81 problems related to windshield wiper/washer motor have been reported for the 1998 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Wiper motor stops running - occurs off and on - through-out vehicles history starting around the 40,000 mile mark. Current mileage 75,000 miles.
The windshield wiper motor stops working on my 1998 chevy S10 pickup truck. This happens without warning and has made it difficult to drive safely during a rain storm.
The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet S10. The contact stated that the windshield wipers worked intermittently, which reduced visibility in inclimate weather. The manufacturer stated that his model year was excluded from the recall; therefore, they would not replace the wiper motor circuit board for free. The vehicle has not been repaired. The NHTSA campaign id number was unknown. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 130,000.
I recently purchased a 1998 chevy S10 pickup truck. The windshield wipers exhibit the exact behavior described in NHTSA saftety recall bulletin #03023--the wipers only work intermittently, obviously dangerous here in rainy washingon state. It is my strong belief this vehicle should be included in the recall which now only covers 1995-1997. I would guess it is highly likely this '98 has the same wiper motor circuit board installed as the previous years had.
Visibility:windshield wiper/washer motor.
Windshield wiper motor works then it doesn't.
This is the same problem as others have listed. I turn on the wipers and they sometimes turn on, sometimes don't, other times they go at similar speeds, other times they will not shut off. This seems to be the same as the 97 s-10 recall, this needs to be extended. My dealer told me it would be $800 to fix this problem, I have elected to take my chances.
My 1998 s-10 pickup wipers will fail without notice at any setting of the intermittant switch. I replaced the switch assembly but that did not help the problem. Somwetimes they will restart by wiggling the wires going to the wiper motor. This is very dangerous because when it fails in a downpour you can not see how to get off the road. The problem has existied the last 3 years.
Windshield wipers fail intermittently. Failure is unpredictiable. Last failure occured while I was driving down interstate 495 during a heavy rainstorm.
Windshield wipers worked intermittently. This occurred because of a crack in the solder joint as described in the windshield wiper recall 03v159000, but this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.
I own a 1998 chevy s-10. The windshield wipers have stopped working after months of very sporadic behavior. This behavior began after only 19,000 miles. The consequences of wipers not working are obviously grave. Faulty circuit board has to be replaced (the same board involved in the 1997 recall). I have heard and read of many, many others with the same problem.
Sometimes windshield wiper does not wipe at all. Ometimes it won't stop wiping. Ometimes when set to interrupted wiping, it wipes continuously. As happened frequently, almost every time it has rained and I have had to use the wipers since it started in sept. 2004.
During a rain storm windshield wipers stopped working. After a near accident, the truck was pulled over and stopped at an unsafe location on the shoulder of the freeway. This happened just Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 to my daughter who was driving I-40 from raleigh to our home in chapel hill.
Windshield wipers operated poorly. Consumer took the vehicle to several places for the problem, but no one could find anything wrong. Consumer was told that Chevrolet had a recall on this problem, but could not find any problem of this nature. Sometimes windshield wipers work, and sometimes they won't work. Once they stop they may or may not begin to work again.
Problems with windshield wipers. The windshield wiper would stop in the middle of the windshield while being operated in the rain. This problem has been occurring for the past 2 years.
Intermittently windshield wipers stopped while in operation or will not operate at all during inclement weather. The manufacturer was notified. A recall had been issued for the vehicle the consumer's vehicle was not included due to VIN.
While driving 40 mph in a rain storm the windshield wipers failed. As a result, driver's visiblity was impaired.
While driving in inclement weather windshield wipers failed. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that windshield wipers needed to be replaced.
Consumer complained about a windshield wiper problem. A recall was issued on this make, model, and year. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN.
1998 Chevrolet blazer windhshield wipers do not work on a consistant basis. The worst scenerio was when my son broke his arm and we were leaving the emergency room. Minutes after getting in the car a terrible rain storm hit and made it almost impossible to see. We pulled over and sat for about 1 1/2 hours - when we should have been at the pharmacy getting his pain pills. To me, this is unacceptable. There have been too many times to even recall as to when the wipers have not worked. The recall needs to include 1998 blazers!!! dls.
While driving at any speed front windshield wipers failed intermittently. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
While driving in inclement weather windshield wipers came on and off own their own. This caused the driver to have poor visibility while driving.
Windshield wiper motor failed. A recall was issued. However, this vehicle was not included due to VIN.
While driving during rainy weather windshield wipers intermittently failed.
I have a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pick-up that the windshield wiper motor periodically stops. This can occur at any time when the wipers are on. I know there was a recall by Chevrolet on other models related to this failure. The wiper motor components used in the s-10 series resemble the same as what was used in other models that were under the recall notification. Could these be related? how can I find out if other owners are experiencing the same problems? the last date of the failure was 3/1/04. This sudden stoppage of the wiper motor could potentially cause accidents by obscuring the vision of the driver.
While driving in inclement weather windshield wipers come on and off on their own. This is an intermittent problem.
Trucks with a defective windshield wiper module that causes the wipers to stop working. Gm has limited the recall of this defective part for vehicle up to 1997 even though the part is used in 1998 vehicles. 1998 chevy s-10 the wipers stopped working . I called chevy dealer where I was told that the defective part had been recalled for vehicles only upto 1997. . Due to this defective part. Gm needs to modify this recall to include 1998.
1998 chevy s-10 pickup. Windshield wipers only function intermittently, or sometimes not at all. If they do function, the intermittent feature does not work properly. The wipers often stop in the middle of the windshield. I have called a dealer regarding repair, was told that only 1996 and 1997 s-10s were included. I called chevy customer service and they said the same thing. Dealer told me it was a circuit board in the windshield wiper motor and I could do it myself for about 100 dollars. Gm should be fixing these on the 1998s before someone gets hurt.
Wipers are intermittent. Will turn on and sometimes nothing will happen. Other times the only function I can get to work is "mist". Sometimes whan the switch is on intermittent the wipers will switch back and forth between low and intermittent.
Windsheild wiper will run and then stop when it is raining and will even continue to run when I turn them off after the rain has stoped. I traced the problem wiper motor. When the wipers stop I pull to the side of the road and wiggle the electrical connector on the wiper motor and its magic they work for 5 mins and then you repeat the process. With speed limits of 70 mph I do not recommend doing this on highways, pull over and wait till the rain ends ( hotel may be required). We need help with this problem, gm does not care, they want me to buy a new motor from them, this one is defective and the say there is not a problem. I do not need to purchase another defective part from them.
Consumer noticed while using windshield wipers and without warning intermittently wipers would stop working. Dealer has been contacted.
Intermittently, the windshield wipers became inoperable, obstructing the driver's view. A recall had been issued on similar makes and models, however this vehicle was not included due to the VIN. The windshield wipers did not respond while driving in the rain. The consumer pulled over, then the wipers suddenly began to work.
The S10's windshield wipers work intermittently at best. The wipers will start sometimes and work ok. Other times, they will not start, or will stop on their own. . . . Usually during the worst possible time. This is very similar to complaints made on 1996 1997 s-10s where there is a recall on the wiper system.
Windshield wipers only work when they want too.
Wipers motor not functioning properly. Wipers quit working suddenly & sometimes will not start at all. Wipers will speed up on their own accord and don't shut off promptly.
