Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners have reported 214 problems related to vehicle speed control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 based on all problems reported for the Silverado 1500.
Component/system that failed: the transmission control module in my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has malfunctioned. The vehicle has issues with slipping between gears, rough shifting, and hesitation when accelerating. This component has already been inspected and diagnosed by a certified Chevrolet dealership, and the part is currently on backorder. The vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. Safety risk: this issue poses a serious safety risk to myself and others. The gear slipping and delayed response when driving—especially when merging onto highways or changing lanes—creates unpredictable behavior that can lead to an accident. The truck sometimes fails to engage gears properly, which makes it dangerous in traffic situations. Diagnosis confirmation: yes, the problem has been confirmed by a chevy dealership service advisor (jose diaz), who provided a formal quote and diagnosis for the replacement of the transmission control module. Inspection by others: the vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives, but Chevrolet customer assistance is currently reviewing the case, and I was advised to submit this documentation. Warning lamps or symptoms: there were no warning lamps initially, symptoms include slipping gears, hesitation when pressing the gas pedal, jerky shifting, and difficulty accelerating smoothly. These symptoms have progressively worsened over time. Additional context: I have learned that many 2020 Chevrolet silverado trucks have been recalled for the exact same issue, but my VIN is currently not included. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and that my vehicle should be considered for inclusion in the recall or further investigation.

No check engine light come on until continued driving over 15-20 miles. Transmission slams into second gear when taking off or when stopping it may or may not downshift into first causing safety issues when in traffic. Possible electrical error or clutch inside transmission. On this model it is a sealed transmission so no way of identifying if metal shavings come out with a transmission flush. The issue only happens when vehicle is at temperature, if under and still cool drives perfect but as soon as it hits the temperature of 210 it slams very ugly.

While driving 55+mph on a parkway the service parking brake, check engine light and the traction control light came on with a warning "engine power reduced" which was dangerous because I could not accelerate and there was not a spot to pull over. This is frustrating due to the fact that I was having this same issue 6 months ago and Chevrolet said it was a wiring issue and it wasn't covered by the warranty because it had 42k miles. Chevrolet said it was a known issue but it was not at the level of a recall and it cost $1800 to fix.
Fuel regulator- high/low pressure failed. Yes the vehicle is available for inspection (currently at rotolo Chevrolet). My safety and others were compromised because was on freeway approximately 75 mph and my power and speed was unexpectedly reduced. Almost caused pile up, I had to take evasive measures to guide truck to slow lane, and off the road. Yes, the problem has been confirmed [xxx] by certified Chevrolet technicians at rotolo Chevrolet-fontana California. Yes the part/vehicle has been inspected by certified Chevrolet technician. A few odd hard engine starts(June/July figured a "cold" start). 2 weeks prior([xxx]) to the on road incident, the check engine light came on while driving, stopped vehicle to refuel- when the truck was restarted the check light was no longer illuminated. Scheduled ASAP service appointment 8/16/24 with Chevrolet, they couldn't take it sooner than 8/19/24 being that my truck is still under power train warranty. Unfortunately they say a faulty fuel regulator is not covered. Document is initial service request order, I was called by technician stating the specific (fuel regulator) issue and that my repair cost would be over $1,030. 00. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

My vehicle radio goes crazy, but oddly the speedometer goes away as well. I was able to get it back by turning radio off completely, but this should be a recall issue. Please help.

We went to an appointment and when we got back in the car, a message was on the screen. It said that the brake system has failed and we could only drive 43 mph maximum! the engine light was on and we could not accelerate beyond 43 mph. This is extremely dangerous when driving on a highway! we drove home on the interstate going 43 mph in a 70 mph zone! we had small children in the car and almost got into a few accidents due to other aggressive drivers. We then called local dealers who said that they were too busy to take our truck for weeks! they also said that our truck was not covered under warranty. So we took it to a local body shop. They fixed it for just above $500. It worked for a week and broke again, then they fixed it again for free. The brake failure 43 mph light came on for the 3rd time. We took it garber and they fixed it after 2 weeks and charged us a fortune. Invoice attached. A few weeks later the same light came back on. Garber then took another 2 weeks to fix it! I’m writing here as I’ve seen other silverados recalled for the same issue but not my exact truck (year). It’s obviously faulty software and it should not be the customers responsibility to fix. Especially with a vehicle under 20k miles! there is absolutely no way that we will ever buy a gm again but the important part here is that other people are not put into a dangerous situation like we were. Besides dealing with this issue for well over a month - the important part is safety. I can’t understand how these trucks have the same problems but only certain vins qualify for a recall. Please consider our truck as part of the overall recall for this issue. It’s unethical to pick and choose only certain vins!.
The cluster that makes my dash gauges visible has failed and malfunctioning. The safety concern is that I cannot see my speed, my tire pressure, mileage, and I will not be able to see if there are other issues wrong with my vehicle since the entire dash gauges are not visible. The system is not resetting while driving and I lose power when it does that. I have to guess when to put gas or put the risk of myself and other drivers of my vehicle stalling out in the middle of a highway. The issue has been inspected by a dealer during an oil change and they even left a note for me that they were unable to reset my oil mileage because the system is not working. The dealership performed a system test and performed an update and they confirmed that did not fix the cluster issue. There were no warnings before this happened.

While driving brakes failed and codes came on saying brake system failure 43 mph, this problem apparently is a programming issue that will cost over 600 dollars because “reprogramming” isn’t covered. Brake pads were over 50% life and it is a very dangerous error.
I was driving on [xxx] where the speed limit varies from 65-75 mph. I hit 70mph and randomly the truck jolted and dropped down to 40mph without warning. Cars swerved to avoid hitting me and I was shaken. I called the dealership who said there are no recalls and nothing to worry about, but call if it happens again. Two days later I was driving up to PA from TN. 7 hours away from home and also on [xxx] and the truck did it again 3 times in a row. The truck was bouncing all over the highway and people trying their best to avoid me. I managed to get off but did hit and go over something when I was getting off the highway. I took the back streets and found a dealer. The transmission needs to be replaced the think, on a 2 year old truck with 50k miles. Apparently factory caused electrical issues. This truck has been an electrical nightmare since we purchased it. They need to issue a recall with all the transmission and engine issues that chevy is experiencing. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Stalling with no power transmission is putting me at risk since I first purchased this vehicle. Transmission needs to be replaced because of the defective drive shaft on all 2017 models . Really serious problem with a hard shift and multiple misfire. Just not sure what to do at this point. I’m still paying for a truck that’s not working.
Vehicle shuts off while driving in traffic at low and high speeds stabilitrak service light comes on and the vehicle dash goes dark radio and temp control panel go dark/ black.
Several things have happened multiple times now. While driving on an interstate the truck suddenly lost power then from 70 mph dropped almost immediately to 30-35 which almost caused the vehicles behind me to slam into me. Another time the auto stop came on waiting at a red light then when the light turned green the truck threw all alerts on the dash and died. Now I was parking and the esc control light came on then the trailer braking light and now the vehicle lost all power all together. I am not able to start it or even lock it.

Service park brake and service esc lights are on, check engine on and motor making a knocking noise.
An electrical issue of uncertain origin involving the stabilitrack system that causes the truck to jerk a different direction or stop completely in unexpected fashion.
Vehicle has abrupt, unexpected power failures and/or issues with "stabilitrak" that causes immediate engine shut-off at highway speeds and/or causes the steering wheel to jerk unexpectedly potentially causing a run-in with traffic.
When driving sometimes, the abs light is illuminated along with the traction control and stabilitrak lights. The dic says service traction control and stabilitrak. This issue needs to be fixed immediately as this is a safety issue.

Vehicle has intermitten reduced engine display while traveling down the high way. Causes the vehicle to downshift and significantly increase engine rpm. I’m fearing if this continues to happen it will blow up my engine. The ecu shows code p2138. After some research I’ve learned gm is aware of this fsult in their vehicles and I believe they should be the one paying for their mistake. Not me.

Stabiltrack system, traction control system, reduced engine power. Since purchase of the vehicle, intermittent immediate failure or previously stated vehicle systems caused critical safety concerns for occupants and other drivers while operating. Vehicle looses power enters safety "limp mode" due to faulty engineering. Upon inspection by state police and fire/ems, owners urged to contact vehicle manufacturer and NHTSA to report issue. Failure of system first happened around 140k miles on odometer. No safety or warning lamps were present prior to stated malfunction of vehicle. Malfunction appears now daily causing impaired drivability and serious safety concerns for occupants and fellow drivers. Messages on dashboard state the following. "service stabiltrack, service traction control, reduced engine power". No certain cause or remedy from manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing unintended acceleration. The contact stated while pulling into his driveway and slightly depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle speed increased continuously. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving, and nearly caused him to collide with another vehicle on one occasion. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times; however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.
The transmission locked up while driving such that we came to a stop in traffic with our newborn and toddler in the back seat and were required to call 9-1-1 because the vehicle was stuck in a gear and would not move while we were in the middle of a road in traffic. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer that the transmission blew due to metal getting into the transmission from failure of transmission pan. There was minimal warning before it happened. Approx. 8 months prior we had taken it in to dealer because the rpms were running high and and we’re told it was the 4 wheel drive causing it and approx. 2 weeks prior to this incident we heard grinding.
The contact owns a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the engine sounded abnormally rough with a knocking sound coming from the engine. In addition, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and was pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed lifters. The contact was informed that the lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
The tcm failed in rush hour traffic! in minneapolis minnesota, the stability control light came on, traction control light came on, no throttle, no power. We backed up traffic, got push to the side of the road, towed to the service shop, and was told the transmission control module (tcm) failed. Then told they are on national backorder from gm. The truck has been down for 3 months with no answers or parts in sight.

Lifter randomly went bad while driving down highway. Safety concern is being put into low power mode on an interstate and vehicle running rough. No warning lights and perfect performance before it happened.
While driving on the highway the vehicle began to shake and the stability track light came on. It felt like it affected the transmission. We had to get it towed 30 miles to our home area. Shop calibrated the brakes and says that took care of it. This vehicle only has 30,000 miles on it.
While driving the vehicle it will slow automatically as if there is something in front of the vehicle when there is nothing there. It has happened twice on the highway at highway speeds causing driver to take action. While driving the vehicle, the emergency brake automatically set itself while in drive. Electrical accessory issue with radio; cutting out and losing signal, unable to control volume of radio when driving or parked as radio gets extremely loud and cannot be turned down or off.
My transmission had to be replaced. It has always lunged, jerked, shake and make several unnatural noises. It would clunk into gear or not go in the proper gear. Several times it would not down shift and pushed me into the intersection either at a stop sign or red light. It felt as if I was hit from behind. One day it wouldn't go forward or reverse. It started working later and I took it to a dealership. There were no warning lights on so no codes were displayed. Suggested driving it as maybe it was just a glitch. The next day it wouldn't go over 40 mph and check engine light came on. I took it back to dealership. After they saw the codes, a mechanic looked at it and said there was metal in the transmission fluid and it smelled burnt. They said it needed a new transmission. I took it to a transmission shop and they confirmed it needed replaced. I had this done and it was over $5000. Transmission shop said they do 2-3 transmissions for silverado a week, especially 2016 and 2017.
Truck does not brake when any object enters the saftey brake zone leading driver to loose safe distance while driving. Dealer unable to fix.
Started truck and dash lit up like a christmas tree service brakes trailer brake failure do not exceed 43 mph. Check engine light was on multiple other lights were on truck is currently at dealership and gm doesn’t have a fix for issue. Part that is needed is on national back order. Haven’t made first payment and truck is already in the shop and is not safe to drive due to this issue.
After 10000 miles my transmission is shifting erratically, especially in the morning.
While driving at low speeds (approx 5-10 mph) the brake pedal became stiff and very difficult to stop. This issue happened with no prior warning or indication of the issue. As a result of this issue severe damage to personal property housing and vehicles was nearly missed. Upon research this has been a common issue for gm vehicles specifically trucks and suvs.

I got a code p2138 throttle/pedal position sensor/switch. Upon doing my own research on this code I found out it is a manufacture defect. And they are aware this is caused because the manufacturer did not seal the antenna correctly so water gets in and damages wires and sensors.

Pressed the brake and service esc/ service brake assist/ check engine/ abs/ lights came on. Speed was restricted to 43 mph, speed was restricted to 62 mph. Cruise control was disabled. Brake pad monitoring system read incorrectly. Took it to dealership for further inspection.
I was driving on along wt harris highway and I attempted a turn along jw clay blvd. When my I pressed the gas and my truck didn't respond. I lost acceleration and it took a dangerous amount of time for me to cross the highway. There aren't any warning lights or a check engine light on, but my transmission has begun to slip gears. This is after I had over 2k work done at the dealership for other problems I was having. Since no warning lights were visible it came as a complete shock in the middle of traffic when I could not accelerate. I have had my truck inspected by aamco total car care and they have confirmed the problems and also the lack of warning lights or codes. After some research online I have found this issue common with Chevrolet silverados manufactured between 2015-19.
