The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. While the vehicle was parked the contact turned the steering wheel and heard a clicking sound in the steering. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing who stated the steering knuckles detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. Nhtsa recall campaign id number: 09e005000 (steering) may be related to the failure. The contact also noticed fuel leaking from the fuel regulator that could be associated with NHTSA recall campaign number: 07e021000 (fuel system, other:storage:tank assembly:pressure relief devices); however, the recall was for an after market pressure regulator. The contact confirmed that the vehicle had original parts. The manufacturer was made aware of both failures and stated the VIN was not included in either recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

3 Tank Assembly problem of the 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo experienced problems with the fuel regulator. The consumer drove about 7 miles and noticed that the fuel tank needle moved from full tank to half tank during the short ride and saw smoke coming form under the hood. The next day a strong smell of gasoline could be smelled. The consumer opened the hood and noticed fuel was leaking onto the ground. It was later determined that the fuel regulator had failed. The consumer has the faulty regulator.

The gas tank on my 1998 Monte Carlo has rusted through ,I have checked at NHTSA web site and this seems to be a defective problem, I have also check at a junk yard and this was also the case the gas tank was runted through . I made complaint to chevy but was told car to old and warrenty had run out, I feel this is a real big problem and very dangerous for all the people driving thses cars should they every be in an accident it would proably go up in flames this is something that should be looked into before lives are lost.
