I got into an accident with my 2005 chevy silverado by rear ending some one at a stop sign. I pulled up behind the vehicle and stopped to wait for them to go the it was my turn she didn't look well enough and had to hit her breaks again and so then did I but my truck did not stop in time because the breaking system delayed.
Making left turn from loop 375 exit ramp to turn left onto montana Ave. In el paso TX. I was waiting for light to turn left. Light turned green I proceeded to make left turn and in the turn the steering came really hard to turn I went up on the curb and attempted to stop and the brake pedal went to the floor. There was enough brake to stop. Good thing this did not happen when I approached the intersection or would have been much worse. There was no warning light or chime. I checked fluids and they were all full. When I took it to mission Chevrolet and explained what happen they gave me the impression they already knew what was wrong like this is a common issue. Today I got a call from them and confirmed that it is the power assist for the brakes and power steering. Why if this is a known problem the consumer does not know about it?.
Purchased new in 2005. With low mileage and at 7 years old, clanking sounds from the front driver's side started. Felt somewhat in the steering wheel. Dealer replaced and wrote the "intermediate steering shaft to be binding. " cost, $300. 00. Truck not used off-road and half the miles are towing a 5th wheel trailer. Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but doubtful. I read many others via the NHTSA show this problem too, yet no recall ! seems a safety issue to me. Currently, I'm experiencing this again as of 041114 @ 51,000 miles @ 9 years old. Will be taking vehicle to dealer - again.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that every two years, the pittman arm would prematurely fracture. The part had already been replaced more than three times. The part had to be replaced a fourth time by an independent mechanic who stated that the parts were oem. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The manufacturer issued 16 tsbs on the steering, three recalls on the steering, and 27 tsbs on the suspension. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer. The failure mileage was not available.
I have a 2005 chevy 2500 I have had the steering shaft replaced 2 times already and now at 80,000 miles it has gone out again. I have contacted gm about this problem, they are aware of the problem but unwilling to do anything about it, they say its not a safety issue. Well maybe they should drive it for a day they would think otherwise. It feels like the steering wheel shaft and all is about to fall out of the truck , I am afraid to even have my family ride it the vehicle with me. I have researched online and this has been a ongoing problem for some time and gm has not addressed the problem. I would advise whom ever to get online and research all of the blogs etc of people having same problem their are so many it would take me months to read them all. I spoke will gm again last week and they told me to contact your office and report it to you if I want this problem resolved. I believe it is a safety issue and should be recalled. If the steering shaft vibrates long enough it will break and then no steering. Thank you for looking into this issue and helping me and the millions of other people experiencing the same problem. Again this will be the third time this part has been replaced first at 20,000 then 42,000 and now at 78,000.
Excessive free play in steering along with clunking sound, especially erratic while pulling trailer. At low speeds the primary symptom is the clunking, rattling sound along with the free play. At highway speeds, the erratic steering becomes the predominate symptom although the clunking and rattling sounds remain.
Steering has been an issue with this truck since 12k and has been into the dealership for repair 5 times since. Issue appears about every 8k-10k miles. Bearings, joints, seals, all sorts of 'causes' have been identified and each time I'm assured it is fixed. Only have 54k miles on this 2005 truck and I am again facing the dealership who is now less interested in helping since my warranty has expired. I'll never buy another Chevrolet.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that the steering wheel binds at a specific area when it is turned mostly to the right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they conducted a power steering pressure test at the cost of $90, but they still could not locate the cause of the failure. The Chevrolet manufacturer stated that they have to accept whatever the dealer stated was wrong with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 12,600.
The front end steering components clunk vibrate and veer in wrong direction.
Steering and handling is compromised by excessive play and vibration through the steering wheel. Steering wheel chatters when cornering and vibrates when traveling over the road.
