Chevrolet Malibu owners have reported 206 problems related to seat belt (under the seat belt category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Malibu based on all problems reported for the Malibu.
The slot in the b-pillar where the seatbelt enters and exits the trim when it's extended or retracted has an unrounded and sharp edge. Under normal use, this plastic edge cuts nylon fibers on the sides of the belt, leading to a overall loss in integrity of the safety restraint. Vehicles should have rounded plastic edges or metal oblong loops to eliminate the belt rubbing against sharp surfaces. The belt is frayed on the side facing the forward part of the vehicle, which rubs the most as it's extended that direction when the driver pulls on the belt to fasten it. An independent mechanic says it seems to be a design flaw and my seatbelt is at a high risk of ripping in the event a substantial force is applied to it by an occupant during a crash.

Steering asst warning came on. This happened in 2022 when I got the vehicle and it’s now happening again. When stopped with foot on brake and auto stop engaged , you take foot off brake steering wheel jerks and steering asst warning comes on. There is also a problem with shift to park. Vehicle shifted into park vehicle doesn’t recognize that it in park and vehicle can’t be shut off until it recognizes that it’s actually in park. Chevy knows this is an issue and will cover it under bumper to bumper warranty but will not fix it under a recall or outside of bumper to bumper warranty. Vehicle has a p1101 code that comes and goes. Engine filter has been replaced, throttle body has been cleaned, maf sensor has been replaced, and the issue continues to persist. There is no know way to fix this. Rear seat belt doesn’t work. Vehicle came like that. Vehicle has had multiple issues. Contacted chevy they want me to pay for a diagnostic out of pocket and submit to them and possibly they will then help. These are all known issues that they are not addressing.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to report a serious issue concerning the recall history of my vehicle and to request an investigation into what appears to be unresolved and inaccurately closed recalls. Vehicle information: •make/model/year: 2018 chevy Malibu hybrid •date of purchase: 2018 (I have been the sole owner since) several safety recalls were previously listed for my vehicle on your website and through the manufacturer, but I recently checked again and now it states there are zero open recalls. I have never had these recalls repaired, and no dealership has performed or contacted me regarding these repairs. Furthermore, my vehicle is currently displaying check engine lights related to the same issues previously associated with the recalls. This suggests the issues were never addressed, yet they no longer appear in the recall system. I am concerned that: •these recalls may have been falsely marked as “completed” •there may be an internal data error causing safety risks to be hidden •I am being denied free repairs due to incorrect closure of these recalls please investigate this matter as I believe it affects not only my vehicle but possibly others. I can provide any documents, error codes, or additional details upon request. Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent safety concern. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

On [xxx] around 1pm me and my mom were in a bad accident we were driving on [xxx] through columbus ohio to go down to kentucky we were at least 50 feet from the truck that was pulling a camper when all of sudden the camper had no brake lights and was not moving my mom pushed the brake all the way to the floor you could feel the car trying to stop but it wasn’t stopping we were only going 25 and should have been able to stop . But we didn’t by till we were in the camper bumper driver side airbag went off but mine in the passenger seat didn’t forcing my head to fly forward then back my seat belt locked to hard I felt I couldn’t breath and I had just had my appendix removed two days before the accident I was screaming in pain I was later on took to the hospital to make sure I was not bleeding on the inside I now sit in my bed feeling hopeless in so much pain . Since I was been laying in bed I kelly blue booked our 2011 chevy Malibu to see what I could possibly get from it but then found out there was not one but three recalls airbag, brakes, and seat belts but I was never notified I did some more digging and found out these are all new my question is why was I never notified about this we have had this car five years and I found all these recalls going all the back to 2020 and we have had it since 2021. I blame chevy for my car accident they failed to tell me something major was wrong with my brakes and airbag. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Was driving down highway at approximately 70 to 75 miles per hour when my drivers side window airbag and seat airbag deployed. It hit my face shoulder and arm. There was no collision and I was able to keep control of the vehicle for the most part. I swerved a little but regained control quickly. My seat belt is locked and is no longer usable.
Driverside airbag light will come on with service airbag message. This does occasionally turn off but comes back for days or weeks at a time. Driver side seatbelt light will randomly come on and stay on or turn off. Both airbag and seatbelt light may be on at the same time. If they are all off or the airbag light turns off it's only for a day or two. Most of the time it will be the airbag light only that is on and tends to stay on longer than seatbelt light.

My safety restraint system keeps failing out and says it’s a seatbelt tensioner problem. Gm has repaired many times and still fails out.
Front seat belts come unbuckled while driving. My wife commuted to work in this car for about 12 months (37 miles one way) and mentioned that sometimes the seatbelt would come unbuckled. I suspected that she was not getting it latched in properly and did not think much of it as when I looked at the seatbelt it functioned properly. However our daughter started driving this car to and from school and also mentioned issues with the seatbelt occasionally coming unbuckled, unfortunately she was involved in a collision. When we learned that she did not have her seatbelt on it surprised us. When my aunt and uncle who owned the car visited in the hospital, my aunt mentioned that she also has had the seatbelt randomly come unbuckled multiple times in that car. I purchased seatbelts from cars of the same age and platform (1997-2004 gm n body) and have inspected them. I believe there is a design flaw that allows the seatbelt to latch in and feel secure when it is actually not locked in. In my pictures note the scratches on the release button. It is my feeling that normal debris (hair, lint, ect) may be causing the release button to partially stick down (1/8" or so). When the release button is stuck partially down the belt side can be inserted into the buckle and it will latch with a click sound, however the white plastic lock tab will not drop under the lock rod. In this latched but not locked situation the belt can be pulled on with a fair amount of force and still stay latched. When compared to other seat belt styles from other models of cars, I notice that the release button or cover have a smaller "slide surface area". Also on the other seat belt styles if the release button is stuck partially down the belt will not latch into the buckle.

My car air passenger dont detect my seatbelt says im not buckle and I am dont know if its a wire my lighting inside goes on and off and my car smells too much gasoline.
The seatbelt became locked in the full retracted position and could no longer be used. The trim of the car was removed to confirm there were no obstructions or twists on the belt.
I bought the car from variety auto in abingdon va, and then I had the accident on may 3rd 2022 I took it to the collision center and then after they repaired the body they noticed the airbag lights and the restraint system lights came on also, and when ramey’s started doing the work for the air, module and wireing harness and air bag thay noticed that the wireing harness was not working properly and the air bag was cut completely out they put diodes in the wireing to keep the lights off, they sold me the car saying that there was no airbag deployed but we later found out that it was, and also when I had the accident it didn’t deploy and that’s why is because there wasn’t a airbag in it to start with, if you need anything else we have all the proof of deception by someone and if you need anything else here is my phone number (276)722-0572 you can call me anytime, thank you!!! I tried to up load all the pages and everything but it would only let me do the first paige, so if need these let me know and I can probably get them faxed to you, thank you!!!.

The cable that connects the drivers side seatbelt to the frame of the car completely severed in half (possibly due to repeated bending/fatigue when buckling the seatbelt). If the automobile was in an accident before the cable completely severed in half it surely would have broken in an accident and the driver could have been seriously injured. General motors has a special recall on this issue but it does not seem to be enough to prevent the problem from happening. The seatbelt cable was inspected by gm when the special recall was issued but nothing was done at that time to correct the problem - it was only inspected. If gm is just going to inspect the cable for wear and is not willing to replace it, then perhaps these seatbelt cables should be inspected on a yearly frequency. It does not seem that a one time inspection is good enough. The cable may just be inspected one time and not indicate enough wear to be replaced and then later deteriorate and completely break as mine did. The seatbelt cable on my car has now been replaced by the dealer.
Rear seat belt will not retract. Will not engage into park when car is turned off. Trunk, back seat, headliner, entire carpeted floor, front seats get wet when car is washed or it rains. Mold is beginning to grow inside trunk and headliner.
I went to put my seat belt on, car was parked, (driver side front) and the cable that holds it the floor snapped in half. Can not use seat belt until I get it replaced. Called dealership and I knew car was out of warranty, but this is a safety issue. Said nothing they could do. The belt itself is ok, it's the cable on floor that broke in half. Car on has 30,000 miles on it. This happened today Nov. 4 2021. Car is available for inspection.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the front driver’s side seat belt retractor malfunctioned, and the seat belt would not secure the driver. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 60,450.
The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph a second vehicle crashed into the front end of the vehicle. During the crash the top section of the front passenger side seat belt malfunctioned and did not secure the passenger causing the passenger to make contact with the front windshield. Also, both the front driver and passenger side airbags did not immediately deploy upon impact. The front passenger sustained bruising of the bottom torso, back, neck and head injuries. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 96,336.
Power steering is locking up when make a turnaround or for a turn wheel in motion. The car will be on and when the power steering is about to lose the power, my stereo screen will black out along with the steering wheel locking. It feels as though my power steering is out while making a turn. This does not happen, only happens randomly.
As time is going on the steering is getting less controllable. I have yet to get into an accident but I can feel the car swerving a bit when I'm steering (swerving I didn't do). I looked up my VIN on iseecars. Com to see if there was a recall at all with the steering and there was in 2014 . I bought this car last year so I am the owner and am not sure how to go about this. I got it checked out and the mechanic said there is definitely an issue with the rack and pinion and shaft . Also my passenger seatbelt light remains on at all times and there have been minor issues with them.
Seatbelt locking up. Will not release. Will correct itself. After a period of time but that doesn't help of the seatbelt is non functional. Dealership said it would be $400 to fix and the part is back ordered. Leads me to believe I'm not the only one that has this issue. This has happened several times over the course of a year that I've owned the vehicle. I usually notice the problem when putting the seatbelt on before moving on the road.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact previously received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v269000 (seat belts). The contact had taken the vehicle to terre haute Chevrolet (5377 s us hwy 41, terre haute, in 47802) and had the recall repair performed. Recently, the contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the driver's side seat belt latch anchor detached from the vehicle without warning. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.
The driver side seat that is welded to the frame of the car has broke. The right side of my drivers side seat now collapses when driving which is extremely dangerous not to mention the seatbelt is attached to the right side of the seat and buckled into it which is now collapsed which could cause a major issue if I was to ever get into an accident. I have done some reasearch online and this appears to be a common issue amongsts most 2004 Malibu owners. I am the second owner and I get the car is close to being 20 years old but mine only has 60k miles the drivers seat weld should not just detach and collapse while driving on a practically brand new car. Not to mention I am an average sized man 200 lbs 5 foot 7 on top of that I enquired to fix it at my local Chevrolet dealer and it will cost well over 1000 dollars based on a verbal estimate. I can jerry rig the seat to not collapse but that doesnt stop the fact that god forbid im in an accident my drivers seat could potentially become detached hurling myself and the seat into the window causing severe bodly harm or worse death. Please look into this as im sure many other people have this same problem it is a faulty weld in the drivers seat and needs to be adressed by the manufacturer Chevrolet.

While my seatbelt is fastened the seatbelt notification goes off as if its not fastened. Also as I'm accelerating it's like my car struggles to get to 40 mph. Sometimes I have to give it a little more gas for it to go over 40.
I’m having recalled issues in my car, but the car has no recall on it.
