Front Air Bag Problems of Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. When the vehicle stopped the front air bags deployed. The manufacturer had an inspector come out to inspect the vehicle and confirmed that there was a faulty air bag system. The manufacturer stated that they would purchase the vehicle since repairing it was not an option. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 124,314.

Air bag on passenger side dash has lifted up - the vinyl cover has lifted off. There was no impact or any other reason for this to happen. The air bag is still in the dash and has not imploded but I am fearful that this might happen. Chevrolet has said they will review the problem and perhaps may or may not pay 50% to having the air bag repaired which they say means installing an entire new system. I contend that this is a defect and Chevrolet should take care of the problem free of charge. Chevrolet said because of the year and mileage (62,000) that it is not under warrenty and they cannot be responsible.

The contact was under the impression that she purchased a brand new vehicle. She experienced several problems since the purchase of this vehicle. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership three times ,and no corrections have been made. The dealer discovered the rotors were bent, and brakes leak fluid. The vehicle stalled, and shook terribly. The air bags were fell out of the dashboard. The seat belts on the driver's side intermittently worked. The dealership insisted there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. She contacted the attorney general's office regarding the lemon laws. She attempted to get the dealership to take the vehicle back, but they will not offer any assistance. The vehicle was no longer under warranty even though it had only 10,000 miles on it at this time.

While driving 2 mph ran over a small piece of cement, and both airbags deployed. No injuries.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision in which air bags deployed, causing drivers shirt to catch on fire. Please give any further details.

Brakes failed at 25 mph causing consumer to rearend another vehicle. Damage to vehicle was $2100. Vehicle had been taken to dealer numerous times in past, beginning in August of 2000. Dealer replaced calipers/pads, and turned rotors. Dealer said there was nothing wrong with brakes. Also, neither airbag deployed.

While driving 30-35 mph had a front crash, and neither airbag deployed.

Vehicle was involved in an accident while travelling about 25 mph, neither air bag deployed and the car turned over. Vehicle totalled. Dealer contacted and cannot duplicate the problem.

Air bags: was driving approximately 35mph, when a vehicle came along and didn't stop, I hit her head on, neither air bag deployed. Cause unknown ,have not taken in for repairs.

When vehicle was involved in a inter-sectional crash; traveling about 40 mph, there was no deployment of air bags. The whole front end of vehicle was destroyed. Damages totalled over $5,000 dollars.

No deployment of driver's/passenger's air bags during rear end collision, driver sustained injuries. Also driver's seat collapsed, throwing driver into the rear of the vehicle.

Consumer air bag has been replaced three times due to frame expossing air bag.
