9 Windshield Wiper/washer problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2005

Driving in the rain the windshield wipers fail at random positions. The last incident happened on a country road where there was no shoulder to pull off on to. A very dangerous situation because the drivers visibility was severely restricted to on coming traffic. This failure was on a recall status for the 1996 and 1997 Chevrolet S10 models but not included in the 1998 models. Failure of the wiper circuit board. The problem is known to exist but gm will not honor free replacement of the defective part because of a stated age date even though the vehicle has less than 37,000 miles on it.

10 Windshield Wiper/washer problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2005

In the last 2 months, my vehicles windshield wipers have stopped working while in operation or they simply will not start at all. This is very dangerous with the lose of visibility. I took the vehicle(1998 S10 blazer) to the dealer and he replaced a bad circuit board module to fix the problem and have paid the dealer for the fix. I have found that gm already has a recall for this vehicle for the 1997 model but my years model is not covered by the recall. The NHTSA id # is 03v159000. Gm should cover this very dangerous problem on the 1998 model as it very obvious that this model has the same problem as the 1997's.

12 Windshield Wiper/washer problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2005

Windshield wipers quit working while raining. Has done this for the last 2 1/2 years. Thankfully I have not wrecked. Everyone I have talked to has said that there is a recall for 1996 and 1997 models but not for 1998's. Well there needs to be. Nothing has been to correct the failure be cause cheverolet says there is nothing wrong because there is no recall on this year model. I don't have the money to replace every part and see by trial and error. I've read that it might be a circuit board. I guess its going to take someone getting killed to do something about it.

Windshield wipers have occasionally stopped working while driving in the rain. I recieved a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that some vehicles were being recalled because of this problem. I took my S10 pickup to a dealership for the repairs and they refused because my truck is a 1998 model and they said the recall was for 1997 models. Someone I spoke with said that cleaning the contacts on the curcuit board would remedy this situation. I did this and it seemed to take care of the problem. However it happened again recently. My wipers quit whenever they feel like it, especially in a pouring rain, or they will not come on at all! there is also a problem with them not going off when turned off. I hit a deer because the wipers would not turn off after using the window washer to clean my window in my garage. After many attempts to turn them off, I proceeded to drive the 20 miles to my job site. On the way, I hit a deer. It could have been much worse, the oncoming pickup could have been what I hit. Please, this is a very dangerous situation! after reading 21 pages of complaints about the same thing, I would think that someone would take this as a serious subject.

Gm has admitted this exact same problem with 96 and 97 s-10's but saying there is no problem with 98 and newer. After a very lengthy discussion with a customer service rep. At gm, they decided to give me 50% credit if I take my truck to a gm dealer and have it properly diagnosed and repaired there, but why should I have to pay at all for a defect in their product!!!!! this problem has been ongoing since I bought the truck in 01/04, makes me think twice about buying another gm product.
