9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/05/2013

I had my 2011 Malibu serviced at marty feldman Chevrolet for rotors, brake pads and all fluids changed because of mileage in July 2013. In November 2013, I began hearing the same noises that lead me to have my rotors replaced on the driver's front side. I went to serra Chevrolet who stated I need rotors and brake pads. I explained I had just had that work done. After proving with my paperwork that I had the work done, serra Chevrolet stated they could replace the rotors and brake pads because the parts were still under warranty. Marty feldman Chevrolet sales manager stated I could bring it back there; however, due to convenience I allowed serra Chevrolet complete the repair work. A week later my engine light came on. I took the car back seven times before they were able to correct the problem. In the meantime; in February the noise from the rotors returned. Because I had to drive over 40+ miles back and forth (seven times) to have the engine light repaired; I was told my rotors were not under warranty. After contacting gm consumer complaint and not settling for a no answer; serra Chevrolet stated they gave me new rotors and brake pads. However, in April, the noise returned and no-one is willing to address my problem or concern. I had my attorney prepare an official letter to send to serra and marty feldman Chevrolet. No comments as of yet. I am pursuing other means to get the problem before the public and to gm headquarters. I pay my car note each month and I have had car problems since July 2013.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

On sept. 30th 2013 we had our 2003 chevy Malibu worked on at just brakes on 75 in dallas. They recommended a long list of items costing around $900 in repairs. We decided to only have the rear bakes done at this time. On Jan 16 of this year we took the car to another automotive repair shop to have the oil changed and front brakes fixed. Our local mechanic stated the rears were improperly done and were not working at all. The pads were installed backwards and the springs not attached. We took the car back to just brakes in richardson so they could properly fix and redo the work we had paid for. The manager bobby was extremely rude, hostile and argumentative. He basically denied there was any problem and told us to leave. Here are a few things he said to us when we tried to explain the situation. How do you know they don't work?. We had tested the parking brake and it wouldn't hold the car at all. He said, the e-brake isn't designed to do that. How did you get the car here if your brakes don't work? I am not going to guarantee anything. I am not going to refund any of your money. Why don't you just fix them yourself? are you going to keep arguing with me? you should just take the car somewhere else. Tired of his condescending belligerent and insulting attitude, we instead went to their lemon Ave location downtown. They were very helpful and immediately fixed the brakes quickly and courteously. This is a serious problem as we had been driving an unsafe vehicle with only the front brakes working for over 3 months. It also cost us less then half of what just brakes wanted to repair the front end at our local mechanic. Bobby originally stated additional problems were needed to be addressed that turned out were actually non-existent and fraudulent overcharges.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

Purchased car from ed bozarth on October 12. Within 1 week the brakes were grinding and you had to step on it hard for it to brake. Have changed brake pads and rotors twice within 3 years. Have complained to ed bozarth since I purchased it. I have taken the car to other gm dealerships and complained about the brakes. September 2015 took it to fletcher jones Chevrolet and had filed a complain with gm for approval to have them pay for the diagnostics. And again, the dealership and gm claim nothing is wrong with the brakes, but they grind horribly and you have to hit hard on the brakes to be able to brake. Another issue is the rubber steering wheel. It is coming apart and it cuts you as you are making right turn. Being diabetic it is a health issue.

14 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Beginning in 2010 I had to replace the brakes on my car multiple times. To date I have replaced break pads, drums, and lines 5 different times. My breaks seem to wear easily and frequently screech. Beginning in 2013 after filling my car with gas my "low fuel" indicator dings and my fuel gauge shows empty. This happens every time I fill my car with gas. I have received a recall notice regarding power steering. On two separate occasions I have experienced my power steering going out and I am forced to pull over and turn off my car and turn it back on for the car to work properly. I have contacted gm regarding the recall notice and I have been advised that no parts are available and they will not provide me with a rental vehicle and expect me to continue to drive the vehicle "until the parts are available". They will not provide me with a timeline and have been unresponsive to my other complaints regarding the vehicle.

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

When the car was new, it shook when the brakes were applied. The car was taken to the dealer and they corrected the problem by smoothing the brake pads. A few months ago, the car began to shake when the brakes were applied at speeds above 35 mph. This problem has gradually become worse and the car now shakes excessively when the brakes are applied at speeds at or above 55 mph, making driving in anything but a straight line impossible. Stopping distance has also substantially increased. I no longer consider the car safe for use at speeds above 55 mph.

19 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 06/10/2008

Have owned the vehicle for 14 months and I am getting ready to replace the rotors and brake pads for the third time. After only a few months, you can feel the brakes pulsing, worse at soft braking than hard. I've also had the rotors turned and put back on once and the problem returned in less than a month.

20 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/10/2007

We had the brakes serviced . It included the changing over the brake pads and the rotors turned. And in less than 8months later we went bake to get the brakes inspected due to a very high pitched noised that grew since the brakes we replaced with new ones. The mechanic informed us that the back brakes verses the front brakes we not wearing equally and that he was shocked to discover that both front and back brakes were replaced at the same time. I know for a fact that they were replaced as I sat and watched the previous mechanic install our new brake pads/shoes just after 7 months of buying the vehicle. The front brakes had a wearing of 30% and the rear wore down to 70%. This is becoming a nightmare and it's also becoming very expensive. . I just want to know how it is possible to need new brakes on average of half a year between changes. This if not looked into could become extremely dangerous and is dangerous if the back brakes a wearing out faster than the front. Then I have to change the brakes out every 6-7-months just to know that I will be able to stop the car when needed! the horrible screeching sound I discovered is the rotors and the mechanic very shocked to see that they are warped and in such bad shape after such a small amount of time between the brake changes within a 6-7 month time period. We have only one working vehicle and feel that is issue is to be addressed as it is a huge safety concern. I can not keep changing the brake system every 6-7months yet I have no choice if we are to be safe and would like to stop the car. Please find out if the problem can be corrected once and for all to where we only have to change the brakes on the car longer than a year or more especially when we drive the car easy. . . We are not bad drivers yet we are terrified that we will not be able to stop at any given moment as I am sure we will need a brake change again in just a few months again! battery in the keypad opens, locks & starts car never works right. . .

21 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/10/2007

I have owned my Malibu since it was new in 1997. In its lifetime it has had 4 or 5 sets of rotors and at least 7 sets of brake pads. It is now ready for a new set of rotors and brakes. The last time these were replaced on the car was 2 years ago. Gm knew about the brake problem from day one. The 1997 and 1998 models have had numerous brake problems with them. They don't do anything about it because no one has gotten killed from the problem. Do I have to die in a wreck before someone listens?? 2 years ago when I had it fixed I thought that would be the last time, but no, the brakes and rotors still don't fit my car right or they wouldn't wear like they do. Gm need to fix the problem on my car. They seem to have corrected the problem on the 2000 models just fine.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 09/07/2007

Brake pads worn out (all 4) after only 17,000 miles, rotors warped. Chevrolet warranty will not cover this even though it was low mileage (less than 2 years old of vehicle). Continue to work with local dealer for repair work.

23 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/16/2007

The brakes shudder and shake the car until you think it is going to come apart as you apply them at any speed. This car used to belong to my brother and a salesman drove it and was scared to death the whole time. It has about 90,000 on it now and he gave it to me to try to find out what to do about it. He is a multi-millionaire and doesn't have time to monkey with this stuff. He just buys more cars if he needs them. He has spent money to try to fix the issue with repair shops, rotors, brake pads, you name it. He even has a speed shop that he holds world records producing fast things and has a great staff than can fix anything on earth. But that is not his real business. He wouldn't spend anymore time or have anyone else try to fix it anymore until the factory owns up to what is going on with it. I was going to let my daughter drive it but with a new baby I can't allow that. It is extremely scary to drive and I have since found out that this was a well known problem. He really didn't know it was this bad.

24 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 05/20/2007

Problems with the brakes, I have to replace the brake pads every 2-3 months and have the rotors turned as well for there is a vibration in the steering column and front end if not turned. I was told my dealership that the rotors are no good for the car and that gm is aware of the problem but refuses to correct it.

25 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

2000 Chevrolet Malibu developed problems with the brakes. The brake have had to be replaced three times, 24666, 37158 and 49592 miles. The first time the manufacturer fixed them under warranty. The other times they claimed it was normal wear and tear. The last time the brakes failed the front disc pads had worn into the rotors.

26 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Brakes (rotors and front pads) keep needing to be replace. First at 14,000 miles and then again at 28,000 miles. The first time they were replaced under the 36,000 mile warranty, but the second time the dealer refused to do it under the warranty and wanted $500 for job. Dealer first said the rear brakes were not adjusted but wouldn't blame the self adjusters that should keep them adjusted. Then they said that it was my driving habits, refusing to refer to all the other complaints about Malibu's brakes and the fact that none of my other cars have ever had brakes were out so soon. Now they say it is "normal" for Malibu brakes to wear out after 14,000 miles and again they won't cover them under warranty. Brakes do not wear out after 14,000 miles.

27 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

In July of 2005 I was involved in a accident due to the fact I was unable to stop this vehicle. I did not realize at the time that I had the ability to file a complaint to a federal safety organization. This vehicle has now had 5 brake jobs, the last being today. The front rotors had to be repaired because the vehicle was difficult to stop and had severe vibration during braking. The mileage on this vehicle is 101000 miles. At the last brake overhaul it was noted that the rear brakes were not working, ( the vehicle was delivered to me this way new) this problem was reported as repaired. I purchased this vehicle new from gamblin motors in Apr 1999 and as I have stated 5 brake repairs in 101000 miles. In July 2005 the reason I rear ended a vehicle was I was unable to stop due to poor braking action. This vehicle has had 3 sets of front rotors and brake pads and the rotors have been turned (trued on 2 separate occasions). I have filed complaints with gm about this problem and it has been disregarded. This may be because the original complaint was because of coolant system leaks that caused damage to the engine.

28 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 07/06/2005

Vehicle safety issue: 2003 chevy Malibu has been into the dealer three (3) times for brake repairs. First complaint I was told brakes needed to "wear in", car one (1) week old. Second complaint, soft and pulsating pedal with poor stopping, rotors were "refinished", vehicle mileage 6,800. Third complaint, vehicle uncontrollable when stopping at highway speeds, dealer advised that rotors have "excessive run-out" and inner pads are "low". Cost to repair three hundred and fifty dollars ($350. 00), vehicle mileage 30,000. Dealer and general motors refuse to admit the brake wear is caused by a safety defect in the braking system. No repairs have been made and vehicle was released from the dealer and is now unsafe to operate due to uncontrollable steering while brakes are applied.

29 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 04/01/2005

While driving between 30-35 mph a metal to metal noise occurred upon depression of the brake pedal. Vehicle was driven to a mechanic, who indicated that the front driver brake pad broke in half.

30 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/16/2005

The brake pulsate and grind. I have had this problem for 2 yrs now. I have had the braking system completly replaced. Brake pads, rotors, calipers, master cylinder, brake fuel lines, you name it and it has been done. I replaced the brakes with gm parts. I need new brakes again. My car could not stop in time to prevent an accident. It is awful. When the calipers were installed they make clicking sounds I was told this was ok. Also, if I apply the brakes when going over bumps in the road the abs goes off.

31 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/10/2005

A loud popping noise came from the front and rear. Consumer drove to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the left and right brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced due to warping.

32 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 01/02/2005

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. At present time, I have had to have the steering column replaced twice, due to intermittent power steering failure and a constant pull to the left. The first time was at approximately 8800 miles, the second time at 17700 miles. I have also had to have the brake rotors and pads replaced twice. The brakes still make a rubbing noise in the right front, however the dealers tells me they cannot fix that. The car currently has 18000 miles on it. I still have steering issues, such as twitches in the steering wheel and thunks and clunks when driving. I am very uncomfortable driving the car because I am afraid the steering will go out again.

33 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 12/17/2004

My 2002 chevy Malibu (3 yrs old, just our of factory warranty) with 33,000 miles had the front left brake seize up. I limped it to the dealer, half a mile away from my house. By the time I got there, the front left brakes were smoking. I was told that the caliper seized up because the pads were too worn. Also that the pads on the left were worn also. The chevy dealer said I needed to have rotors turned on both wheels, calipers replaced on both wheels, and new pads & caliper bolts. Total cost $784 not covered by the extended warranty that I paid $1250 for when I bought the car. The wear indicators gave very little warning that the brakes were warn. I had the brakes inspected a year ago (9000 miles ago) and was told they were fine. I can understand turning the rotors. I expect to pay for pads. But replacing the calipers on both wheels? did I just get taken for a ride by my chevy dealer? I have seen lots of reports about premature brake wear on Malibu. What are my options? I have already paid for the repair.

34 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 11/03/2004

I have not had any accidents or injuries but I have had to replace the brake pads and rotors twice since purchasing the vehicle 6/18/03. I was told the first time which was in January of this year that I had to have my brake pads and rotors replaced that it was because my brake pads were sticking and had worn completely away so they were replaced under warranty because it had occured before I had put 12000 miles on the car. The second time was in September and they had to replace the brake pads again, but after I took my car home I noticed that my car would shudder violently when braking so I took it back the first week of November and they had to repair/replace the rotors for the second time as well.

35 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Failure Date: 10/26/2004

I have put 3 sets of brake pads and rotors on my Malibu. I had the right front hub assembly changed twice. My cars brakes throw off alot of brake dust and must be pushed way down before stopping.
