Went out to start car. Turned on key, set radio. Then turned key to start engine with a resulting loud explosion from under hood. In hurry to get up hood and extinguish fire experienced burns on hands from lifting hood and a fuel line that was squirting fuel/flames. Fire extinguisher extinguished flames. Upper intake manifold is blow apart with multiple sensors destroyed. Thank god this happened at home with an extinguisher handy and not driving down the road with no time to slow down.

For the course of a 3 month period my vehicle kept giving off codes. After several codes of misfiring it took my mechanic quite some time to figure out the problem. He just couldn't put a finger on it and could only find that one spark plug was gunky. He cleaned it and replaced it to see if that would help the issue. It did for about one month then my vehicle began giving off lots of different codes. After it coded for the 5th or 6th time it was finally realized that my car was coding due to the gas and oil not doing what they were suppose to be doing and it was causing gunky buildup under the engine. What ended up happening is that I had to do a major tune up because all the spark plugs were gunky and burned up as well as the wiring and also had to clean the fuel lines. For a car that only had about 39,000 this should not normally be required at this point! in addition I only use 93 octane gas which is required of my car and I take my car in every 3 months for a checkup and oil change. I also use only the best oil in my vehicle: mobil 1 fully synethic oil (no blend). I was told that this would not be covered under my extended warranty because it's considered a complete tune-up. However, it is obvious something was not running right in converting the gas 'n oil under the engine to effectively do their job. A vehicle kept this well should not have to have a full tune-up requiring all wiring harnesses to be replaced with a vehicle of such low mileage. This was a repair that cost me $660. There was some obvious mechanical issues here that are normally seen in a vehicle this new. This is something you find in a vehicle closer to the 75 - 100,000 mile mark and also with one perhaps that doesn't use the best of gas, oil and maybe doesn't keep up so well with maintenance. I'm meticulous in my maintenance and care and I feel there was some defective issues going on that caused my problem. I have all mechanic documentation to assist in my complaint.

I have a 2003 chevy Monte Carlo ss. On July 31, 2009 the vehicle stalled while on an entry ramp onto the garden state parkway. I lost power steering and braking but was able to pull over to the shoulder and restart the vehicle. Over the course of the next several weeks the vehicle would stall intermittently either at stop lights, approaching stop lights/signs, while turning in the middle of intersections or while highway driving. I initially took it upon myself to pop the hood and see if there were any obvious issues. I noted a leaking fuel fitting that would spew fuel when moved around in the slightest. I brought this to the attention of my local chevy dealer. They replaced the whole fuel line (I was told they cannot just replace the little plastic fitting), the fuel injection system was 'serviced' and I was told my steering column had to be replaced because the knuckle joint was about to snap because it was almost fused. Several days later the stalling issue arose again. I brought the car back to the dealership and they had it for 2 days (I even let their mechanic take the vehicle home in the hopes of reproducing the issue). They were unable to offer a solution because they couldn't have the vehicle stall while in their possession. Several days later it again stalled. I contacted gm corp. And they said that I need to bring it back to the dealership again to look at. This stalling issue does not happen frequently enough to be able to diagnose while in their possession and I am being told that there is nothing that can be done. I have no confidence in driving the car because I lose all power functions (I. E. Steering/braking). The vehicle only has about 65,000 miles on it and has been maintained properly. The dealership even told me the car is 'in good shape'. This is a serious safety issue and a potential threat for accidents.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stopped at a gas station and noticed that the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. Once he returned home, he noticed a large amount of brake fluid had leaked onto his driveway. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the failure was due to the salt used on the roads during the winter. The contact had the service center order the parts to repair the failure. The failure mileage was 36,200 and current mileage was 36,646. Updated 6/2/08
the brakes failed due to a rusted out brake line. The consumer stated the brake line should have been stainless steel. The gas line was also in the process of rusting.

On December 24, 2004 in the evening my vehicle which is a 2000 chevy Monte Carlos would not start at the mall. My husband and I proceeded to try to get the vehicle to start. However, it didn't start. We the vehicle try to start after trying to start it "back fire" causing the upper manifold, the engine cover, gaskets and oil cap having to be replace. We had the vehicle to be towed to our home. Then, we had charlie jones, of jones mechic and heavy equipment to come and look at the vehicle. He stated that because we continue to try to start the vehicle fuel in the lines build up causing the vehicle to back fire. Well after we got the vehicle repair we receive a recall notice from chevy telling customers of a fuel regulator which is faulty and can cause the vehicle to back fire when battery is low. Exactly what had happen to my car. How ever if though chevy acknowledge the default they denied to pay me back my expense. Their recalls states everything that would happen to my car. I'm just so upset because I found out that although the battery was low the car shouldn't have back fire if it wasn't for the recall part.
2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo has brake and fuel lines that have rusted out. Consumer states that the dealership said this is normal.
