Driving down the highway with the cruise control the speedometer started to bounce up and down very erratically. When the speedo would start bouncing it would disengage the cruise control. At some points it would bouncing up and down but not come back above 40 or so mph. When it would do so the transmission would down shift and rev way up then the needle would come back up and the tyranny would shift back up. I had the needle go to 0 and not come back up at all and when sat for a second the transmission would kick completely out and I would be stuck on the road for a minute. After sitting for a bit I could move but the needle stayed at 0 and the transmission acted to be stuck in 1st.

My father n law, n I were going to see a family member 12miles away from his home, when we stopped. At the convience store for snacks, etc. . . We literally couldn't have been out of car 5 min, when store clerk yells hey someone's (chevys) smoking? we saw it was his n went to investigate the problem I went straight to driver side of vehicle n popped the trunk(thinking it wasn't more than a blown radiator hose) lord n heaven was I wrong, the engine looked as if it were all on fire. . . I immediately pushed hood down n ran for an extinguisher luckly the store had a good one. This recall as the country n state n manufacturers, call it is seriously deadly, to b 100 percent honest it is flat out wrong. Something this deadly should b notified to all current owners, of the vehicles. I seriously doubt he would have ever purchased it used or new if he knew what could have happened if my(kids)his grand, were w us. Mistakes happen. Own up to them! that's what makes u who u are. Hopefully you won't damage him more with making this a 72yr old man who know has to pay more time,$$$, n just life for a mistake he didn't commit.

16 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

I was at a red light and the light turned green and I pressed on the accelerator and the engine revved way up but I did not go anywhere, and then kind of clunk and it seemed to have popped in gear. The amount of torque that was delivered to the wheels caused me to veer into the lane next to me that had already began to move. A semi truck almost hit me!.

17 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/07/2013

I had just exited the highway and was sitting at a red light waiting to turn left, when the light turned I stepped on the throttle like normal and the transmission revved up, clunked into gear started rolling and then began to shudder & vibrate. I had only been able to move about 10 feet. I took my foot off the accelerator as the car felt like it would shake it self to pieces. At this point someone almost back ended me. I then stepped on the accelerator again and didn't move the engine just revved and then another large clunk and the car popped into gear jerked forward almost causing me to lose control of the car. If there were poor weather conditions I feel this transmission issue would have caused an accident.

19 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 01/22/2012

While driving my car, it just shut off automatically. Then it has been doing it multiple time since. It can happen three to five times per day. The dealership has tried to reboot the computer system numerous times, it still shuts off with no warning. I just listen to the fan if it shuts off, I have to put the transmission in neutral, and start the car while coasting. I feel that this is related to the gm Chevrolet recall. Feel free to call for a more in depth description of the ignition problem. For the affected parts question, it did not include ignition, therefore, I listed the areas of the car affected when the engine would shut off, the steering, braking were also affected. Thank you.

23 Power Train problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 04/04/2009

I hear from someone that you may be able to help! below is a blog I made to the Monte Carlo forum site. Please read to get an idea of what my complaints are. I own a 2007 Monte Carlo ss. I have been to chevy 6 times under warranty for this transmission issue. Each time they told me they did not find any error codes or problems on the test drives. I find this hard to believe. My transmission shifts hard at times like it is missing. This slipping / hard shifting is a safty hazzard for getting on to parkways and needing to respond quickly to certain situations. All seems to be happening in first gear. I brought the car back to them about 2 months ago (out of warranty) for an engine burning oil issue which by the way I also brought to their attention 5 times under warranty. Which all of a sudden (you guessed it) they amitted the engine was burning oil and I wound up having to pay $1000. 00 to tare down the engine and $250. 00 to flush out the transmission (even though they did not find a transmission issue for a 7th time). They told me the cylinders were not scored and were fine so they changed the pistons and rings. Supposedly the said the job cost $3600 +. My a-- how nice of them, (not). Being I paid for the tare down your telling me pistons and rings cost $3600. Bs, still to early to see if the engine is still burning oil. And here's the kicker-(the car only has 50,000 miles on it and I had a 6 year 60,000 mile warranty on it). So now I am still stuck with this transmission issue which they do not have an answer for. Any suggestions on what I should do next. And going back to chevy is not an acceptable answer unless it's in front of a judge. Any futher questions please do not hesatate to e-mail me. Timothy. C. The tire pressure monitoring system sensor was also illuminating constantly. The vehicle was to be inspected and diagnosed by an authorized dealer. 26 Power Train problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

I bought a new 2006 Monte Carlo in July 2006. Since new I've had issues with the car accelerating when stopped. Also, traveling at steady speeds the rpms fluxuate. Now when you use the cruise control, as the car goes down a grade it pulsates and the rpms fluxuate then clears. Gm and dealer says it is normal. I've owned a lot of gm cars and this is not normal. Had the intermediate steering shaft,,rack and pinion assembly, power steering hose all replaced under warranty. Had to fight with gm to get the rack replaced. Bolt broke on the rear brake cable, dealer said I hit something but not a scratch on the bottom of car and hanger sits up in the frame area.

27 Power Train problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Failure Date: 11/15/2002

The only reason I am submitting this is that I know of 3 other Monte Carlos in this area with the same problem. Gm does not want to re-issue a full warrenty on the repaired part. We stood our ground with them and got a 50,000 mile warrenty in writing from the dealership, but only after telling them I would contact the attorney generals office. . . Which I did anyway. Seems this is a problem they are aware of and are trying to keep it quiet. People should know that they need to argue with the dealer for a good warrenty.
