Slow crank, and theft deterrent system comes on while driving and you loose power to the vehicle and stalls outs while in motion, bad negative battery cables are to blame from all our research on this vehicle from multiple online videos it is common for this year, make, model. It happened to us while driving on a highway luck was on our side and no one was around us.

Trucks electrical system will flash and blink and shut down the truck this has happened to me while driving at night on the highway it is very dangerous. Also research I have done shows there is a bunch of people having this problem and they have found that a ground has factory insulation in between the ground and the nut.

Using a signal for lane changes causes cruise control to disengage, suspension messages and air bag failure messages as well as tire failure icon would all come on and when leaving the exit ramp and decelerating the engine would die and system would lock up without ability to steer. So dangerous. Then next trip all is good but the engine failing while driving has happened a half dozen times. The last incident was another engine failure during an exit from the interstate in November.

On October 29, 2022, I auto-started my 2014 silverado on a chilly morning. I got in the vehicle approximately 5 minutes later and turned on the ignition. As soon as I turned on the ignition I heard what sounded like a gunshot and I smelled electrical burning. I then realized that the passenger side of my back sliding window had shattered. The rear defroster also smelled like an electrical fire. Upon doing research I found that this is a known issue in the 2014-2019 silverado's which I was never notified about. I purchased the vehicle used in March of 2021 from basil Chevrolet in fredonia, NY. There is currently a full recall in canada because of the dangerous issue but not in the united states. I reached out to the dealership and Chevrolet but they refuse to do anything about it. I have yet to have the back window replaced and it is taped up but available for examination.

The rear window defogger caught fire. It caught fire while parked next to a gas pump after using the auto start. If it had happened while driving down the road it could've caused a bad accident. It shattered the window as well so I've had to tape the back window which is limiting my view when driving. The dealership I bought it from knows about the issue. Gm has already recalled 160,000 trucks for the same reason in canada but never issued a recall for any us trucks. Nobody has inspected the component yet as I have not had the money to replace it but it is in the same state/condition it was in after the fire. There were no warning lights or symptoms. The rear window defogger comes on every time the remote start is used. I've used the remote start plenty of times before, luckily I was close to the truck when it happened to catch fire this time or the truck may have caught fire and burned completely. I want to point out the fact that gm has already issued a recall for the exact same problem I had but only for canada trucks. They said they were investigating to see if there were any in the us that were sold but clearly there were.

The power steering went out without warning. The power steering system failed without warning during operation. There was a recall for this in 2017 but my VIN number is not included in this recall.

Tcm failed. Caused vehicle to no longer shift through drive gears while operating. After stopped no longer able to start vehicle. Appears to be common as a result replacement parts re not available.

Dash lights flicker, head lights flicker, loses electrical power randomly, loses power steering at low speeds and electrical power.

As I was picking up my child from school my steering wheel and ac stopped working my steering wheel got locked. I was putting everyone’s life at risk because I wasn’t able to make a turn . We’ve been searching everywhere and it seems it’s a recall .

For several years now, I have been receiving the notification service: trailer brake. I typically try to dismiss it, but on occasion, it will continue to pop up over and over and over and over again. I have driven this vehicle since it's original purchase and have never even used the trailer brake. (even though it's been titled twice - I purchased it from the company I work for. ) thankfully it has not caused any accidents. Just an annoyance. But I have been reading online that some owners have been unable to operate their vehicles due to this issue. This is not a daily driver vehicle but today was the most recent episode with the warning. I drove maybe a couple of miles total and it chimed and notified me approximately 20 times in this short distance. I looked on youtube and there are countless owners that have this same problem. It is definitely a distraction to the driver and could potentially cause a very serious accident.

Trailer brake system keep coming on it is starting to become unbearable and I can barely drive my truck, it comes on at least 20 times while I’m driving on a day so over 100 times in a week.

Steering assistance failed during slow speed turn into side street. Vehicle stalled with no power to steer or brake. Engine turned off allowing vehicle to dead stick accross two lanes of traffic for opposite direction. Vehicle came to rest in parking lot nearby. Had there been vehicles in those lanes an accident would have occurred. Dash board monitor gives signals that "stability track" off and check engine have issues. In August of 2017 received recall letter from gm citing problem with eps (electric power steering). Took vehicle to serpentini chevy on August 13th 2017 and they reprogramed eps module. Milage at this time was 20,085. They did not charge for repair. In 2017 my vehicle had no symptoms of recall. Now in 2022 this eps problem is happening with milage 54,000 twice almost causing mva.

When I slow down and turn my truck suddenly losses power steering. Everything turns off for a second and then comes back on. And I get a notice on the dash that I lost power.

Stabilitrak light and engine light comes on causing vehicle to lose power, steering wheel locks up, lights flicking on and off, and time engines shut off. . . This is an hazard while driving vehicle on highway road and regular streets especially.

I almost got in a wreck this morning. I turned down a street lost power, brakes and steering all at once. This has been happening ever since I bought this truck. Thank god the vehicle behind me was traveling at a safe distance. The system says I have no recalls but I continue to read issues involving total loss of power on 2014 chevy silverado‘s? what’s it gonna take for chevy to own this mistake?.

It has an electrical issue that I have read is a consistent problem with the 2014 Chevrolet silverado that is apparently a grounding issue that causes the battery to surge at intermittently after 2+ hours of driving and dash lighting flickers, cuts off cruise control if in use, media and cabin functions disappear altogether in some instances but most importantly, due to the subsequent surge followed by an immediate draining of the battery, the power steering and steering assist becomes disabled especially at low speeds when making any type of turn creating a hazard to the vehicle, it's occupants, and surroundings due to the suddenness of it happening leaving very little reaction time for the driver to recognize and correct their course speed and obstacles due to the fact that the steering gives substantial resistance when trying to turn the steering wheel. ***(speed description below indicates the issue presents itself and happens randomly to where the speed at the time of each occurrence isnt an attributing factor) but the number of incidents multiply and become more prominent and hazardous the longer the vehicle is driven in a single start/stop drive as issue starts to spread into affecting more and more systems and functions especially after 4 hours and over where it could cause a collision and/or injury.

For months now wire harness part number 842-909-97, rear driver side passenger door wire harness. Wire and connector damage from being poorly manufactured, wire cracking and breaking apart. Waiting for new item availability, can't operate door locks, window. Dashboards light stay on. No dealership or parts supplier in country has any availability or previous part number to replace. Waiting on general motors to bring new wire harness to market. No eta and item is listed as backorder . Been an issue for years now. I can't open my back door in fear of not being able to lock the door and have trouble light stay off. I have a three-door vehicle now instead of four. Truck is barley 10 years old. Cost a lot of money for this vehicle.

The trailer brake warning has began to beep almost nonstop at times whether trailering or not. Even sitting in the driveway.

The contact owns a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the brake pedal was depressed down to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle slowed down and came to a stop with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The failure occurred on 4 separate occasions. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the contact replaced the brake pads. The contact stated that on another occasion, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle lost motive power, the steering wheel locked, and lost functionality. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle and the vehicle returned to normal functionality. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on another occasion while driving 55 mph, the a/c stopped functioning as intended. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a coolant leak. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.

My truck has 143282 miles. Approximately 6may2022 I started receiving a “trailer brake system” warning message on my dash accompanied by an audible alarm. Two days later after towing a trailer (now with no or intermittent brake control) I had numerous warning lights for the transmission and fuel systems that was diagnosed by wheelers Chevrolet (in coloma, WI) as a high pressure fuel pump failure. The trailer brake warning still exists and was diagnosed as corroded wires at the trailer brake control module. This should not be occurring as all of these connections are sealed by o-rings. The “service trailer brake system” warning still occurs at start-up as well as while driving even when no trailer is being towed or connected. This becomes distracting, and is causing other systems on my truck to fail when they should not be. This is beyond a safety concern and should have some serious investigation done.

Sudden loss of power in vehicle, causing loss of power steering for a split second and display screens to turn off and on. Service trailer brake and steering assist lights came on. Has happened multiple times and always on highway. Power steering also malfunctions when parking.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed with the cruise control activated, the turn signal was activated, causing the cruise control to inadvertently deactivate. Additionally, the warning light failed to illuminate while the high-beam headlights were illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was not able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer however, the mechanic was unable duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14v614000 (electrical system) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 72,300.

During low speed turning the vehicle loses power steering, the ac powers off and on, the stablitrac warning blinks on and off and the radio cycles on and off. This is a known recall for 2014 chevy silverados however gm says it was repaired before I bout my truck 3 years ago and wont cover it to be repaired again this has happened multiple times in the last 2 weeks and is increasing in frequency.

Whenever I connect my trailer to the truck, I get a "check trailer wiring" message on my dash and a dinging sound. The trailer is new, but I returned it to the dealer, and they tore it down to the frame to check the wiring. Several diagnostics were run on the truck and the truck connector was changed, and yet the dinging persisted. Finally, hendricks Chevrolet in durham, nc was able to fix the problem, but only temporarily. After 4,000 miles the dinging resumed. I cannot pull my trailer with my truck safely; I would have to drive without brakes and lights. And now I am stranded in California at my sister's home, two days' drive from my new home in CO, and no way to pull the trailer. This has been an ongoing issue that chevy has ignored. Chevy wants another diagnostic run, even though the diagnostics come back clear. I asked the chevy team member on the call who can fix a chevy if chevy cannot. He had no answer.

The 2014 and up Chevrolet Silverado 1500 models are notorious for electrical issues and bugs, some may have been recalled but other were not included in that recall while still having the same issues, these vehicles have major electrical system issues, from bad battery cables, down to every control module associated with the truck, over time salt, sand, mud, moisture disrupts certain key areas of the electrical wiring harness underneath the vehicle, general motors knows about this but fails to recall these vehicles, it creates a very serious matter when you have no traction control, or any abs function, along with loss of power steering assist. These control systems can be life and death when they are not working!. Gm needs to address these issues and recall all 2014+ silverado’s and alike for these electrical issues relating to “loss of communication with the ecm, bcm, tcm, ebcm, tccm, pscm, etc. These are costly break downs and these modules are very expensive to just throw in and hope it fixes the issue, most dealers don’t want to trace wiring issues and will just tell the customer cannot replicate which leaves us vulnerable. Some customers state their vehicles will randomly shut off while driving, others report their truck going into “limp home mode”. Nobody can seem to centralize a specific area where the problems are occurring but believe it has something to do with the material and the way the harness was made.

At very slow speed (under 1 mph) the steering is unmanageable to turn, even if truck stopped and its required to make a relatively sharp turn. Seems the power steering stops working & airbag warning light turns on as well as parking assist stops working. Very dangerous!! also when the temperature is under 30°f the dash/ display screen go black when I attempt to use the side window switches.

Service trailer brake system repeatedly shows up blocking information screen and distracting me from driving with its chime and message.

There is a complete loss of power so there is no way to start the truck. Here in north dakota the wind chills go to fifty degrees below zero. It is life threatening when the truck won't start. Up to this point it has happened only when the vehicle is parked. The gm dealer has seen the truck, but it is a random problem and can't be "replicated" in the shop. The shop manager has seen the security symbol on the dash board and cleared it with the computer. When it happened this week in minus wind chills I called the dealer, and he suggested that I put the key in and let it sit for ten minutes! nothing happened. When my husband caught a ride to help me, he wiggled the battery connection and the whole system turned on. The security anti theft device light had gone on while driving, but the book said to take it to a dealer!.

While driving down the road a service alert comes up on the dash advising "service trailer brake system". This alert is extremely distracting and will not go away while hitting the "dismiss" button. To my knowledge the trailer brake system on this vehicle has never been used. Gm shoukd take full responsibility of this problem and issue a recall. Failure to do so could result in future vehicle accidents from people being distracted from this obnoxious alarm from a faulty part. I would supply a picture or video of the alarm but using my camera while driving would only add to the already present danders associated with this issue. Thanks for your time.

My truck loss of electric power steering it shuts off especially during low speed turning maneuvers. Lost and then returns then might lose temporary control of the steering wheel, increasing the risk of a crash. I have made an appointment at my dealership .

Started it this morning with remote start (not after market) to warm it up and when I went out there the cab was full of smoke and the back window was glowing red with flames emerging. I extinguished fire and turned it off and the back window shattered.

Trailer brake control. Trailer brake module. Trailer wiring. All having issues warning comes up to check trailer brake wiring when there is no trailer connected.

While driving on I-70 between cincinnati OH and louisville ky at night, I switched high beams and the instrument panel, headlights, flickered off and on as the truck momentarily lurched. I stopped at gas station and shut truck off and when I tried to restart there was a complete loss of power. Under the hood I wiggled the blue connector to this box located on top of the battery (I think it is some kind of fusible link with two harnesses and other wires coming off of it. I then tried the key fod and remote started the truck. I was able to get home that night but every time I would use passing lights the lurching and momentary power loss would occur. When I used the turn signal to turn on my street I lost all power and almost hit another car due to loss of steering and brakes - I wiggled the blue connector again on that fusible link box and was able to secure the vehicle. As I look at google and gm truck links I am seeing a large population of complaints on this issue that include possible grounding issues where a rubber grommet is being employed between the grounding strap and body, grounding wire in contact with passenger side header, and a number of other electrical issues. Gm seems to be aware of the issue since they have a number of service bulletins addressing the issues (they instruct technicians not to change parts unless the issue is replicated) and I am concerned at the large number of these gm's possibly affected and the spread of year models noted.

The truck wouldn’t start, after jumping the battery and commencing our drive the truck would intermittently hit breaks with foot lightly on accelerator. Engine power is reduced showed on screen. Trailer break system warning. Upon doing research online, it it a failure due to the trailer wiring harness. (example of error off of youtube https://youtu. Be/g2ojtytqisk ) dealership has told us they cannot fix it under warranty although it is a faulty part from the factory. Truck is completely undrivable/unsafe to operate and we are having to pay for rental car. 56000 miles and they are not honoring power train warranty.
