Tire Bead problems of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Two problems related to tire bead have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Tire Bead problem

Failure Date: 08/13/1999

Original manfacturing equipment purchased on a 1999, Chevrolet, Silverado, tire size p24575r16. Cords are coming from tread on all four tires. While driving, one of the firestone wilderness at tires experienced a blowout only having 4000 miles on the tire.

2 Tire Bead problem

Failure Date: 06/05/1999

The tire split from bead to tread when I ran over a pvc pipe at less than 1/2mph. The pipe was not broken so there were no sharp edges and the impact did not break the pipe. When I contacted the local dealer he refused to replace the tire saying it was a road hazard. I asked for a number to call and was refered to an office in nashvilletn. I called and talked to a person who identified himself as rock. I told him what happened and he refused to authorize the replacement of the tire saying it was a road hazard. I told him that these were off road tires that should not have so easily ruptured. He told me that they had to make the sidewalls thin because people like me wanted their truck to ride smooth and the vehicle manufacturers made them build them that way. I told him that I did not believe that. He told me that he did not care what I thought as I was not one of their customers but was just using their product. I then hung up but called a customer relations number listed on the internet. I told the lady that took my call what "rock" had said and she called the local dealer and authorized the replacement of the tire. I am still concerned about this model tire.
