Chevrolet Malibu owners have reported 50 problems related to brake sensor (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Malibu based on all problems reported for the Malibu.
Our car began showing an error message "shift to park" when the shifter was correctly in the ''park' position and you attempt to turn of the iginition. Essentially the car is not recognizing that it is in 'park' and as such would not turn off or lock correctly. This would happen repeatedly whenever we attempted to park the car. The dealer told us that this is a frequent problem and (if not corrected) would eventually lead to not being able to turn off the ignition as the sensor is telling the car that it is not parked. I think this is a very dangerous problem, and obviously well known by the manufacturer. This needs to be corrected so no one is injured in a roll-away type accident.

Coming home from florida to athens alabama we stopped at a rest stop and I noticed my brakes was really hard to push and made a awful noise. We looked at the brakes and thought the pads was bad. I managed to get it home luckily on major traffic jams on interstate 65. My husband put a code reader and it said brake booster sensor but my husband pulled the line from the vacuum pump and the vacuum pump wasn't pulling. Thank god we made it home. From what I've read on this website a recall should be done. Car is now parked in garage what til chevy dealership opens on Monday!!!.
During the cold the car will not turn on, will show a stabilitrak problem and the transmission light turns on. When it is on and you drive it, it will automatically turn off and stay off at a red light or whenever you press the brake. I have two other friends who own the same car and it does the same , which makes me assume a manufacturer problem of cars not turning on in the cold/ sensor issue.
The vehicles brakes keeps popping where it makes it very hard to stop. Also the car is dying when the car does come to a stop so that you have to put it in park and start it again. The back glass is leaking. Check engine light is on and shows it being the turbo but have had it in the dealership and the continued to say it is this sensor or that sensor or a sensor is dirty but never fixed the problem. The antenna was replaced to fix the back glass from leaking. Now that the vehicle is out of warranty it comes that the problem is the most expensive issues that never was seen before on the car. I have bought several of new vehicles and the is by far the worst car. I have bought my family a death trap waiting to happen.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, attempted to brake the vehicle did not stop. No warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an unknown indepedent mechanic, they determined that the brake booster pressure sensor failed and needed replacement. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,114. Bp.

After filling up with gas, brakes started making a loud noise and seemed like they were slipping. The first time was on Monday, October 21. There were no check engine light came on. After 20 minutes of driving the sound stopped and brakes seemed fine. Again on October 28th, the exact thing happened after getting gas. The check engine light came on briefly and went off. After 30 minutes of driving the issue stopped. The same thing happened on October 29th after getting gas. The check engine light came on and has stayed on. The brakes made the same loud noise and slipping for about 15 minutes, then were fine. I stopped at o'reilly's to get the check engine light code. It said "break booster pressure sensor" error. Mileage 134,000 when first happened, currently 134,511 miles. Unfortunately this isn't the first issue I've had with this car. Purchased January 29, 2016, gasket leaked water in cabin 6/16@37k, vehicle stalling multiple times 7/16-10/16@45k-60k no issue found, mass air flow sensor replaced 11/16@70k, stalling again in traffic 12/16@70k no issue found, engine power reduced 1/17@71k no issue found, engine power reduced 1/17@72k accelerator sensor replaced, stalling again multiple times 2/17-9/17@75k no issues found, shift to park message when in park 11/17-2/18@80k entire gear shift replaced. Continued to have intermittent stalling/sluggish issues. Service stabilitrack error with engine shutdown after autostop 11/18-12/18@98k diagnosed as battery in trunk (no battery actually in the trunk) issue continued to 1/19, battery replaced 1/19 by another dealership. Extended warranty ended 2/19 due to mileage. Check engine light only came on for 3 of the issues listed above. Car was taken to 2 authorized Chevrolet dealerships for all issues except current braking issue.
When my 2013 chevy Malibu is in motion and someone is in the passenger seat (many but not all times) all of the electronics, including the electronic speedometer, and all dashboard gauges, in the car stop working and notifications about the airbag system and braking system appear. The mechanical aspects of the car still seem to work fine, but the notifications about the airbags and braking make me concerned that it is not safe. This has been happening for a year. I have tried taking my vehicle to the dealership multiple times and have been told they either cannot replicate it or they will "fix" something that doesn't end up solving the problem. Given that this problem started randomly and not with any intervention on my part of the part of any mechanic, I am contacting NHTSA because I am concerned that this problem is related to the airbag sensor in the passenger seat and that this might be happening with other people and could represent real danger if this really is affecting the airbag and braking systems (even when the passenger seat is not in use).

I have a Malibu that has issues with the brake lamps. The lamps may either illuminate with out the brake pedal applies or turn off when the break pedal is applied. There a recall for this issue #16188. This recall replaces break apply sensor and the bpps harness and connector repair. But in the bulletin it states that the issue is cause by the bcm voltage surges. To me the recall should include the bcm. The recall repairs that damaged cause by the bcm. Why is the bcm not included in the recall. I have had the recall completed and have had the same brake issue 4 additional times. I currently have my car in a gm dealer right now and I am now told that I should replace the bcm. When I dropped the car off this morning, I left all my service records so I do no have the exact dates for repair. This is a very serious safety issue.

On 1/2/2019 I was driving in my car and two warning messages suddenly popped up on my console warning about the stability control and abs systems. There is a sensor that reads a "speed ring" on the rear of the wheel hubs. It seems chevy cars are known to have this ring crack and sections break off. When this happens the sensor can no longer read it and your stability control and abs systems will immediately stop working. The only way to resolve this problem is to replace the entire hub. Not only is this a serious safety issue but a considerable design flaw. You should only ever have to replace a hub if the bearing wear out because it is a very expensive repair. The other rear hub on my car is showing cracks in this ring and will need to be replaced as well. Chevy is fully aware of this issue. I tried to contact chevy about this on Jan 5 and got a call from them Jan 14 from a very rude and condescending person who was more concerned that I didnt pay chevy to repair the problem instead of the seriousness of the safety issue. Chevy needs to cover the cost of these repairs for me and everyone affected and needs to do a recall.

Since buying this vehicle, I've had trouble with the brakes, airbag sensors, electrical problems, seatbelt issues and also the airbag light, had a mechanic replace the airbag sensors in the rear, but the light still comes on. The brakes are now shuttering worse when I apply the brakes and it feels like the wheels are going to fall apart.
I'm having problem with brake pedal sensor - replaced twice already - while driving hit brakes error message service abs service traction cruise control want disengage also noticed that I could move the gear out of park with out pushing the brake pedal are there any recalls for these issues?.
Have lost all power steering, sensor is messed up, brakes are barely working, why wasn't a recall issued for all 2009 Malibus? this is beyond dangerous.
On Friday December 29, 2017 as we were driving home we almost re-ended another vehicle in a city street at the speed of 55 mph due to car brakes locking and hard to press down, luckily hard we were able fo brake by pushing hard enough. Also sensor have failed twice- three times in heavy traffic and will brake on their own without any car being directly in front of me which is scary and could cause a major accident on the highway. We contact GMC and filed a claim (83737025405) and also took it to the Chevrolet dealership in our hometown which is not doing much but charging us $1000+ for a change on a vacuum top and seal but don't understand that this is a safety issue for we have almost crashed over 4 times due to these issues.
The caliper arms on both of my passenger side tires have gotten stuck, wore down the new brake pads completely and destroyed the rotors of my car in the past. The dealership's warranty had covered the replacement of the pads, correction of arms and rotors previously but the second occurrence happened after my warranty had expired and was extremely expensive. When the rear passenger side got stuck the sensor for my tire pressure was showing but there was no hesitation or issue with breaking. A soft dragging sound lead me to believe the sensor itself had disconnected from the vehicle and was dragging on the ground and making a soft but strange noise. Its going to take me 2 weeks to get into the dealership for an appointment since then, my rear rotor has become effected and will need replacing. This morning the tire pressure monitor sensor remained on the screen but when I first started driving and attempted to use my breaks, I did not stop and my foot touched the ground as I pressed the pedal. As I pulled into the parking lot of my office (about 45 minutes of morning commute), more lights lit up the back panel including the emergency break light, the brake fluid, warning, service esc, followed by esc off scrolled across the dash and my breaks did not work at all when I attempted to slowly stop. I complained about the esc warning light coming on previously and stopping my power steering from working but the dealership said they couldn't recreate the warning so they couldn't help me.
Ince I have purchased this vehicle I have had issue after issue with trim, abs, stability track, heating system, transmission, and wheel bearings. I have had the stability track fixed twice, transmission was leaking (covered under a recall). Wheel bearings in rear both sides have been replaced before 80000 miles. Wiring harness to wheels, the dealer ship had to splice ( I still cant see how wiring harness is not a covered component. For a manufacture based out of a state that has snow, and to provide a vehicle that has a stability sensor that gets dirty because of salt that will error is beyond my comprehension. Same for the default wheel bearings one winter in michigan and they had to be replaced (also not a covered feature). Trim that blows off on the express way. I lost my window trim and the front black cover. Funny how the 2015 models have a screw in them but nothing for us poor 2014 owners that had an issue. I can purchase a new one at 60. 00 (really its plastic). Abs comes on every time I have an issue with the stability track, which is every winter it gets dirty. Engine light on now so I cant auto start the car, more than likely that will be caused by the glamorous aux battery that was engineered for the lovey auto stop feature that I have no control over. Have appointment with dealership to be ripped off some more. . . . Appt showed a p011 code, second time in shop to have it fixed. Update: months later, abs on the driverside hub is now out. Yes you guessed it the p011 engine code is back. (third time). Fixed twice at the shop. When is someone going to make gm wake up and fix these issues. It just like my key issue with my 2004 impala . Car stalls boggs down at 70 mph.
The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. While operating the vehicle, the abs and check engine sensor indicators illuminated and the "service stabilitrac" message displayed. In addition, while depressing the brake pedal to slow down, the vehicle would skid and slide before stopping, which caused the stopping distance to increase. The cause of the failures was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (rod hatfield Chevrolet in lexington, ky) were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 86,000.
The abs sensor is malfunctioning. This causes the vehicle to stall out and not go over 11 miles per hour. The dealer will not repair under $1000 and similar issue was recalled on the 2014 model.

The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. After driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the entire instrument panel illuminated and flashed intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contacted called an unknown dealer who stated that the bcm brake sensor module would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the part would be replaced. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.
Had camshaft sensor installed less than a year ago and engine came on with same sensor code. The electrical system is going out constantly and headlight bulb was repaired 4 times less than a year. Cost me over 600 total one service was done for free because it was repaired and blew the next day. So much work and barely drive to car to and from work only 2 miles. I plan to make a complaint to the attorney general for explanations if not solved or reimbursed. The vehicle stays in the shop more than use. Traction control sensor replaces and came back 2 weeks later. The vehicle also stalled with my children on a busy street where a vehicle almost struck the back side missing my daughter by inches. Unsafe vehicle and too many malfuctions.

The traction control sensor light keeps going on and off. I'm not even sure that it is working at all I have a recall notice on this issue but once again no one seems to have any parts to correct the issue.
We have received 3 separate recall notices from gm. (1 for electric steering, 1 for brake apply sensor and 1 for a shift cable fracture). However, gm will not fix any of the problems. They tell us to call the dealer. The dealer then tells us that gm will not supply the parts. Upon calling gm a third time, they will not reveal who is making these parts, where they are coming from, or have any idea when they will be available. They again instruct us to call the dealer. Each recall states that it is an "important safety recall" in accordance federal laws but yet nobody will fix any of the issues. The first recall notice came in 2012 for electric steering. We are still being told there are not parts to fix this. The brake apply sensor came in July 2014. The shift cable fracture also came in July 2014. (this indicates that the cable can snap while driving).

My car was involved in an accident where my friend applied the breaks and was forced into hydroplaning into a barrier, another vehicle and a person. My airbags did not deploy as the sensor was not hit nor did the onstar become alerted that the vehicle had been in an accident. After fighting with insurance companies, my car was totaled then declared not totaled, and repaired. I received the notice of a recall much later after the car was in the accident.
