I have a 2001 duramax. While driving home one night from kalispel mt, I dimmed my lights for another car and my lights would not go back to bright then my steering wheel started to smoke and my lights went out all together causing me to run off the road. I pulled the cover off the steering column and the dimmer switch was melted. I replaced it at $130. I know my wife's 2002 is doing the same thing.
