My wife had turned on the seat heater. After a period of time she felt the back of the seat getting very hot and then smelled something burning and saw smoke inside the car. . She leaned forward and then turned off the switch to the seat heater. I examined the seat and discovered a dime sized burn through hole in the seat. The burn trough is approximately shoulder high on the seat.

After having repairs made at the dealership for drivers seat heater not working. The driver seat heater element was replaced, I had driven approximately 20 miles when the seat started smoking and caught fire. By the time I got the car stopped and pulled to the side of the road the inside of the car was filled with smoke and the drivers seat was completely on fire. With the help of another motorist I was able to get out of the car. I received severe burns to my right leg and hands. By the time the fire department arrived the car was a total loss.

In 2014, the heater in the seat malfunctioned and burned through the seat on the driver's side and through the coat I was wearing while driving. Now, the seat heater on neither side works. I reported the incident to gm and they say that the car was not on recall and it was nothing they could do.

Letter from senator brown on behalf of constituent re concerns about 2008 Chevrolet Malibu (respond to cleveland office the consumer stated the transmission cooler lines and front hub assembly were replaced. Also, the power steering light illuminated and the headlights had condensation which caused the bulbs to blow out. The dealer found a seal around the parameter of the capsule was not properly sealed at the factory. The intermediate steering shaft and power steering control module were replaced. Also, the front seat heater switch had to be replaced, due to the heater coming on when the seat was occupied.
