Six problems related to brake master cylinder have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 mph uphill, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated. The brake pedal was applied with force repeatedly without any response from the vehicle. The vehicle eventually came to a stop and was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the master cylinder was fractured and caused the brake lines to burst. In addition, the radiator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not serviced because the required equipment was not available to perform the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
I started up my 1999 chevy Suburban in my driveway this afternoon and the brake pedal went to the floor. I opened the hood and noticed brake fluid splattered all over the area below the master cylinder and all over the ground. I discovered that the line to the left front wheel rusted to the point of failure. I checked the other brake lines and they are badly corroded. This truck has never left me stranded in 13 years. I do not want to see it go, but this may be the end. Also, a little over 1 year ago, I sold my 2005 tahoe to a man who told me he had a 1999 tahoe. He was buying my tahoe because the brakes lines on his had corroded and ruptured. He was careful to climb all around and under my tahoe to check for brake line corrosion before buying. I just researched this problem, and it appears to be common. Many of these trucks are still on the road. How many will have to be killed before anything is done about it?.
I was turning left into a parking lot in dry weather and the anti-lock brakes kicked in when they should not have. I complained about this previously, but was not aware that this should not have happened and my complaint stated that they did not work properly when they came on almost causing a wreck. This has happened several times since, most recently yesterday. I was trying to stop at 8 mph, the abs came on, they pulled my vehicle to the left, and I have 106,870 miles on her now. My brake pedals is going lower to the floorboard each year and I have been told that this is normal and it cannot be adjusted! my master cylinder is not leaking, nor is my brake fluid at this time. I have had my front calipers replaced twice! I maintain my vehicle and have a lot of money put in my black beauty, with repair records to show for it. I have my children and friends ride with me and do not want to injure/kill them or anyone, myself included! you need to do something about this!.
Brakes do not seem to be as affective as they should be. It takes a long distance to get the vehicle stopped. We have had the brakes replaced and even the master cylinder but does not seem to affect the stopping power of the brakes. The brakes just don't seem to be working the way they should be for this vehicle.
The abs system corroded. The truck has been looked at by a mechanic only. The vehicle has been exposed to salt water for some years which may have caused corrosion to the abs. This has been a problem for two years, and nothing been done to correct it. The consumer tried everything on the brake system, except the abs. The consumer stated when he hit the brakes hard, especially at low speeds the vehicle may not stop. If he hit the brakes hard at 30 mph, the vehicle may come to a slow stop. On occasion the vehicle may pull in either direction when braking. All the brake parts have been replaced at least once and some parts twice. The hydro boost, calipers, pads, rotors, master cylinder, brake lines, rear wheel cylinders rear shoes and rear drums.
Windshield wiper faulty and the brake booster system failed. The wipers will work but than all the sudden stop. The brakes completely went out and the vehicle had very little brake capablility to it. I talked to gm manager jack cunningham on 082903 and he said that a recall has been issued for faulty wipers on years 1994-1997. He did not address the brake problem. Jack said that under the special policy that if my vehicle had the same problem as the recall, gm would honor the recall. I called ed bozarth service and chris needed to verify from jack that this repair would be covered. Chris as well as myself has not yet received a call back from jack at 866 942 4368 x 48470. I called the gm customer service 800# and they said this year is not covered under the recall. I explained to them that I talked to jack and what he said. They commented that they did not want to go over his head and transfered me back to his audix. This needs to be recalled for the faulty wipers and the brake system needs to be investiagated, because these are safety issues and need to be corrected. Thank you.
