39 problems related to parking brake have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The consumer is complaining of the design of the rear left emergency brake shoes and drum elbows, they allow road salt and other debris to get into the drum possibly causing them to fail. The consumer also states that the rear brakes are squealing due to the rust building up in the brake drum and shoes.
The parking brake wore out at 20,000 miles. The dealer was notified at repaired the problem but at 53,000 miles the problem reoccurred.
The park brake had worn out, the dealer replaced it, however the problem recurred.
The parking brake did not hold because the parking brake pad on the drivers side had nothing to hold it in place. It dropped down and drug against the drum until it wore the bottom of the shoe out.
