1 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2012

Brake line corroded and blew under driver side leaking all fluid out and no brakes. Wasnt driving fast luckily and no accident.

2 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2012

While backing up the truck to hook up to a trailer, I pressed the brake pedal and it went to the floor. The brakes failed. I pressed the pedal a few more times and heard brake fluid leaking from outside the cab somewhere, somewhere under the driver seat. After looking around the master cylinder and firewall I traced the lines along the frame and found that all four lines along the frame rail were severely rusted/corroded. At least one line had rusted through and was leaking fluid. The brake system lost pressure and the truck can only be slowed by using the parking brake.

3 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

Was towing a 4200 lb load when the brake pedal went to the floor. No warning light. Pulled safely off of the highway (barely!) and into ocean performance marine - at the end of the I-95 offramp. Left the boat there and had the silverado towed. A brake line ruptured and was leaking brake fluid badly. Still no warning light.

4 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

Brake lines rusted out and allowed brake fluid to leak out when I applied the brakes. Had vehicle towed to curry auto in bloomington, in for replacement of rusted brake lines. This happened a second time about two months later when another original set of brake lines under the bed of the truck rusted through and caused brake failure. Both times I was driving in hilly country and was fortunate not to crash into something. Dealer said that this is a common problem with silverado trucks of brake lines rusting out. I have a 1996 Buick roadmaster that has rusted out quarter panels and the brake lines are original. This truck is rust free except for the brake lines. Gm should pay for the replacement of the brake lines on these trucks.

5 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2010

We were just heading down our drive on vacation towing our travel trailer when my husband could not stop the truck. The brakes had stopped working. We found out the brake line had corroded and was leaking brake fluid. We took the vehicle to a local repair shop who fixed the brake line and we continued on our trip. We returned yesterday and my husband moved the truck this morning and another corroded brake line blew! I thank god this did not happen as we were driving our trailer through the mountains or our family would not be here to talk about it. Looks like we will be replacing all the brake lines today out of concern for our safety.

6 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2010

1. Brake line (rear) corroded at plastic retaining clip located approx halfway toward the rear axle, lost braking effectiveness no accident 2. Transmission cooling line corroded at plastic retaining clip, leaked fluid, was repaired without causing any other damage within 3 weeks of incident (1) above. 3. Brake line (front left) corroded at plastic retaining clip causing loss of braking effectiveness at 30 mph, no accident, date of occurrence 9/18/2012 mileage 110k.

7 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2010

Brakes went all the way to the floor. Found out that brake line from master cylinder to proportional valve had rusted and a hole had formed allowing brake fluid to leak out. Second brake line rusted but intact. Am currently looking to have brake lines replaced.

8 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2009

I started the truck, put it into drive and proceeded to the end of my alley. I stepped on the brake pedal which went down more then normal and the truck did not stop until I applied more pressure to the brake pedal which caused the rear wheels to skid and stop the truck, I carefully and slowly reversed the truck back into the drive way and parked it. There was a wet spot in the alley that upon inspection was brake fluid. Looking under the truck there was brake fluid dripping from a rusted thru brake line on the left side of the truck under about where your left foot would be while sitting in the truck. The truck was towed to the chevy dealer to be repaired. The service advisor told me brake line failure is not uncommon in the vintage truck. The tow truck driver told me mine was the 3rd tuck he towed today with the same condition. I do not want this incident report to reflect badly on the dealership who has always been there for me and my family. Bursting brake lines on the highway causes me great concern. I was told the replacement brake line is of the same steel material as the failed part and not stainless steel.

9 Brake Fluid Leak problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2009

Corroded brake lines caused fluid leak. Lines replaced at my expense. Anti-lock unit now faulty and likely due to contamination from corroded brake lines. Anti-lock wheel sensors failed numerous times, once replaced under warranty, twice at my expense.
