3 Suspension problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/25/2018

I purchased a new (175 miles) 2017 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4x4 from a dealership on 2/10/2017. I noticed the ride was a bit bumpy on the 80 mile ride home from the dealership, but thought nothing of it. The next time I drove it was 2 weeks later (I was on business travel in between and let the truck sit in my garage), and I drove it around town on 2/25/2017. In addition to a minor rough idle, it was very bumpy. It would shake at virtually all speeds. After my 5 minute drive from the grocery store, I literally felt dizzy and ill. The next morning on 2/26/2018, I drove it to work (25 miles), and experienced the same feelings of motion sickness. I am a certified auto technician with nearly 20 years experience, and have worked on all components of cars and trucks (engine repair / overhaul, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrical, heating / ac, etc. ). I've worked on trucks spanning a wide range of years with various issues and mileages (low mileage to +250,000 miles). I have never felt a more uncomfortable ride in a truck in my years of test driving vehicles (before and after repair) than I have with this new 2017 Silverado. I attempted to contact landers mclarty Chevrolet in huntsville, al, and was told that this safety concern could not be addressed at their dealership until the truck had at least 500 miles . I informed them of my concerns about driving it until then as I have under 400 miles on it, and they told me to drive 80 miles to the dealership where I bought it to have it looked at. Unbelievable! after much research, this "motion sickness" issue is a known issue by general motors, and does not have a proven documented fix in place to this day.

4 Suspension problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

Just bought a new 2017 black edition. Reg cab short bed. 5. 3. Shakes from new over 73+ mph. Took it to dealer at 648 miles on 01/19/2018. Purchased new 12/28/2017. They rebalanced all 4 wheels. Still shakes. They put a new driveshaft in and said it was fixed. I picked it up today. Nope. It's worse. Now it begins shake no at 60 and at 74-75 has a pretty dramatic shake. This happens while driving on the interstate. Now I go back again Monday to let them have another go at it. This is a brand new truck.

5 Suspension problem of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 11/02/2017

I bought my 2017 Chevrolet Silverado on October 2017. Not even one month after purchased I had to bring back the vehicle due to loud clunking noises and jerking. I had to bring the truck in at least 3-4 times a year due to the same problem.

8 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/31/2015

October 31, 2014 on my home from work I heard a bang. The truck pulled very hard to the left taking me into the concrete barrier that divides the highway. Vehicle was in motion us highway 41/45 65 mph. After the truck was investigated at the dealer to give an estimate on the damage it was discovered the left rear axel was broken. Questioning the dealer about this issue and not getting anywhere I talked to different mechanics that I know after a week or so it was discovered there was a recal for insuffcient heat treated rear axles talking to the dealer and I was told this did not pertain to my vehicle as the recall was taken care of at the factory. I cantacted Chevrolet and was told that because I had given the ok for the dealer to make the repairs. My insurance company would need to fole paper work against Chevrolet which myself I believe is wrong . I was also told by the dealer broken axle was typical of this kind of impact. There is no damage on the side panel or rear of the truck I do have pictures on my phone which I have not downloaded to my computer.

9 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/19/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving a highway rate of speed, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating extensively in the front. The contact pulled the vehicle over and inspected the vehicle but was unable to determine what was causing the failure. The contact mentioned that upon turning the vehicle off and restarting the vehicle, there was less shaking but the strong vibration continued. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change, tire rotation and an oil pressure check. The dealer was informed of the condition of the vehicle and they stated that the bed cover was after market and the wind was causing the strong vibration and shaking to happen. When the dealer made that statement the mechanic did not test drive the vehicle, inspect the vehicle and did not provide a diagnosis. The contact continued to experience the condition. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for longer than five weeks and the contact was waiting for the manufacturer and the dealer to provide a permanent remedy for the condition. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. Dyd.

10 Suspension problem of the 1995 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

Frame rust. All parts connected to frame. Parts holding tanks etc. Excessive rust. Bands cables lines. Excessive rusting.

11 Suspension problem of the 1995 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

The 16 inch spare tire wheel fell out from underneath the truck while driving. After taking truck to replace spare the spare tire hoist cable had broke. The cross brackets were rusted and beyond repair. The end of truck frame itself is rusted away. I see many issues coming because of excessive rust.

12 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Has a vibration at 65, turns into a bad shake at 75.

13 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

14 Suspension problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

The trucks have a vibration that is felt in the steering wheel, floor, seats, accelerator and brake pedals etc. While driving. The major consensus it that the worst speed it 76 mph, yet it is felt to a lesser degree at any speeds, with some being worse than others. There are a large number of trucks with this issue, yet general motors refuses to do anything about it. It began within a couple weeks of purchasing my truck. I found people first reporting the issue in 2015, and more recently it continues with the 2015 and 2016 model years.

15 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 04/21/2015

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado. When driving at various speeds, the vehicle vibrated in a strong manner. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the tires and torque converter needed to be replaced. The repairs were made, but the failure still persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vibration was from the design of the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.

16 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

17 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

Traveling on a gravel road @ about 45 mph. Other than being gravel, the road is very smooth. Heard a loud bang and felt it in the vehicle and in the steering wheel. Found driver's side rear leaf spring rear mounting shackle had broken allowing leaf spring to slam against the bottom of the bed, putting an upward dent in it. Repair mechanic commented the vehicle is rusted far more than normal. Rails under doors have large 3 inch holes. Rear bumper is rusted through, the rear tailgate has holes in it. Vehicle only driven to work (2 miles which are gravel) and has very low miles. No one else except Silverado owners are experiencing this issue. Very likely inferior design or materials or both.

18 Suspension problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Hello im reporting a problem I have noticed about rust on the under bodies of the chevy and GMC pick ups. It is a widespread problem and needs to be resolved. There are too many vehicles reporting this problem to make it a coincidence. I myself have this problem where my frame has now cracked for the second time. People are complaining more and more and our safety is at stake. Please whatever can be done to bring gm to recognize this problem can and will save a lot of lives as well as hundreds of thousands of dollars. Thank you.

19 Suspension problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Submission from constituent re gm issues (full document not imaged). The consumer stated the check engine and traction control light illuminated. The #7 cylinder and head gasket were replaced. The right rear spring was broken. The vehicle was consuming excessive amounts of oil. The vehicle would accelerate, when the consumer was attempting to slow down and the number 1 and 3 cylinders were mis-firing.

20 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 08/15/2014

Frame on my brand new 2014 Silverado has major rust issues, chevy dealers say OH it's normal. It's not normal for a very expensive truck to rust while sitting on a lot. I'm not sure it will be safe in a few years at the rate it's rusting. This is a big issue on several places on the net.

21 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

I purchased my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado on 7/11/14. On the way home I called the dealer to tell them that it had a bad vibration when driving at highway speeds. The first repair was attempted on 7/25/14 with 1207 miles. I have had the truck back at least 8 times for a repair. The dealer has replace tires. They have balanced the tires at least 6 times that I know about. They have replaced the drive shaft. The have replace the ring gear and pinion. Replaced the entire differential ( they swapped it from another new truck) they have repositioned the motor mounts. Now they are wanting to replace the rear differential again. I have been patient with them trying to let them fix the concern. They have a general motors service engineer involved and he has several parts ordered for it. The dealership had talked to their factory rep and at one time they talked about gm buying the truck back and getting me another truck. I don't feel the truck I have is safe. It has had the wheels off more times than I would have rotated my tires in 150000 miles.

22 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/12/2014

The vehicle has a shake and vibration in the seats, steering and suspension at interstate speeds of 65 mph and above on smooth roads it has had the shake and vibration since the day I bought it new.

23 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

Severe vibrations at speeds between 58-70 mph. Vibrations pulsate. Vibrations travel through floor boards steering wheel and gas pedal. Truck was taken to dealership. Tires were rotated and balanced drive shaft was determined to be the problem. New drive shaft was ordered. Drive shaft installed yesterday. The vibrations is worse. Taken back to dealership today. Trip number three truck has only 1400 miles on it. Informed gm. They sent me back to the dealership with no solution.

24 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

On Friday may 23, 2014, I was backing an empty boat trailer down my private boat launch with my new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup. When I put the transmission into reverse with my foot on the brake the engine suddenly revved up, started spinning wheels, and shot down the ramp hitting three bulkhead pilings eight feet apart, finally wedging the truck into the last piling and stopping before going into the water. The incident lasted less than five seconds and my foot never left the brake as witnessed by a third party verifying the brake lights never went off. I feel obligated to report this to both Chevrolet and the national highway traffic safety administration. Had this occurred in a public parking area, serious injuries and damage to other vehicles could have resulted. An insurance claim has been made, and after repairs have been completed, the vehicle will be taken to my Chevrolet dealer for analysis for possible defects.

25 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

Since I purchased this vehicle is has had a vibration from 5-20, 40-50, and 68-78. It has been in the service department 4 times for this problem alone with no resolution. General motors understands their is an issue with this model truck but does not have a solution. The vibration is felt in the seat, the gas pedal, the steering wheel and the rest of the truck. Tires were indexed, rotated, and balanced, along with the drive line specifications inspected and were found within normal limits even thought vibration persists. Other issues I have had were the exhaust squeaking noises when transferring from v8/v4 mode, in which the entire exhaust system was replaced, water leaking from the sunroof and windshield, frame coating peeling off causing the frame to rust, the seat frame shifting, moving and clicking when turning the vehicle, hd radio loses signal intermittently, radio and hvac knobs were not lit, headlights were misaligned from the factory, and 4 other recalls such as, overheated exhaust components, unwanted transfer case shift to neutral, peek in odometer display incorrect, and transmission oil cooler connections possibly being bad. This vehicle currently has 6500 miles and has been in the service department a total of 30 days so far.

26 Suspension problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

Parked facing upslope. The truck slipped out of park gear and rolled downhill backwards, knocking over owner. Finally hit a tree and stopped. Insurance declared it totaled.

27 Suspension problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

2014 Silverado shakes at various speeds. Has been a problem since the date of purchase and have been told by the dealership that there was nothing they could do to fix it. There have been complaints of this happening on the vehicle dating back to oct. 2013, gm has been aware that the vehicle shakes and that has not been a recall issued. Dealerships are still selling the truck knowing that there has been numerous problems reported.

28 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I have found that the steel lines running along the frame rails are runsting and found a patch in one place and the possibility of more leaks happening.

29 Suspension problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

Spare tire hoist bracket broke and spare tire was swinging loosely under rear of truck. Further investigation revealed several stress cracks in bracket surrounding the bolt hole. If tire bracket would have broke off tire would drop to pavement and become a road hazard. Sources at dealer indicated they had no bulletins on this item but knew of some people who had lost their spare tires. I still have the parts.

30 Suspension problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

Every brake gas and cooling line rusted. I have looked at other vehicles of same year and miles different makes. No where as rusted as my 06 Silverado.

31 Suspension problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

Rust on the undercarrage. Frame is showing surface rust spots. Parts of the body panels are showing rust.

32 Suspension problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

My 2012 Silverado LS has 22,000 miles. It is a shame because it is a beautiful truck, but the frame looks terrible. It is not a little rust here and there. The rust is literally all over the frame. There is more of the frame with rust than without. The frame is very easy to see. Unfortunately for gm, my truck is a rolling billboard and the rust is getting worst every year.

33 Suspension problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 02/27/2013

Was driving my 2000 1500 and had brake failure. Upon inspection not only did I find extensive rust on lines but my rear shackles are rotting through and some places on the frame. Started to think there no way this should not be happening to this truck. Only 140000 miles this has got to be a case of poor quality. Not only is this a safety issue and should be checked on but it is an expensive fix. I did slide off the road but I came to a safe stop in a field luckily my e-brake worked and noody else was around. Could you please investigate this and take care of it. Chevrolet should stand by their product but they don't care about us, they just want their money. Also there is a lot of rust on body of truck, like actual holes in bedside and passenger side rocker panel is bad. Thank you for your time and consideration ,sincerely chevy truck owner:(.

34 Suspension problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 09/27/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for brake service and was informed that the frame and brake lines were completely rusted. The contact was also told that the vehicle could no longer be driven. The VIN was not available. The failure and the current mileages were 59,000. Kmj.

35 Suspension problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Slowing down to park, pushed brakes, pedal went to the floor. Barely stopped before pinning someone between my vehicle and another truck. Rear brake line burst below driver seat, brake fluid puddle under truck. Upon inspection, all 4 brake lines running along the frame totally rusted, about to burst. Need to replace all lines on whole truck. On the flatbed towtruck, noticed the driver rear leaf spring where it wraps around the bushing was missing the top half. This is where force is transmitted from axle to frame (back is a hanger / pivot). The whole rear axle could have torn off. Noticed where it had cracked and had rusted 1/2 through before falling off, likely sometime recently.
