Carrier/rack problems of the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - part 1

When I was driving on the 405 freeway my dash board started to crack and has been cracking pieces of the dash have fallen down by my feet brake pedal area . The dash is slowly getting worse and scares me.

Dashboard is cracked in different areas. Also when I took the truck to get a recall fixed (takata airbag) the dealer cracked it in 2 different areas. I complained to dealership but they refuse to replace it.

Factory paint defect on roof, some rust from center roof light area,also cracked dashboard.

Excessive cracking and breaking apart of the upper plastic dash. Pieces of the dash have broken free and fallen down behind the dash. This is not a result of a collision but the result of fault materials utilized in the dash design. I don't have a specific date or miles, the excessive cracking and breaking apart has happened during normal driving.

The dash is cracked and could become a safety hazard if air bags were deployed.

In 2018 dashboard cracked. While stationary and over time. In 2019 stability indicator remained on. While driving truck.

Dash broken and cracked in multiple places.

Takata recall I received a letter stating my truck had was on the takata airbag recall list. The dealership says it is not. Also the dashboard had a crack that has now developed in missing pieces and exposing the inside of the dash and I am worried it will affect the integrity of the airbags. In doing research I saw where several 2007-2013 Chevrolet silverados and tahoes had bee recalled for cracking dashboard. I am very concerned about sharp plastic flying out from dash. Photo attached.

Cracked dash. Read that this is a common problem in Chevrolet's of this time frame. Dash has never had anything thrown, bounced, set, etc on it. No reason for this other than poor design and construction.

My vehicle has 8 or so cracks in the dashboard. Two of which are by the passenger airbag which creates a safety hazard meaning if the airbag were to deploy fragments of the dash could impair one sitting in the passenger seat or others in the vehicle. I would like something done about this issue. I have talked with my local dealer and general motors twice about this concern and no actions were taken. When I bought the vehicle there was only the one crack near the corner of the airbag and has since gotten worse.

The dash has cracked in 2 places one being right against the air bag so if it deploys that part of the dash could hurt someone its a big safety concern.

My dash has cracked near the passenger airbag. I had it replaced 2 years ago for the same crack and now the new one is cracked.

I entered my truck and found a crack in my dash running from the vents all the way over my instrument panel. The next day, my airbag light went on telling me they needed servicing. Yesterday I was driving over some pot holes in a road and a big chunk of my dash cracked and jumped out onto my dash. After getting home, I see there is another crack on my dash. Before calling a dealer, searched to find out what was going on. I found the crack and the sensor were related and other have been having the same problem and no recall yet. What?? that chunk that flew out is as sharp as a razor. It could have cut me or landed in my eye causing injury. How can I drive the car knowing the whole dash could shatter at any time? I don't have the money to fix this issue. It should be recalled and fixed by gm!!.

"takata recall" since I was informed about this problem may 27 2016, I have been to dealership. Still nothing has been done except given explanation parts are not available. Is this recall for real or is gm giving people the run around? there are cracks in dash. There is one at the corner of the passenger air bag and now there are two over the steering wheel and cluster. Have been told cracks can not be fixed until the air bag problem is fixed. What do I do? can not win.

Dash cracking in 2 places. Could affect airbag deployment.

The dash board gm part # 19331340. Has multiple cracks throughout its body. I have contacted gm . They say that there is nothing that they will do. I recently received a recall notice for the airbags as well.

My dashboard is cracking in pices especially were the pasager air bag is located my concern is if the air bag is need it maybe get stock or if gets activated my pasager can get hurt by flying sharp plastic pices plus wen I am driving I am geting distracted for all the moving parts on my dashboard I am doing this report because my truck is very low on miles and I think is a defective part of the building process.

Dash cracked above the passenger airbag on its own. If I get into an accident and the airbag deploys there will be shards of plastic shooting everywhere.

Dash is cracked in many places, most concerning is around the air bag. If airbag was to deploy, pieces of plastic could potentially be dangerous! the vehicle is kept in the garage most of its life. Dash cracks while driving or parked. Getting worse and accelerating as time goes on.

No crash incident. The dashboard on the vehicle has cracked for no reason in multiple locations. One right near the airbag and the safety concern is the airbag will not deploy properly in case of collision which could lead to severe injury. This is a major problem with thousands of gm vehicles suffering from the same issues. Gm is ignoring the problem and refusing to cover repairs because no recall has been issued. How can a recall be issued if they are denying and covering up the problem. Please remember this is a safety issue first and foremost.

My dash has a couple cracks in it.

Have 3 cracks in dashboard. 2 above driver side instrument cluster, and 1 on passenger side next to passenger airbag. Had piece of dash break off and fall inside dashboard assembly. Gm only wants to compensate up to 20% to have this replaced. I believe that gm should be replacing these at their cost due to the number of complaints of this happening. Feel that this could be a safety issue if I were to get into a wreck, and pieces of the dashboard break off.

Dash board is cracking and brittle. Very sharp edges on the plastic could become a hazard during a wreck. Contacted gm and since the vehicle isn't under warranty, there isn't anything they could do. Takata recall: vehicle is under recall, but gm says it is safe to drive. Then why is it under a recall?.

My dash is cracked in several places. This is a defect and should be recalled. I got in it one day and noticed it had cracked overnight. After searching the internet about this problem, I found this to be common defect and gm should be made to step up and fix it.

Dash has cracked in several places across the whole upper area. It has been garaged or covered 60% of the time since I bought new in 2007.

Dashboard cracked/cracking in several locations. I first noticed about two years ago, but did not know of this website or know it to be a nationwide issue until read on news to report if happening to a vehicle.

I first noticed cracks in my dash located by the passenger airbag in 2013 and has increasingly gotten worse over the years. Now I have another crack that developed on the driver side by the instrument cluster. I do not know the cause of the cracks. I have maintained my vehicle to a high standard. Never involved in auto accident. Possible material fatigue. My concern is if the passenger air bag deploys the dash could cause shrapnel to cause bodily harm.

Driving down the road and noticed a crack all of a sudden show up on my dash near the passenger air bag. Not exactly sure what time of day it was or exactly where or when it happened.

In July, 2012 the dash in my truck cracked around the airbag. I contacted gm where they told me it was my fault and cleaning products caused it. They would only cover the cost of the part, but not labor which was more than the cost of the product. I refused telling them it was their issue as there are lots of complaints about it. It was later proven that cleaning products do not cause the cracks. I asked gm again to replace the dash after seeing people have been injured from pieces of the dash after an accident. Gm still claims there is no safety issues with the dash. That has been proven false and there are 10s of thousands of these trucks with the issue.

Dash cracked at end of 2010,dealer replaced dash,then 2 years later it cracked again ,dealer sail out of warrantee since then it has more cracks,truck is garage kept in like new condition with only 62100 miles,what is the problem very poor part design,also car has never been in accident.

The dash is cracked and a huge piece of the dash has fallen into the dash area. These dashes are dangerous! the crack is also affecting the passenger airbag.
