A yr. Aft. I bought my 2005 Monte Carlo, things began going wrong with it. First 2 things to go:the cruise control & re-window defroster. The next yr, while driving at night on the interstate, I switched my lights to brights & within seconds I had no lights at all! this could of caused a very bad accident, I was able to quickly switch the lights back to dim & luckily they came back on. Since then, I no longer use the bright lights, for fear of my lights not coming back on. Then it seemed like everything went haywire after that, odometer showed that I was going 110, gas gauge quit & temp gauge registered past 260. Not a fun night to be driving, not knowing my correct speed, how much gas I had, if my car was going to overheat or have no lights! since 6/15/2012 the tach now registers between 6000-7000 rpms & none of the gauges are working properly. My car also smells like it has an exhaust or fuel leak which comes thru the vents, it makes me sick & gives me headaches. I took it to a dealer a yr. Ago, paid $98. 00 for them to tell me they couldn't find a problem. To this day, my car still smells like gasoline, I pray it doesn't catch on fire. Tonight I've been researching these problems & found that the faulty gauges is a very common problem with these cars & quite expensive to fix. I feel chevy should be held responsible for repairing this problem & all the others, after all they're the ones who built a car with many serious problems. This is very unfair for the many consumers out there who have spent their hard earned money to buy this car. Not everyone can afford to get this fixed along with paying the car payment. I don't understand why they can't be made to take care of this. What would have to happen in order to make them pay? what's listed above? a crash, fire, injury or death? shouldn't have to be that way, something needs to be done before any of that happens!.
Gas gauge all of a sudden stopped working and I ran out of gas!.

My 2000 Monte Carlo ss has problem with the fuel system which has a recall on it but my VIN isn't included in the recall.
I was trying to start the car again, and the engine exploded in my face while I was standing over it.
Car would not start again, raised hood and proceeded to attach jump cables, and at the moment just before attachment, my daughter turns the key and wow, what an explosion! I was injured very bad the whole center of the motor was all over my driveway and I was thrown away from the car. Over 25,000 in medical bills and months of disability and still seeking medical attention to this day.
We have 2 Monte Carlos, a 2000 and 2004, both of these had sensors go out of the gas gauge. In talking with some others, theirs did too. Royal Chevrolet in bloomington, in charges almost $500 for this. I feel since this is happening a lot to this brand of car, it should be recalled.
2005 Monte Carlo over heats, second year I bought the car. Replace a number of things. Gas gauge does not work, speed gauge does not work, rear defrost does not work. This is 2012 and I bought it in 2005. Til this day the car is still over heating. The car is a lemon. When you have a car for seven years, and have to keep financing. To make payments and full coverage insurance and to fix the car, and don't get to drive the car for almost two years. You lose respect for the company that built this model. The manufacturer ought to pay me for taking their lemon off their hands. What ever we fix the car will run, but not long and the list goes on.
Nhtsa#04v09000, I just paid $ 247. 94 + tax to fix my 2000 Monte Carlo (60,000 miles) with the above mentioned recall. Was it possible my auto was missed in this recall? have there been more complaints regarding this recall?.
2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The contact stated the vehicle would not start. The contact tried to start it three or four times when it exploded. This occurred in the engine compartment. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership, who stated that the fuel system was putting too much power to the engine, and that caused the explosion. This happened in may 2005. The vehicle was towed to dealership about the beginning of October 2005. The vehicle was sluggish when started. When driving on the freeway the contact would have to pull over because it was not getting enough power to the vehicle. The debris from the explosion hit the top of the hood. The contact does still have parts from the vehicle. Chevrolet stated that because the vehicle was not under warranty or recall they could not assist the contact.
