1 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2020

At 45,000 mi, had to replace abs hub sensor assy due to false activation. I have since replace 3 more assys costing over $400 each occurance. At 100,000 mi, had to replace a leaking brake line which had rusted through and at 120,000 mi lost all hyd pressure while braking to avoid several deer entering the roadway. Replaced all brake lines at a cost of $1200. There have been many consumer complaints on both issues, but gm will not assume responsibility for either. This is the 9th silverado I have owned over the past 40 years. Next one will be a Ford.

2 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2013

The brakes on my truck take forever to work. I have replaced the abs sensor and bearing and fuse and the lights continue to come on after I drive a mile after strting it up. This is very scary. If I needed to stop suddenly it would cause a crash. I have researched and I am not the only one with this problem. Please do a recall. Chevy has already done a recall for the same break system for the 00' to '05 silverado. This has potentiona to hurt my family and maybe someone elses.

3 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

I was following my girlfriend in my truck & when coming to a slow stop at less than 5mph, my trucks abs started to activate on dry road conditions causing me to bump into her car! no real damage occurred to either of our vehicles but after researching this known gm problem with their abs systems and their wheel sensors, it's obvious that gm knows of these issues for years in their trucks!! I've taken my truck into the dealership where I bought it brand new in 2006 and they told me that it was my problem to get it fixed!! I replaced the drivers side wheel bearing after it failed in 2010 with a gm wheel bearing and their service tech told me that gm would replace it for free but yet they hold no responsibility for the original gm wheel bearings!! this is a disaster waiting to happen to all gm truck owners!.

4 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while attempting to decelerate, the brakes failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the brake sensor had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was unavailable. Mh.

5 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2011

At low speeds when coming to a stop, the abs will activate for no reason. Apart from being an annoyance, this also causes a longer stopping distance which poses a hazard if there is another vehicle in front of you. The right sensor was replaced in 3/2011 and the left sensor was replaced in 11/2012. It seems odd that both would fail and judging by the number of complaints for the same issue listed on here and multiple other websites, I think it's time for gm to step up and admit a continued problem with this. There was a recall for this issue up to 2002, I think it's time it is extended.

6 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2011

Abs sensor(s) operate when slowing to a stop regardless of road conditions. This initially happened only occasionally but now is nearly constant and repair is needed. Gm dealer initially had no clue of what was happening but also found play in right front hub, internet search shows many drivers with same problems in sensors and hubs but no recall from gm. Why?.

7 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

While trying to stop vehicle, while brake pedal engaged, brakes released and lost braking power, continuing to go forward with very limited ability to stop the vehicle. Stopping of vehicle was achieved by continuing multiple times to re-engage the brakes each time the brakes released and lost power. Dealership inspected and tested the brakes. They found both front abs sensors dropping out due to the same problem as the Chevrolet recall for silverado models up to year 2002, corrosion in the braking system. They followed the procedure outlined in the recall. Because my 2006 was not in the recall, I paid $165 for the work. I contacted Chevrolet and they will not reimburse my expense unless they extend the recall. An internet search reveals other owners of silverados manufactured after 2002 are also having the problem. Nhtsa should be pushing Chevrolet to extend the recall because it is a very dangerous problem and it's not isolated to just a few vehicles.

8 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2009

2006 chevy silverado [only 20k miles] 16k abs activation at low speed - dealer replaced rotors, pads, sensors 18k low speed accident - suspect abs problems 20k abs activation at low speed - grinding noise several occasions of poor stopping response during ownership.

9 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. During brake application the abs system engaged without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The front abs sensor were cleaned and then replaced at an expense of $270. 00. The failure mileage was 43,642.

10 Brake Sensor problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2008

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving 5 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the abs activates on its own and increases the stopping distance. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer a few times, where it currently remains. The dealer stated that the abs sensor has corroded and needs to be replaced. The manufacturer will not replace the sensor for free, even though there is a recall for a different year of the same make and model vehicle. The sensor has not yet been replaced, but the contact believes that his vehicle should be included in the recall. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 51,000.
