind the dashboard and then accumulates between the body frame and the carpeting. He said the defect was a missing seal in the car body frame. I was told the defect can't be repaired because the frame is welded together and the area to put the seal in is impossible to access. He put another top coat seam in the cowl area, but stated due to the faulty body seam they cannot guarantee permanent water tight repair. The car was dried out for a week in the auto shop. Then the car was returned and the next morning the floor on the driver's side had a water leak again. The auto mechanic said that I should not keep this car.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle trunk was flooded with rain water. The vehicle was taken to Chevrolet of montebello dealer, located at 310 w whittier blvd, montebello, CA 90640, (323) 680-5933, where it was diagnosed the leak was coming in from the third brake light rear windshield there and needed to be repaired. The was vehicle in the process of repairing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opens a case number: 95058953731. The approximate failure mileage was 37,100. Aw.
Traveling east turning left going 17 mph, struck by a van going the speed limit which is 50 head on, driver airbag deployed, passenger airbag did not. Passenger is 54 and 120 lbs.
Front right passenger door hits the back right passenger door causing damage to the back passenger door exterior moldings. Front defroster does not work when put on, blows alot out of front vents instead.
Not a safety issue. I'm trying to find out where to file complaints about manufacturing issues to start a recall. My Malibu didn't start one after work towed it to mechanic. He said it didn't have oil pressure. He opened up the engine and found pieces of o rings/rtv sealant blocking flow and busted rods, lifters, and loose bearings obviously. I have never had any one open that engine. I feel this is a manufacturing defect. Car only has 90,000 miles. A/c compressor went out at 40,000 miles, rear defrost out rear fuse box corroded and burned wires had to be replaced, wheel bearings out in the front at 50,000 miles. This shouldn't happen with a newer car. Dealer no help out of warranty.
