Seat recliner handle broke off while adjusting seat while driving. Problem was reported to a Chevrolet dealer, who said there was no recall or known problem. Seat is now at a funny position, I will have to repair at my own expense. Handle assy. Is a very cheap and inadaquate for its purpose.
Seat latch popped off while adjusting the seat. Vehicle was not in motion. Manufacturer was notified.
Seat levers on both seats have broken off completely. Dealer stated that it would cost $200+ each to replace them, dealer mentioned that this was a frequent occurrence for the vehicle.

Driver's side seat broke while traveling on highway lever to the seat broke. Dealership is aware of problem. Consumer stated that both passenger and driver seat recliners broke.
Seat adjustment level sheared off, causing problem with driver's seat.
Reclining seatback latch broken/ third door handle broken.
While parked, both seat adjustment latches failed at the same time. Driver side seat collapsed back, causing driver to strike head on rear window. Property damage is cost to repair seats.
The reclining mechignition on both seat are made of very cheap metal, and both have snapped off at the seat itself. Also you can be driving down the road and the seat will slide back after releasing itself from the locked position. And the third door handle is plastic and breaks when trying to open it in the cold weather.
The handle used to recline the passenger side seat broke completely off. I went by the dealer. They stated they had replaced lots of these, but that GMC hadn't recalled them or anything. Since my vehicle was out of warrenty, I would have to pay for entire cost. I told them I would wait because gm should recall if they are faulty.
The handle to recline the seat has broken off due to a weak light metal. This has happen on the company balzer as well as my personal truck.
My handles for the seats to recline has broken 4 times since I purchsed my S10 truck. Twice under warranty. Warranty is gone, both seat handles are presently broke.
No events leading to it. Just happens out of the blue when using it. This happens sporadically. Seat recliner levers defective and break very easy, the parts that hold it together are cheap die cast metal. Haven't bothered replacing as I cannot afford, dealer wont replace, junk yards don't have them.
We operate a fleet of these s-10 and sonoma vehicles. The rear mounting studs for the bench seat are breaking out the sheet metal(due to metal fatigue?) the left side mount is right above the left frame rail. The brake and fuel lines are on top of this frame. We first noticed this condition 10/30/2000, and have found the same condition on at least 12 more vehicle, 1996 and 1997. I think the newer ones will also fatigue in time. I have digital photo's avail if requested.

Seat back recliner lever has broken on the driver side front seat. When I fold my seat forward to gain access to the back seats and then return the driver seat to the original position, the seat back is too far forward. I can not recline the seat back to a safe driving position. I feel like I am leaning forward towards the windshield.
Passenger's seat handle adjuster broke. Dealer has replaced handle adjuster prior to this incident.
I have had another seat recliner handle fail. The handle on the driver's seat has broken off again at 34,000 miles. This is the third handle failure. The recliner mechanism, internal to the seat, must be replaced. The seat back cannot be adjusted with a broken mechanism and must be left in whatever position it was in. This is hazardous if a person is driving. Their is a pattern of failure in the factory design.
Seat recliner handle breaks off. Weak design. The seat can be left in an unusable position. Both the driver and passenger seat recliner handles have failed. The driver side failed at about 20,000 miles and the passenger side failed at 30,000 miles. I believe the drivers side handle is about to fail again as it is becoming loose.
Front seat recliner.
Three days after purchasing a new Chevrolet S10 pick up my cousin was sitting in the passenger seat and when I came to a stop he slid forward, his body pressing against the dash. What he told me was that the seat would not lock in place. I have taken it back to the dealer five times in the span of three months for problems with this seat. They did the following "fourth time in, floor bent causing seat tracks to bind [bend] removed right seat trim to torque bolts to specs given by tech line - did not work. Removed seat to shim seat up a corner at a time. Did not work. Bent floor up (1') inch. Worked for a while. Called tech line. Got metal plates to reinforce floor. Drilled out plates to reinforce floor. Drilled out plates & installed with shims to align seat tracks as per technical assistance center (tac) recommendations. Ed phelps, district service manager, involved with repairs. " today I was told by a manufacturer representative that there was a "bulletin" issued concerning S10 seats and that I could find it on your site. What's going on. And is my truck safe for my passengers?.
Passenger's seat keeps moving back and forth. Will not stay latched. Vehicle has been in / out of dealer's shop on six occasions, and problem still reoccurring.
Handles on recliner seat broke. These handles had broken 4 times. Contacted dealer. Consumer was covered first time under factory warranty, but currently they were not covered . GMC knew that haddles on recliner seat were defective.
Driver and passenger recline lever broke off, each quite easily and with little effort.
Recliner latch has broken twice on the passenger side, and three times on driver's side. Seat also slid forward when brakes were applied. Dealer has been contacted.
When driving driver's side seat locking mechanism is not secured. Consumer had his vehicle in dealership more than once.
The recline handles on both of my seats snapped off the first time they were used. I took it ti the dealer and they said it was not covered by the warranty. I was told that I would have to replace the seats inorder to fix the problem. . . They also told me that I broke them by applying to much force to the seat recline levers. I am only 5,2 and I dont think I could apply that much force to break metal unless they were defective to begine with. I would accept it if only one broke but when both of them broke this is a little more than coincidence. . . I would like cheverolet to recall these or issue a repair part.
The drivers side seat recliner arm continues to snap off. It breaks off at the steel itself and not on the plastic. I have brought it back to the dealership 3 times to be repaired. I also contacted Chevrolet they feel this does not warrant a new seat. This can be a safety hazard if someone adjusts the seat and this piece breaks it makes it dangerous to drive the vehicle.
The levers that recline the seats broke off at the welds. It is an obvious manufacturing defect as a result of a poor welding process. The break was at the heat affected zone and the metal was not properly heat treated.
Seatback adjuster broke, causing the driver seat to move back unexpectedly and could cause a crash. It has been replaced 3 times. Dlr cannot determine the cause. Please provide further information.
The injury consisted of a dislocation of the s/I joint in the hip and a disk problem in the back. When we took the truck to the dealer we were first told that the part was "worn out". Then we were told that the part was "defective". The parts were replaced out of dealer stock due to a safety concern.
Vehicle was rear ended. Upon impact, driver's seat back collasped throwing the driver under the dashboard. Manufacturer has not been notified.
Recliner seat handles broken 5 times, the handle was never forced it just fell off, the seat was stuck leaning towards the wheel.
