Brake Grinding Noise problems of the 1996 Chevrolet Suburban

Five problems related to brake grinding noise have been reported for the 1996 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2001

Consumer was sitting at an intersection and there was a grinding noise. She had foot on brakes, and vehicle started to surge forward. Then, vehicle idled highly, and engine check light came on. Dealership was aware of problem.

2 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/14/1998

First set of front disc pads replaced on 1/20/98 (29362 miles on odometer). Grinding noise on braking noted in 12/98. Inspection on 12/14/98 by GMC dealer found need to replace front pads due to wear (40610 miles on odometer). Problem is excessive and rapid brake wear. We do not ride the brakes. Pads subsequent replaced by non-GMC dealership.

3 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/17/1997

Grinding noise develops in braking system. This is an inherent problem. Dealer's comments: system malfunctioned (two replacements).

4 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/29/1996

Poor abs brake performance, a grinding noise is experienced and the pedal goes to the floor.

5 Brake Grinding Noise problem

Abs brakes, when applying the brakes in normal conditions,the vehicle made a grinding noise and pedal went the floor, causing extended stopping distance. Dealer replaced brakes and turned rotors.
