2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

Truck was intermittently losing power steering and shutting off/reseting itself. Was a loss of electrical and was throwing stabilitrak service warning. Would not stay on due to truck resetting itself but loss of power happened typically when I was in parking lot or driveway. Could have easily been on the highway which could have been deadly. Dealership found that the battery cables and module were not getting enough power to truck. Replaced these and it seems okay now. Total cost was ~$1200. I see several recalls for battery cable issues but nothing pulling on my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ltz crew cab.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 08/08/2025

Truck experienced reduce power mode. Took to have codes ran and it showed 24 separate codes when engine light comes on. While riding down the road, truck will go into reduce power mode, shift automatically into 4x4, and several other notifications will appear. Taking to dealership and was told the electrical wiring harness was shorting out causing this issue. Cost around $700 for repair, happened one month later, took it back and no charge for the 2nd time. It is currently in reduced power now. Dealership stated to replace the wiring harness would cost over $3,000. Dealership stated this was a manufactures defect, but no recall was issued so all cost is on the owner.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/27/2025

I purchased my truck in December 2018 which is a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4x4 crew cab automatic from servco Chevrolet dealership in waipahu, hawaii and making monthly payments for my truck February of 2019 truck runs good and purchased the warranty also had my oil and service changed when time is due which I always kept up. [xxx] and mileage was 40k while leaving work to go home at a stop light was red once turned green I pushed pedal to go and truck just changed noise tone started to run like rough idle, loud tapping noise coming from the engine, shaking and check engine light came on almost causing me to get into an accident. I pulled on the side and checked what was going on and heard the tapping noise from the motor. So I made an appointment with service department with servco Chevrolet dealership where I bought my truck from and spoke with the service tech for my truck to go in for repairs due to issue. It took 2 to 3 weeks for repairs to be complete and service tech informed me that I'm not the only person to have that issue which had to do with the lifters and camshaft with these motors but gm never came out with any recalls due to how much people has the same motors with the same issue. So luckily it was still covered under warranty but said the problem might come back and would just replace the faulty lifters and camshaft. So in August of 2023 my truck has the same issue but wasn't covered under warranty anymore and mileage is 61k and missed the warranty repairs that was for the lifters which I got it scanned cause check engine light and same issue and code was p0016. So I called servco Chevrolet dealership in waipahu again and spoke with the service technician which he told me I just missed the coverage of the warranty repair and only way to get it fixed I would have to bring it back for them to scan and roughly would range from 4k to 8k to get it fixed. So my truck is parked in my garage and hasn't been moved but paying for truck. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

This truck is locking up momentarily, sometimes at high rates of speed on the interstate. It is very violent and jars the neck of my and my passengers. It leaves tire skid marks on the highway at high rates of speeds. It happens when I slow down or when the truck tries to shift gears. Turns out, gm has a recall for this exact issue, (n242454440) but my VIN is not included for some reason. The chevy dealer has confirmed this issue and is recommending a new transmission. This has been ongoing since July and I am on pins and needles every time I drive this vehicle. Can you please encourage gm to include my VIN in their recall: n242454440, holding me harmless for the repairs?.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/18/2025

On 7 or 8 occasions while navigating parking lots/driveway turnaround, I bumped the resume switch on the steering wheel and the truck took off accelerating rapidly from 2-4 mph speed until I disengaged with the brake. Someone with slower reactions or unaware of what is going on is going to get hurt by this. I believe it's tied to collision avoidance system and the adaptive cruise control mode. This system will allow cruise to stay engaged even as it slows you to a halt in, e. G. A rush hour slowdown, but if it slows you to some speed just greater than zero, and the traffic ahead speeds up, it will speed back up to the cruise setting. Similarly, when cruise is disengaged by brake action, but there is still a stored value in cruise control, if you accidentally hit resume at slow speeds the logic is treating it like a traffic situation. So the old 20 or 25mph minimum engagement speed no longer applies. As for why I inadvertently hit resume, it has to do with the raised momentary rocker switch at the 9 oclock position on the steering wheel. If you make a turn with your palm against steering wheel. For example, on a left turn, if the wheel is turning counterclockwise and your left palm is in the 9 o'clock position, it can rub against the raised cruise control rocker triggering the resume function, and off she will go! a flush or recessed button/switch would have been a better choice here. At this point, a software change would be the best solution to ignore the resume function below a certain speed.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/16/2025

Vehicle started and behaved as expected when leaving my home and for a dozen lights or so between my home and place of the incident. While stopped at a red light, the auto stop function shut the truck down as normal. On re-start when getting green light, after releasing brake pressure, the start up was belabored for two turnovers before starting up. As I pulled off the stop with a green light, the dash lights illuminated and display started rolling through system failures, one of which was the brakes system and esc. I cautiously proceeded through my turn to a thankfully quiet intersection as the brakes were completely unresponsive. I had zero brake function. I was able to slowly come to a rolling stop enough to get the truck in park where I turned it off and back on and the brake function returned. I cautiously drove to the local chevy dealer where I was informed that the battery drain pulls from low voltage when it needs extra power for start up. This is utterly terrifying that it is even possible for the battery to start the truck without any brake function. Had this happened just two lights before or after where I was, it would have been a news headline. I could have easily been headed up and over a bridge leading to a catastrophic event at the bottom where I would have been completely unable to stop my truck by any means other than a collision. I would have preferred a dead battery at a red light. Seems a whole lot safer. I'm now stressed beyond measure at the thought of some failure in the future that could lead to another event such as this. My truck is now a nightmare wondering what electrical malfunction is going to put me and/or my wife and daughter in a life or death situation, let alone others on the road. This shouldn't even be an option for the truck to start at the expense of a critical safety function. Not to mention there is no function for the auto start stop system to be deactivated permanently by my choice. I am beside myself and scared to drive.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

1. The components that failed were the transmission because the vehicle was driving and continued to slow down until it came to a complete stop gradually, and had to be pushed home. And also, there was an issue with the doors unlocking on their own and all windows rolling down by themselves. 2. The safety risk was the issues that happened without any knowledge of any issues at all with the vehicle. And the vehicle could have stopped on the highway, and another vehicle could have run into it, and it could have been a very bad incident. And with the doors unlocking and the windows rolling on their own could be exposed to unsafe environments and possibly theft of the vehicle or harm to the occupants. 3. Had a scan done, which showed the issues that were going on with the vehicle 4. I haven't had a chance to have it taken to the manufacturer because it broke down, and I was waiting for some help to get these issues repaired from the manufacturer. And needed from acc. 5. There wasn't no indicators or lights on when this happened? I was told by a coworker about the windows being down, and with further investigations, I found the doors were unlocked as well, which was done automatically without my control.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/04/2025

When a check engine light is on it's for a low voltage on the charge air coolant sensor, took to the chevy dealer, they replaced a connector to the sensor, at a cost of $600 never got off lot, light returned, they then said I need a new engine wiring harness at a cost of $10. 000, the dealership said this is a problem with these trucks and gm knows about it but won't recall them. Now I'm struck with a 5-year-old truck that I can't use, when this light is on, I also receive an emission system warning, and the truck deregulates and goes in limp mode. As speed is reduced it becomes dangerous to drive in traffic, as gm knows about this, they should recall these trucks and fix the problem, they even say it's because cutting corners on the wiring harness cover causes this problem. As a senior living on a fixed income there's no way my wife or I can get this repaired, so were forced to drive it in limp mode until it dies on us, hopefully not in heavy traffic.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 06/02/2025

Truck goes into limp mode several times… fuses pop when it does. . It does it when I drive or hit any slight bump.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 05/11/2025

Transmission is changing out very hard in each gear. On tonight while I was driving, I lost speed on the interstate and when I push the accelerator, it was like back wheels were locked up. I left it at the next exit gas station and came back and towed it home. Lucky I was able to put hazard lights on and get off the side of the road but it was very slow speed. Yes I have had it look at certified dealer under cheverolet. It was no warning light. I was going 65 and in a split second the rpm went up high and I was doing like 25. Once I finally made it to the gas station and got out the truck smell like a burning smell.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/28/2025

Code p1098 associated with reduced engine power, forced speed reduction and overheating while on the freeway, limiting power and capping speed @ 55 mph. Causing dangerous issues on the highway putting drivers in a dangerous position.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

My husband was driving our family truck onto the highway to merge into traffic, when he lost all engine power, several dash lights turned on, and a clanking noise started. This was an extremely dangerous situation because the truck stalled, while trying speed up into highway traffic. He swerved to avoid cars and pulled off to the right shoulder. This a major safety issue because if either of my teenage daughters had been driving the truck, they would likely not have been able to avoid an accident! mechanics confirmed the truck had suffered a catastrophic engine failure while driving. The dealership confirmed a lifter failed causing the damage. They said the whole engine had to be replaced. Gm offered to pay half of cost, proving they know this is an issue. The truck's not even 5 years old, so the fact that engine would just stop while driving, when we had kept up with regular maintenance, sounded bizarre to me. I researched online and learned of 2 class action lawsuits (CA & mi) claiming gm knows about this defect in their engine and continuing to sell trucks with the same safety issue. Not more than 2 weeks after our incident, hundreds of thousands of the 6. 3l engines were recalled after a NHTSA investigatio. Gm has issued several service bulletins internally on "failing lifters", but has not told the public of the safety hazard. The service bulletins acknowledge the issue, recommending gm mechanics use a lighter oil (sae-0w20 instead of the customary sae-0w40) or change the oil more frequently. (service update n212353840). But car owners don't know this! gm is putting lives at risk, as no one expects their engine to completely give out while on the highway. Thankfully, my husband has been driving for 35 years. Had it been a younger, more inexperienced driver, they would not have been able to recover from the engine failure, especially while merging into high speed traffic - causing a crash, injuries and possibly death. The public deserves to know.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 03/16/2025

My 2020 silverado duramax was at the dealer for recall , next day check engine light came on and rear wheels got locked up , the dealer installed new transmission valve , next day same problem check engine light and rear wheels locked up again, now the dealer said is something to be with a speed sensor and I have to paid for it , my truck was perfectly working before all this recall thing, it’s been 3 weeks now with no transportation, because gm and chevy dealer don’t want to respond or fix this problem with the transmission valve and transmission control module software that was installed my truck was all good before this matter.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

Vehicle message "reduced acceleration drive with care" . My car then ran like it was in 1st gear for my drive home. Next morning couldn't go into reverse so I had to have my buddy help me tow it. Went to the dealer and they said that it's "an ongoing issue with gm that they haven't addressed with several vehicles and the part (valve body) is on backorder with no eta. With this horrible safety issue you would think gm would just take the hit and change out the entire transmission instead of making people wait so long without their vehicles.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 02/18/2025

My truck had a check engine light come on for the transmission 2 months ago and then it went off before it was serviced. They said they couldn’t do anything since the light went off. Then last week I didn’t have reverse and it wouldn’t shift into gear. A week after it had been in the shop they told me the transmission valve body needs to be replaced. Expected date for parts to arrive is 3-10.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The digital gauge cluster where speedometer and other essential gauges for the vehicle failed. It is available upon request. My safety is at risk as I’m unable to determine speed, monitor abs, or monitor other essential features that the guage cluster provides. It also periodically blinks on startling me and putting my life and others in danger. There were no symptoms or messages prior to the part failing.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

I was driving to work from livingston to bozeman and the roads were bad so I was only going about 60 maybe 65 which was reasonable for the conditions this day, and out of nowhere my truck locked up and I slid it directly into the center median.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to shift into drive(d), the vehicle failed to shift or respond as needed. The contact became aware that the vehicle also failed to shift into reverse(r). After restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality and the contacts son was able to shift into drive. The contact stated that while her son was driving 50 mph, the vehicle briefly accelerated independently before returning to normal functionality. A message to "please decelerate and drive with caution" was displayed. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to technical service bulletin: 24na181. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 7,000.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 01/14/2025

Vehicle has less than 35k miles. Vehicle started and operated normally attempted to turn onto main thoroughfare from a stop. While still in drive, vehicle engine rev’d up but transmission did not engage. Attempted to cycle through gear selector with same result. Reverse is the only gear that allowed vehicle movement. Serious safety concern if this were to happen while traveling at any significant speed or if trying to merge or cross heavy traffic. Vehicle has not had an official diagnosis, but I believe this is a transmission valve body problem known to the manufacturer. There was no indication prior to this event of any mechanical or electrical problems with the vehicle. This issue could easily get someone killed.

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

Driving vehicle down freeway about 75mph heard noise and truck shut speeds down to about 60mph on a major freeway. Per mechanic lifter has collapsed and it has been a common issue that chevy knows about. He said that it could have been alot worse by seizing the engine and causing harm to drive or other people around causing a major accident. There is a major safety issue to life and or death caused by this issue that has not been a concern and causing people to pay over $5000. 00 for repairs. Chevy has known about the faulty lifters for years and doesn't seem to care about safety concerns.

Failure Date: 12/07/2024

Dealership attempting to sell a vehicle with an open recall was more than prepared to let me drive and potentially sell a vehicle with a recall open causing the rear tires to randomly lock up. Made problem known to salesman and said they'd take it off the market. Now, they lowered the price by $2600 as it was previously listed at $25,571, now listed at $22,971. Listing still not down.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

10 miles from home on [xxx] after thanksgiving with my children sleeping at [xxx] in snowy cold weather, my engine began to fail. Power was limited on hills and the check engine light would come on and go back off when on flat or downhill. The next morning I took my truck to the dealer that I purchased it from where I was told the lifters had failed and I need a new engine. 1000 miles after I replaced my engine my transmission failed completely requiring a transmission replacement. Immediately upon picking up the vehicle and going down a long hill in the area, engine breaking turned on as expected but as the truck tried to slow itself, after 2 or 3 downshifts, the transmission began making a loud grinding sound and while still going close to 50 mph, the speedometer showed 10-15 mph and the tach dropped to idle. The transmission was decoupled from the motor. When gas was reapplied it seemed to make the connection again and resume normal driving. I called the dealership whose techs did not believe me and told me that I could 'turn off' the engine breaking feature. The situation continued to worsen each drive and it would do it more often. This was unacceptable and they finally had a tech ride with me to experience it and immediately agreed there was an issue and reordered another transmission. The third transmission did not fix the issue and was experienced immediately. They are now guessing how to fix the issue telling me I have to replace the transfer case out of my pocket with no diagnosis, not sure what is causing it and have not fixed the problem. Videos would not fit in upload due to size. Videos show speedometer failure. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/22/2024

We were driving 40 mph when all the sudden the rear tires locked up without warning. We almost got in an accident and thankfully were able to get off the road. Then, the check engine light came on and the truck went into limp mode and would not shift gears automatically and it was difficult to make it home. We had a mechanic come to our house to run a diagnostic and they informed us of the recall and confirmed it is what the truck was experiencing. We took it to the dealership and they confirmed the recall and that there was no available fix and nothing they could do for us. Meanwhile, ours is not safe to drive.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

With only 70,000 miles on the truck it started to have a hard shudder and wheels locking up. During the wheel shudder it would shift hard as well. We took it to a shop and they said it was our transmission control module and that the transmission had metal shavings and would fail soon. They also said doing any service to these transmissions can cause failure. We were informed that the dealership is aware these transmissions are all failing. The cost to replace is over $6,500. The dealership should have to do an official recall for this. After some research I found that the dealership has acknowledged the issue by replacing the tcm and uploading new software to put the transmission into a fail safe instead of putting in a new transmission. The issues that the failure causes has made thousands of people have to get new transmissions before the service is even due. A quick search on google states that 461,000 vehicles were effected and that a recall has been issued, but it has not been officially issued. We need a new transmission and should not have to pay for it on a truck that is so new and serviced timely.
