1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/17/2023

My purge pump has gone out 3 times. I do not overfill my tank. They have also stated it is due to no lid on the gas tank but this truck is designed without a lid for the tank. The catalytic converter has now gone bad per the dealership. The truck only has 121000 miles on it. I should not be having these kinds of problems. I wanted to report these since the truck is not that old so this may be an issue with others. Since I purchased the truck it has jumped at take off and no one can explain this. The dealer ship also give different answers for things and does not seem to know what could be wrong.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

Fuel tank rupture driving on interstate hwy, towing ~5000lb RV at 60 mph. Never saw road debris, dealer insists it was ruptured tank. Tank is plastic and totally unprotected. Dumped 20-25 gal fuel, lost power, barely got to shoulder and exit vehicle with fuel vapors everywhere. Numerous items could have easily ignited the truck/RV with huge potential for injury/death. Local volunteer fire dept responded. This was memorial day weekend, dangerous traffic, had to arrange towing both the gm truck plus the towed RV. No dealer would loan me a vehicle to tow with. Dealer charged $1500 for repairs (replacement) of a $200 plastic tank. All could have been avoided with a $7. 00 metal cover for the tank.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/25/2018

I purchased this truck used approx. On 10/2016. Shortly afterwards I began to smell gas. I found the fuel lines rusted through and had to replace the fuel lines from the tank to the engine. Last week a brake line failed due to rust pulling up to a stop light. The pedal went right to the floor. A line had to be replaced from the abs pump to the rear axel. I was told at that time the rest of the brake lines were in very poor condition. The cost to repair will exceed the value of the truck.

Don hall Chevrolet inc in ashland, kentucky was made aware of the failure and diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

I have a 2012 silverado that had an engine light go on. Took to the dealer (carbone chevy, yorkville NY) the problem was an air leak in the fuel system. The fix, replace gas tank and sending unit, $900. I asked about the warranty, and I was told past mileage, I'm at 39000. I didn't believe this could be possible that a 4-year-old truck could rot out so soon that there must be a problem with these tanks. I called gm to ask, and the woman could not have cared less just listen to me complain and said she would call the customer experience person at the dealership to contact me. That didn't happen. Also said that the corrosion warranty doesn't cover tanks and it's up to me to pay for this. I spent $36000 on this truck and didn't have a scratch on it but now find out it is rotting through like a tin can. My questions are; should this have been covered or recalled? is there anything you can do to help?.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/17/2016

2800 mileage since new because I have problems fueling the tank. I cannot get fuel to pump into the tank correctly. It's been a problem since I purchased the truck. I've taken it to many different gas stations thinking it was a gas pump issue. The pump handle clicks off when trying to fill the tank. It makes no difference how fast you try to fill the tank or how deep the nozzle is inserted into the tube. I had a Chevrolet service person at the local dealership try to fill the tank to verify my issue. He noticed there is a problem. They checked for a "TSB" and there is one detailing a replacement of the fuel tank. Service advisor stated they would call after getting in the part in 3 days. They never called back. I called back after a week because they never returned my complaint issue. She stated that they cannot get the parts to fix the problem from gm. I do not understand how this is not a recall. I must fill my tank with a gas can to get it to take any gas. A major inconvenience and fuel spillage. I like the truck. I just can't fuel it with a gas pump.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

When fueling vehicle, the pump stops continuously, as the handle shuts off as fuel will not flow into tank. Fuel is unable to flow into tank, so handle shuts off. You have to fuel at only a trickle. You spend twenty minutes to try and fill the vehicle. If the system is for vapor control it has failed because of poor design. You spend seven times more time,, standing around playing with the fueling handle to get some fuel into the system, than a similar vehicle next to you.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that there was a presence of a fuel leak from the top of the fuel tank. The dealer was notified of the failure. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v381000 (air bags), but the parts were not available. The failure mileage was not available. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

While looking over my truck prior to inspection I discovered three cross members totally rusted thru. The are also the main supports for the gas tank and the shocks. I have been trying to find replacement parts and the more I look the more I hear how common the rusted cross members are. I went to the local dealers parts dept. And when I asked for cross members he told me which ones I needed and pointed them out on an illustrated brake down. After the truck bed was removed I noticed the emergency brake cable is rubbing against the plastic gas tank and is just about wore thru the tank to about the thickness of a plastic sandwich bag. The cable has also rubbed against it's support bracket almost all the way thru as well as into the cable.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

Fuel leaking from fuel line near front of gas tank. Upon inspection, fuel line was rotted through. Further inspection by mechanic found fuel and vapor return lines were all corroded and needed to be replaced. A leaking fuel line could cause a fire. All brake lines were replaced two years ago due to corrosion and failure of a brake line while driving due to the corrosion. Chevy dealer refused to repair the broken line, insisting that all brake lines must be replaced due to the corrosion. Rear brake shields have also rotted away, and the differential cover is also rotting. These will also require replacement. None of the corroded parts described here have any kind of coatings to prevent corrosion. Brake and fuel line corrosion are common problems on this model and year, and Chevrolet or NHTSA do not appear to be able or willing to do anything about it.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/01/2004

Purchase new in 2001, around 35,000 miles the fuel light would come on for no reason, even when tank was full. While driving the system light would show low fuel and the fuel gage would show empty. Took to dealer several times and told they couldn't find anything wrong. I was told by a mechanic student at school that the sending unit and wiring was bad. I received a gm notice about the fix but dealer said that wasn't the problem I have 72,000 miles on truck and it stills jumps to empty for no reason.
