Failure Date: 11/02/2016

My engine (v6 3. 8l 3800 series) is leaking oil on the engine. My mechanic told me this yesterday (11/2/16) when he replaced the plastic elbows as I had antifreeze leaking from them. He said the 3. 8 l engine has a recall for this, oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets and said Chevrolet has a recall to replace them. I do remember seeing this recall online somewhere, but have not seen it while searching the last two days. My mechanic old me it will cause a fire. I have 87771 miles on my car. I have to add a quart of oil in between oil changes. I have had to do this since I purchased the car 6/2008. The car has been leaking oil for awhile now.

12 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 12/31/2013

I have been the sole owner of this 2005 Monte Carlo. I had an oil leak and the chevy dealer ran a dye test to see where the leak was coming from. The test show it was the rear main seal that was bad. I have taken my car in on all scheduled oil changes, running mobil 1 synthetic (recommended) and having all scheduled maintenance done. I do not feel a rear main seal should be going out on this low mileage vehicle (under 50,000 miles). I feel this is a defect. I called the Chevrolet customer care line, and they were no help.

13 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 06/06/2009

Gm recall no. 90047 - why does the remedy not address the reason behind the oil leak. Under so-called hard braking, as reported in the recall notice, where is the oil supposedly leaking from. Rather than treating the symptom, the source of the oil leak should have been addressed. It is against environmental pollution efforts to allow for such a defect to continue. I'm sure it would have been more costly to gm to fix the cause of the leak, but given the large number of vehicles with this engine all leaking, the proposed spark plug channel swap just doesn't make sense. I am requesting a re-assessment of the proposed solution and suggest epa also be consulted considering the environmental impact this has. I would welcome a response.
