7 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2019

My truck is showing signs of the defective vacuum pump. Problem was sparatic and noticed it shortly after purchasing the truck with 95,000 miles on it. Now at 105,000 miles it started happening more frequently so I researched it. Randomly at slow speeds like pulling into a parking spot or my driveway or easing up at a stop light in traffic the brakes lose all power assist. It feels like the abs is kicking in and the truck just keeps rolling. It takes about all the force you can give to get the truck to stop. Will be bringing the truck into chevy this weekend. Was hoping for a recall before I had to dish out the money since it does seem to be an extremely unsafe premature brake system failure with no warning until the truck does not stop.

9 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2019

I was entering a structure parking at low speed when I needed to stop to give the right of way for cross traffic , at this time I proceeded to put my foot on the brake and the brake would not allow me to stop. (the brake pedal became stiff and it would not allow me to press it down). Luckily I did not strike the vehicle crossing and at this point I was using my emergency brake. I further realized my truck was no longer stopping on demand, but more of rolling to a stop. I contacted a local dealer and they said they couldn't help me because they were busy which I think is unaccepatable I would have to wait over a week to take my truck in for this service. Brake failure should be a priority for any automotive dealer. My truck has about 33500 miles and I have maintained and serviced it properly.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Brake assist vacuum pump fails. Special bulletin issues with warranty extension. What gm is failing to tell people, braking does not simply become difficult at low speeds, brakes fail at normal speeds. Vehicle in motion at highway speeds, eventually able to get it stopped after extreme extension of normal braking distance. After suggested warranty repair I continue to experience intermittent issues.

13 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2019

I have been complaining of a braking issue since I purchased my truck in 2015 and have had them inspected at several chevy dealerships, stonebriar Chevrolet n frisco, huffines Chevrolet in lewisville. We have moved and I took into today and now that the truck is out of warranty I'm being told I have a faulty vacuum pump that could cause my brakes to fail. The dealer, peters Chevrolet in longview, also states unforuntely he cannot see my service records to confirm the previous brake checks which is ridiculous. This is a known issue and gm is taking no accountability in this and demanding a change of $600 to replace. Please help.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

Brake failure , while pulling into or out of a parking spot , brakes lose pressure and become very stiff and stop working. The message went away after sustained continuous driving without braking when the vacuum system was able to recover.

17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

Brake failure at low speed. While sitting in stop and go traffic, the brake pedal reacts as if the vehicle isn't running. Pedal seems high and hard then soft and low. Vehicle will stop with extreme pressure on pedal.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2019

Brakes fail at low speed. Problem diagnosed by Chevrolet dealer and determined to be the same problem as outlined in Chevrolet technical service bulletin pit5361b. Gm not covering repair as they claim nothing is wrong and the vehicle is out of warranty.

19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2019

I've experienced the same issues that numerous people are reporting and also received the letter from chevy/gm in regards to the brake failure at slow speeds. I've had this issue occur at least 3 times in the last couple of years. Didn't realize it was as big of a known problem until conducting additional research. Want to ensure my voice is heard/known in the larger complaint that is developing. A recall should be issued. This is a scary situation when this occurs. Simply turn off truck and start it up again and the immediate problem goes away. However the issue occurs without any warning and could definitely lead to an accident.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2019

Driving newly purchased 2015 chevy Silverado 1500 at 35-45 mph on freeway (which has a 65 mph speed limit). Traffic ahead was slowing down, and the brakes were pressed, speed was reduced, but when the cars in front (with at least 5 car lengths of space ) suddenly stopped, and I slammed the brakes, the brakes failed. I tried and tried pressing the brakes, but the truck didn't stop, and I rear-ended the vehicle in front of me, which ended up rearing the vehicle ahead of it, and so forth. Due to the brakes not responding, I was unable to stop like the rest of traffic, and thus, caused an accident. (note: the weather and road conditions were fine, not went road, as stated on police report. ).

The vehicle was repaired and the vacuum pump was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle did not qualify for the manufacturer's brake vacuum pump replacement because the mileage exceeded 72,000. The manufacturer provided case number: 95212761589. The failure mileage was 94,000.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2019

On two occasions in the past week my brake pedal has become extremely stiff at low speeds and caused the brakes to fail. The first incident occurred as I approached a stop sign on a busy city street. My brake pedal became stiff and the brakes would not stop the vehicle. Causing me to roll into the path of another vehicle. I managed to stop and the other vehicle avoided me. The second incident occurred this morning as I backed into my drive way. As I attempted to stop my pedal became stiff and the brakes would not function properly. Despite stand on the brake pedal I was unable to stop my vehicle before it struck my utility trailer. Thankfully no damaged occurred. I contacted the parts department at mission Chevrolet in el paso, texas and was advised the part is in heavy demand and will be unavailable for 7 to 10 business days.

Brake vacuum pump failed while on the freeway causing brake pedal to be unresponsive almost causing major accident. This is listed as under investigation. There was no warning or light. Brake pedal instantly became stiff and could not be pressed down. Chevrolet fixed this by replacing only the pump. It's recommended the vacuum lines and brake booster be replaced too due to potential oil leakage which states will cause pump to fail again. Chevy did not replace additional parts for me.

27 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2018

Purchased used 2015 silverado ltz with 87k miles on 12/1/2018 from dealer. On 12/2/2018 while backing out of parking space for first time, brake pedal would only move 1/4 inch with great effort (80-100lbs effort), and only applied enough braking force to stop truck moving 2 mph over 5 or 6 feet. Was able to immediately recreate problem moving forward while under 5-6mph, each time taking roughly 10-12 feet to stop with great braking effort. Problem occurred again 12/3 after a short trip (3 miles, 40mph) while slowly backing into parking space. Put truck in drive and the brake problem persisted. Backed up again, problem persisted. Maximum braking force would not stop truck from rolling down 7% grade from dead stop. Maximum braking force will absolutely not stop truck in stop-and-go traffic when this problem occurs again. **** must drive in far right or left lane to ensure space to swerve into when brakes fail to avoid collision. **** extreme safety hazard - will cause accidents, injuries & property damage. This needs to be a recall ASAP.

28 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

Just experienced brake failure while backing into parking space at low speed truck has just turned 40,000 miles. Brake pedal was hard to depress as if the ignition was turned off. Not the case engine was running and brakes were applied with extreme pressure and finally was able to stop vehicle before I bounced off of curb. I understand Chevrolet is aware of this and there is some class action law suits out there. A TSB has been issued but, from all the forums I have read this does not correct the problem. I will take into dealership as soon as possible if it don't kill me first. Help.

29 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2018

Vacuum pump. My vacuum pump went out as I was driving home on the highway. Every few presses of the brake pedal it would go all the way to the floor and it took much longer to stop. It was scary and I am very thankful I didn't get in a wreck. I got it fixed at my Chevrolet dealer. The cost for repair was $600. Worst part is my vehicle, a 2015, ony had 27,000 miles on it. Still feels new and the brakes failed.

31 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2018

Brakes failed exactly as described in Nov 26 consumer report article and exactly as currently being investigated by NHTSA. Brakes failed while in motion at our local transfer station (dump) while turning - backing up and pulling forward. Brakes failed when the trucks rpm fell below 800 rpm and the vacuum assist failed. The vehicle was difficult to stop and I am a large man. Have copy of repair bill from dealer dated 10/03/18. Dealer was familiar with the issues and had serviced other Chevrolet vehicles with the same problem. Contacted Chevrolet div/gm. Made a call, send and -mail and wrote a letter. No response to letter or e-mail asking for a refund. Received a call in response to my call. Chev rep stated they had no knowledge of the problem. ?? told the caller than only need to check the internet to find many complaints. Consumer reports that only 111 complaints have been received. I strongly suggest there are many more. I suspect the number of complaints will increase not that the "cat is out of the bag" so to speak. Please insist on a recall I think it will save lives. No need to wait until someone dies.

32 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

My brakes failed to work when I was pulling into my parking lot. It seems to happen intermittently and only at low speeds. The brakes worked again later in the day. The vehicle braking system become rigid at low speed (approx 3mph or so) as if the power brake system fails. The vehicles stopping distance changes and the vehicle continues to roll while pressing the brake pedal toward the floor. This issue resulted in damage to my garage door while backing the vehicle into the driveway. The issue is best described in the pending investigation regarding the gm braking system located under Chevrolet silverado recalls. I was made aware of the investigation after researching the issues I have had with my vehicles brakes. The investigation statement describes the issue as a problem with degrading brake vacuum component.
