39 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

All the truck brake lines are rusted and a leak sprung up on the section under the radiator feeding the passenger front wheel. Have looked the entire us for parts and gm has a improved nylon coated part number 22932587 they have apparently discontinued. Numerous sites point to an ongoing investigation of such vehicles with a documented failure rate of 1:1000. The question. . . If the failure rate is this high, and it has been going on since 2010 - why is gm not being pressured to make this right with customers? this repair may cost me approx $1800. 00 and that is a lot considering the defect is so widely known.

40 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

I was stopping to turn onto the road that my work is on. There was a car in front of me turning the opposite direction. I applied my brakes to stop and the pedal slowly went to the floor. I applied them again and the pedal went right to the floor. I was able to slow down enough to not hit the vehicle ahead of me. I parked at the 911 center where I work and looked under my truck. The brake line under my driver side door was leaking extremely bad. There was already a large pool of brake fluid on the ground by the time I got out to look.

41 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

I was approaching a traffic light when it turned yellow and then red immediately. I hit the brakes and went right through the light. There were no brakes at all and my foot hit the floor. As I coasted and tried to downshift the truck came to a crawl, I turned into a road where I could stop the vehicle. There was no warning to let me know that the brake line was going to let go. I could smell something which must have been brake fluid that emptied all over ground. The idiot lite said service brakes and was beeping very loud. I had the truck towed to my mechanic and the new brake lines are going to cost about seven hundred dollars to install coated steel lines which should have been installed from the factory. All foreign cars come with coated or copper brake lines. Why can't american auto builders do it for our own country? this has to be one of the most dangerous thing that can happen and could be avoided for a few more dollars per car. When you spend close to 40,000 dollars for a vehicle don't you think we deserve better than this?.

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

As I am over 50 I have owned many vehicle's and never had to replace brake lines. Just had them replaced today July 29,2014. Yes I live I a state where salt is used on highways, but have lived here all my life and never had to replace brake lines on any car or truck that I owned. Thank goodness the problem was noticed before they failed. I searched the internet and saw this was and is a common problem with this year and make of truck. . . Humm seems strange why so many people having same issue all over the country. Truck is garage keep in summer and only driven in winter. So I ask someone to please look into this matter for me, for as a single parent this bill of $538. 00 will take me years to pay off, for something that should not have to be replaced due to a defect.

46 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

I was coming home from work on rte. 30 near greensburg, PA. At one of the red lights I hit my brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I got stopped in time to not strike the vehicle in front of me. There is definitely a problem with these gm vehicles and they should be recalled. When I called gm they told me it was a problem for the "old" gm and they could do nothing. This is nonsense. I haven't gotten them repaired yet because of dealing with my local dealership. I have older vehicles with twice the mileage and no brake line problems. It's time for the government to get off their butts and do something about this problem.

47 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

This is the second time this has happend to the same vehicle. Brake lines from master cyl. To abs corroded and leaking, lines from abs to wheels corroded and leaking, one driver side front had a major failure. I am reporting this because my 17 year old son drives this vehicle . Gm should be made to replace these brake lines with stainless lines, not brake lines that will corrode again and again. Lives are at stake. Just a matter of time.

48 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

Rusted out brake lines front and rear caused no brake pedal pressure. The driver side rear brake line broke from years of corrosion and cheaply made brake lines. This is a common problem with this model chevy, as you know I'm sure. I've looked online a chevy forums and I'm not the only case that this has happened too. Many, many others have had the same issue and its a big safety concern. Luckily my wife was not traveling at highway speed and was able to pull over to a parking lot and call me to tell me what was going on. She took it to a local shop that was close and they diagnosed the problem. It is in the process of getting fixed and I'm not really too happen on spending $1000 getting it repaired.

49 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2014

Towing a heavy boat at interstate speed limit in kansas. Applied brakes to disengage cruise upon approach to exit ramp. Noticed more than usual pedal travel and began to pump to find some brakes. Pumping did nothing, fully depressing is all that would slow vehicle. Going downhill and approaching stop at end of ramp. Ended up going through stop sign without stopping. Couldn't stop wouldn't stop. Rrolled through stop sign intersecting highway speed 60 mph. Made the turn and got stopped soon after sign but could have ended up in harms way from intersecting traffic had I paniced from not having control and warning lights and alarms. At least I would have known something was wrong 5 seconds before getting t-boned. Once upon a time the body would rust like a rear bumper in about 10 years. Chevrolet spent money to make the paint last longer on the body. That rust would make you get paint or a new truck. It wouldn't or have the potential to injure or kill you or others. Brake lines on 1950 model cars are still stronger than these rusted out 9 year old lines. The unit is designed to run a couple hundred thousand miles. Its only designed to stop by material specifications for about 50 thousand miles. Its as if the leadership at gm forgot about the importance of making the unit stop. Someone was probably rewarded for saving the cost in the change of material of the brake lines. The savings driven by cost reduction in the materials organization is in this case very bad for business. After all if a product ends up reducing the numbers of customers through accidents it has to impact your sales. These people market their product as one longest running vehicles in the market place. Current conditions also has them the longest stopping vehicles in class.

50 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

Brakes completely failed while on freeway traffic backup. While driving at approx. 55-60 mph the cars in front of me hit their brakes and I did the same but I immediately felt the brake pedal go down to the floorboard - the warning bell and red lights came on the dash so I knew something with the brakes had failed. I tried to get to another lane but traffic was too heavy. I pushed the emergency brake and was able to steer the truck between the cars in front of me to avoid hitting anyone before the truck finally came to a stop. Felt very fortunate to not have caused injury or death to myself or anyone else. Was told left rear brake line broke due to corrosion and all brake lines are corroded and must be replaced. $1,000 +.

51 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

52 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

When I went for my recent inspection I was told by my mechanic all brake lines leading to abs system and after were badly rusted and needed to be replaced. Is there any recall to help on getting this fix?.

53 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

My fiance stopped at mcdonalds to get a snack before work. Went into store came out started truck and pedal went to floor. Drove it home and I looked under and saw brake fluid coming out by fuel tank. No warning at all. Rusted out brake lines at 75,000 miles on a well kept truck. I have not fixed it yet but, it is easy to figure out what happened. Brake failure should not happen that soon on any vehicle. Brake systems are sealed and the fact they no longer use stainless steel lines they will rust out in no time at all. I am glad she was not driving down the road when it went bad. She did drive it home the 2 miles for me to look at it in the rain. She almost crashed into a pole. I am pissed off and have been a loyal chevy owner for many years. This is disgusting that such corners are being cut. I am not the only one I have read many online complaints about the same issue. Does someone have to be killed before a safety recall?.

I had just turned off of a busy 4 lane highway, luckely because I would have had an accident, as I came to a stop sign I stepped on the brake pedal and it went to the floor, no brakes at all. . Brake lines rusted and leaked, I see on the computer this seams to be a common problem for this year and model , one area where the lines are placed catches snow and salt and it lays on them causing most of the problem. The truck has only 60,000 miles ive had trucks with 150,000 miles and no such problems. .

I was driving home and applied my brakes, brake pedal went to the floor and did not stop the truck properly. Upon further inspection when I got the truck home revealed all brake and fuel lines have severe corrosion and brake line had corroded through and emptied brake fluid reservoir. Very unsafe condition from inferior materials in my opinion.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined the brake line had rusted through and brake fluid was lost.

62 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2013

When approaching a stop-sigh I applied my brakes and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. I used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. Further review revealed a rear brake line blew out. Last year at this time I had the same problem with a line blowing out in the front where I lost all brakes again. Both times I had it repaired both mechanics stated this is a common problem with this year of the silverado as well as other years. Lines completely rust out. I was advised this time that now my fuel lines appear all rusted as well. Vehicle was used in a salt free environment and this is obviously caused by poor quality parts.

63 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2013

I was southbound on indiana 63 at us 41 light when the signal unexpectedly changed to yellow. The panic stop pressure on pedal caused the line feeding the rear brakes to burst. I was pulling a haulmark trailer with excellent brakes. The trailer stopped the truck and prevented a crash. Closer inspection revealed all lines are drastically rusted where they run behind the wiring harness. This was visible only after the wiring was removed from it's holding clips and moved to the side. Proper repair will call for replacement of all brake lines on the truck. I feel this is a hidden defect that will only become more serious with time. It is not visible during normal servicing. I inspected this truck for rust damage in Jan 2013 and I missed it when I was specifically looking for such things. This spot is hidden by 3 things, the wiring, the frame and the antilock controller. If you own one of these trucks please check it out. Ase master automobile technician iu1mx********* since 1989 *. *. ********.

66 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

While driving my brake pedal got very soft and moved almost to the floor, I immediately pulled into a parking lot and watch under my truck for a puddle. I located the leak on the drivers side rear hard brake line just before the rubber hose connection. Due to the advanced corrosion of the brake lines and their fragility it seems prudent to replace all the lines at the same time due to the failure of the one.

68 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2013

To whom it may concern at gm, where do I start on the issues at hand on my 2004 Chevrolet silverado? n. I contacted gm on the issue of the rusted out rear brake line, and of course it fell on deaf ears at gm. As you know, I lost my brakes in rush hour traffic after being cut off and almost slamming into the vehicle that cut me off. I had the truck towed, and the bottom line was, it cost me $240. 00 and not to say someone could have been terribly hurt. The fact that I have a 2004 and it is 9 years old doesn'¿¿t change the fact that the brakes rusted out premature. Please note, this rust didn'¿¿t happen overnight I'm sure it started many years ago. So please don'¿¿t tell me about taking pride. Gm should have taken the bull by the horns on this issue (recall) of rusted out brake line, but you chose to bury your heads in the sand hoping it went away.
