Brake Disc Pads problems of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Five problems related to brake disc pads have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2009

I have a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. I had rear brakes and rotors replaced at 87813 miles in 02/08. At approximately 78713 miles the front brake pads were replaced. The vehicle now has approximately 104783 miles on it and the rear pads are gone and the rear rotors are warped. The front pads curiously still have 2/3 of the pad left. When going online I found a recall effecting the brake system of the vehicle NHTSA # 05v379000. Doing my due diligence I called gm customer service about the problem and they stated that this particular recall is not open for the VIN # of my vehicle. After reading the actual recall on your website it would appear my vehicle which is in fact registered in the state of ohio a "salt-belt" state which was one of the primary considerations for the recall. I am curious as to why the recall would not be in effect on my vehicle. Does my vehicle first have to be involved in an accident causing injuries because of a brake failure before this will be addressed? no common car owner would suspect that after 15k miles rear brakes would need to be replaced and would more than likely continue driving the vehicle until there was a catastrophic brake failure that could lead to serious injury. I would like someone to get an explanation from general motors as to why this is not being addressed in these vehicles not supposedly affected by this recall.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2005

I have the exact problem identified in pe05020. The abs comes on almost every time I stop. My wife almost crashed in another car in a parking lot. While I don't live in canada where gm recalled vehicles for the same issue, I live in the north state subject to the same conditions. What is gm waiting for, more casualties? this is on a 2001 Suburban with a complete set of new rotors and pads. It started about 1 month or about 1000 miles after the brake job ( mid August). I have parked the vehicle until I can get it fixed. I am telling all my friends that have Suburbans and avalanches to look out for this problem. I know I will stay clear of them in parking lots and stop lights. Someone should put a warning out to the media -- these vehicles are dangerous!.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2004

2001 Chevrolet Suburban w/40,000k vehicle has excessive rear brake pad wear out ( 3 set rear brake pads). (0 front wear out) no assistance or remidy supplied by general motors. Currenty unable to get several other Suburbans to pass inspection in n. J. Due to excessive rear brake pressure. I have also found this problem with k1500 series chevy trucks also w/ high amount of rear brake pad wear out.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2004

Multiple times while driving my 2001 chevy Suburban and coming to a stop, at slow speeds, my abs brakes come on. It usually occurs at approx. 3mph. I have tried replacing my brake pads, my abs computer and a sensor. None of these actions have resolved the problem. The number of times it has occurred are too numerous to count. I also have two friends with identical problems in similar gm vehicles. To date I have spent over $1000 on the problem.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2003

The rear brake pads experienced premature wear.
