1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact waited for one hour before the vehicle would restart and resume normal operation; however, while traveling the stalling failure recurred. In addition, the failure occurred on a separate occasion and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they informed the contact that the crank shaft position sensor would need to be replaced. There was a recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling). The VIN was excluded from the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 100,000.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2008

Began having problems with starting the vehicle on occasion. That lead to losing complete power while at highway speeds (65 mph) as well as losing complete power while at idle or slow speeds. The last time it happened the check engine light came on. It showed a code that indicated the crankshaft sensor was at fault. Truck was taken to dealership and this was confirmed, however the dealer informed me that the recall (07v521000) did not apply to my VIN even though it was a 2001 with an 8. 1 l. I paid to have it fixed at a cost of $375.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2008

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact experienced intermittent losses of power with his vehicle. The failure occurred numerous times while driving at both low and high speeds, but was originally noticed at 60 mph. There were no warning indicators prior to the vehicle losing power. Occasionally, the vehicle would shut down and immediately restart, but other times, it would take longer to do so. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in the recall pertaining to this failure. The contact called the manufacturer's customer service line and was informed that there was no recall for this failure; however, he was also informed that his VIN was not included in the recall because his check engine warning light did not illuminate prior to the failure. The recall number was unknown. The current mileage was 121,000 and failure mileage was approximately 119,000. Updated 7/3/08.
