The passenger side airbag dash cover is cracked and makes we worried the heat and weather will make the air bag inflate unnecessarily.
As thousands of other gm customers. Cracked dashboard with the split by the passenger side air bag. When deployed dash could potentially shatter.
Traveling under 10 mph in neutral, both side air curtains deployed. Traveling on dirt road. No pot hole, rock or bump involved. No warning of deployment.
Cracked dashboard by passenger side air bag. My concern is if the air bag is deployed will it cause the dash to shatter causing more injury. I had the same crack in the same place on my 201 3 tahoe but I have traded it in. It seems that there a major issue with multiple Chevrolet vehicles similar to mine.
The dashboard immediately surrounding the case holding the passenger side airbag in my 2009 chevy silverado is cracked and broken in three (3) different places, including two (2) corners. I was advised this is a common issue in gm trucks, and that it is a structural integrity issue that could cause airbag deployment without accident. I was advised that since our truck is part of the takata recall to have our airbags turned off, especially since the dash holding the airbag is broken and damaged. Three-way Chevrolet in bakersfield, CA refuses to turn the airbag off, even after agreeing the cracked and broken dashboard poses an inherent safety risk by compromising the already defective airbags.

Takata recall. I have a 2009 Silverado 1500 lt 4x4. My vehicle is impacted by the passenger side airbag recall with takata. I have been waiting for over 2 years for a resolution and have gotten nowhere other than receiving a letter that takata had filed for bankruptcy. This issue is extremely frustrating! it is dangerous for anyone to ride in the passenger seat of my vehicle and nobody is doing anything about it. I call and speak to gm and they say they feel confident that my truck is safe yet people are filing injury claims against gm because their airbags are causing them harm. I need this issue resolved!.
Vehicle was parked for the day while I worked. Entered and started vehicle, the vehicle message center indicated "service airbags" message. The message would come and go which made it difficult for the dealer to determine the problem. In November of 2013 the service airbag message stayed on, took vehicle in and had the front passanger side airbag sensor replaced. This resolved the problem. One month later (December 2013) the same thing happened and it turned out to be the front drivers side airbag sensor. Had the sensor replaced, resolved the problem.
My dash board is cracked and getting worse as the crack grows. The crack is behind the passenger side airbag and will cause the airbag to deploy in an unsafe maner and also cause extra debrie to fly around when the airbag does deploy due to the faulty dash that affects 2007-2013 gm trucks and SUV's.
The contact owns a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact was driving 40 mph when he drove over a pothole and both side curtain air bags deployed independently. The failure caused damage to the seat belts, the headliner and the ceiling light. The contact also stated that there was a powdery residue inside the vehicle, which was expelled from the air bags. A police report was available. The manufacture was contacted and the contact was advised that an engineer could inspect the vehicle within ten days and the results would become available within 120 days of inspection. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 38,000.
