1 Crankcase (pcv) problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

Pickup truck stalls at high speed. Engine dies, brakes and power steering loses complete power. This is a heavy duty truck (8. 1l engine) and I was towing a trailer and loaded tractor down a steep hill. Lucky to come out alive. Dealer diagnosed as faulty crankcase position sensor. This apparently is a known problem with this truck/engine (NHTSA campaign id 07v521000) but apparently my VIN is not part of recall. Got news for NHTSA & the problem has not been fixed and the extremely dangerous failure mode still exists. A truck with an 8. 1l engine is more often than not towing something heavy (horses, trailer, boat, tractor, etc). Stalling at any time and anywhere makes for an extremely dangerous condition. Do a google search on the campaign id and you will see that this is not an isolated incident. Extend the recall to later VIN #'s and save some lives.

2 Crankcase (pcv) problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2008

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd with the 8. 1l engine with an intermittent stalling problem as described by others. The engine will stall at various times, while driving, sitting at stop lights, etc. The problem has been an issue for several years. I noted the recall issued by gm, but my vehicles VIN was 5000 past the scope of the recall. The truck was built in November 2000 and delivered in mid-December 2000. I paid to have the crankcase sensor repaired and it appears to have resolved the problem. The pickup has just over 50,000 miles.

3 Crankcase (pcv) problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2007

My 2001 Chevrolet silverado pick-up with the 8. 1 l engine, suddenly shuts down while driving. The fault code indicates that the crankcase position sensor is defective.

4 Crankcase (pcv) problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2006

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled over a dozen times. The failure was noticed while driving 70 mph. The check engine light illuminated prior to the failure. Occasionally, the vehicle would just jerk and other times it would completely shut down. The contact had to wait approximately 5-10 minutes before the vehicle would restart. The dealer stated that his VIN was excluded from the crankshaft recall. The purchase date and recall number were unknown. The current mileage was 73,000 and failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Updated 02-19-08 the consumer stated the problem started at 50,000 miles and through to 73,000 currently. Updated 02/14/08.
