Carrier/rack problems of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban - part 2

77 problems related to carrier/rack have been reported for the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

36 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2016

Dashboard is cracked. I understand there is a lawsuit about it. Our vehicle is not part of takata air bag recall even though it has spent plenty of time in the southern states that are part of the recall.

37 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

65,000 miles on 2011 Chevrolet Suburban and the dash has multiple cracks. Concerned that one of the cracks is next to passenger airbag. Worried about shrapnel in a collision.

38 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

Dashboard is cracked in three places, including two cracks around the passenger airbag. This is a common occurrence in gm trucks/suvs and needs to be addressed!.

39 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The dashboard cracked around the passenger airbag deployment area and above the top of the driver side instrument panel.

40 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

Cracked dash above the instrument panel and passenger side airbag. This poses a safety issue. My dash is crack so badly, I'm afraid the airbag will come out on its own. It is downright negligent that someone will have to get seriously injured or killed before this problem is taken seriously.

41 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2015

Front dash board is structurally cracked without incident, cracked around front passenger airbag , in the event of deployment, dash material may in fact create shrapnel or other sharp object inflicting injury or death to vehicle passengers. Gm has failed to formally recognize this problem. Also noteworthy is gm dealer already replaced complete dashboard at a cost of almost $2000, and 14 month later cracked again. Vehiicle located in arizona, garaged parked and 65,000 miles on odometer.

42 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Dashboard cracking potentially affecting the use of the airbag and the electrical components under the dashboard on the drivers side.

43 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Vehicle dash is cracking which presents a safety risk. Plastic could be propelled at passengers in the case of air bag deployment.

44 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Cracked dashboard. Located above airbag deployment area. Fragmentation hazard.

45 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2015

This vehicle has been garaged since it was new yet the dash board has cracks everywhere. There are cracks around the passenger side air bag which I am concerned for my passengers safety as it may be possible if the air bag were to deploy, plastic shrapnel from the defective dash may fly and injure someone.

46 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

The dash is cracking by the airbag. The same exact thing happened with my 2006 tahoe. There is a facebook page with over 3000 people with the same issue - in addition to a news segment that was recently covered. It is a major issue that gm is not taking responsibility. The facebook page is "07-13 gm cracked dash safety hazard for all trucks".

47 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2015

Got in my SUV this morning to leave for work and noticed a huge crack middle way of the dash coming up to the top hump where controls are located. As I have researched I see there are many complaints regarding this issue. When paying over $30,000. 00 for a vehicle, you should not have to be reporting cracks on your dash. I feel this may cause an issue with airbags going off as they should if ever in an accident. This should most definitely be repaired by gm ASAP. If there are this many issues with all gm makes then there is obviously a problem that needs to be addressed.

48 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2015

The dashboard above steering column has a crack almost to the windshield. Gm has been notified of this issue and wants hundreds of dollars to repair. It is a known manufacturer faulty part that they are not willing to recall. Most of which are cracked by the airbags. I feel like this is a hazard.

49 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

Dashboard is cracked in several places now - 1st crack was top of dash behind instrument cluster. 2nd crack now at passenger side airbag area at the top of the dash. In 2015, the vehicle was taken to the dealership to have it addressed. Service manager said there was nothing he could do but another manager stated it was a known problem with the Suburbans. Chevy rep was suppose to inspect but nothing was conveyed back to me. I did not actually see the dash crack at the time it happened, so it must have been while the vehicle was stationary. The vehicle is always parked in a garage and now only has 58,000 miles on it (almost 5 years old). This can be a major safety issue in the event of an airbag deployment. Pieces of the dash could become deadly weapons in the event the airbags deploy. This appears to be a common problem that should be addressed by the manufacturer since it can be a major safety issue when broken pieces of dash go flying around the interior of the vehicle and injure or possible kill a passenger.

50 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Dashboard on my Suburban began cracking at 40k miles. Now has 3 cracks, one at the passenger airbag, one in the middle, and one near the instrument cluster rise. I'm afraid that if the passenger airbag is deployed during an accident, it will send broken pieces of sharp plastic as a projectile throughout the car. I have 5 kids ranging from twin 1 year old babies to a 21 year old. As a paramedic firefighter, I commonly see how projectiles in the car can become deadly. This is a big issue.

51 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2015

Vehicle developed two cracks on the top of the dashboard assembly. One crack is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, running from the forward-left corner of the passenger side airbag to the defroster vent. The other crack is on the driver side, inboard and slightly forward of the instrument panel "hump. " cracks discovered while vehicle was stationary. I understand this to be common, known manufacturer defect for this vehicle and related general motors vehicles (e. G. , GMC yukon, yukon xl, avalanche, tahoe, etc. ). This is a safety issue due to the location of the cracks potentially affecting passenger side airbag deployment, creating a dangerous shards of flying plastic in the event of a passenger side airbag deployment, the potential negative impact on the structural integrity of the dashboard and subsequent non-compliant performance during a collision, and potential dust and water intrusion into the interior of the dashboard through the cracks which would affect the various electronic components located in the dashboard interior.

52 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Cracked dash at airbag and above steering. Dealer will repair via an extended warranty I purchased when the auto was new.

53 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

The dashboard on my 2011 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 has cracked in two locations. Both of these locations would be effected by an airbag activation with high potential for flying sharp plastic fragments that a) pierce the airbag or prevent its proper inflation or, b) injure or kill front seat passengers. Open-source research indicates this is a widespread and pervasive issue with general motors vehicles of similar design (suburban, tahoe, silverado, avalanche, etc. . . ) stretching over a period of several years-- at least effecting model years 2007 thru 2013 or more. Furthermore, every gm service center has experienced so many of these dashboard cracks that replacement of these parts has become routine. Gm views this inherent design flaw as a warranty issue, not the endemic problem it actually is with potential for injury.

54 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

The dash board continues to crack to the point where it will be cracked clear through. Any kind of impact could cause the dashboard to fragment and fly into the cabin causing harm to the occupants. Additionally the dashboard is cracked where the dashboard airbag is deployed, so in the event of an airbag deployment dashboard pieces will also fly into the cabin harming occupants. This dashboard is a clear safety hazard and gm should be forced to replace all dashboards for the affected models.

55 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

Dashboards have cracked and failed twice. Sharp edges result from cracking. Unsafe exposure to dashboard wiring--susceptible to moisture, foreign object damage.

56 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Dashboard is cracked and the passenger side airbag and is loose and shakes the entire width of the dashboard.

57 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2015

Top of dash board cracked and broke, I am afraid that this my effect the proper operation of the air bags.

58 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2015

I bought a gm certified Suburban and less than two weeks later the dashboard cracked behind the airbag. I called the dealer and gm and alerted them to the problem and told them I felt unsafe driving the vehicle with my children in the vehicle. I feel that if that airbag deploys it could send that sharp piece of broken plastic flying through my car. They will not fix the dashboard without me paying for it and said it is not a common complaint people are having. However, everyone I have talked to with a Suburban, tahoe, or pick up truck between the years of 2007-2013 is experiencing the same crack in the same place near that airbag. Gm needs to fix these before innocent people get hurt.

59 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2015

The dash panel of my 2011 Suburban ltz has multiple cracks. The cracks are on the driver's side, above the instrument panel from one end to the other, and at the passenger side air bag, from one end to the air bag. I have paid to have the cracks repaired multiple times, but they continue to crack, as evidenced by the attached pictures. These cracks have appeared completely on their own without anything being placed onto or hitting the dash panel. Should I be involved an accident causing the airbags to deploy, these cracks would create a "shrapnel effect" of the plastic pieces being forced into the passenger cabin and possibly into the faces of passengers.

60 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

The dashboard cracking.

61 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Dashboard has a crack by airbag and another is starting on top of steering wheel and is spreading. Never used any products on dash just damp cloth to dust. Worried if airbag deploys sharp objects from dash will cause injury.

62 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2015

Dashboard cracking at passenger side airbag and driver side above speedometer.

63 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Cracked dashboard over passenger-side front airbag. Cracked dashboard over instrument cluster.

64 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

Dashboard has cracked without any intervening event. One crack on the right passenger side of the dashboard is directly on the top left side of the passenger airbag. I'm afraid if airbag was deployed shards of plastic would become projectiles or possibly interfere with the airbag operation. Another crack on top of dashboard is on the drivers side on the top left side of the instrumentation cluster is more than 5. 5 to 6 inches long.

65 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I have a large crack in the dashboard over top of the instrument cluster. I don't know how or when it occurred. I first noticed it in the beginning of October, 2014. Because of its location it is not easily visible and it's possible it may have been there for some time. I found this is a common problem with gm products and gm refuses to address the issue. I went to my local dealer about it and they told me it's not covered under the extended warranty I purchased. I feel this is a safety issue due to the potential further deterioration while operating the vehicle.

66 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

In September 2014, I noticed my dash above the instrument cluster cracking. I purchased this car as a gm certified used car with original factory warrantee in April 2013 with 60081 miles on it. In less than 5 months of ownership it developed this crack while still under factory warrantee. I took it to my local dealer with all my paperwork and they said it was not covered, nor would they replace it. This crack has developed due to no fault of my own from neglect, excess wear and tear, excess sunlight or anything other than manufacture flaw. This crack has continued to spread and due to the thin and sharp nature of the plastic, if I were to get into an accident, this would splinter and act like shrapnel within the cabin. My family's life is danger due to this fact and gm refuses to acknowledge this is an issue. Please look into this as I know many others have the same issue with even 2015 models. I am asking for the safety of my family and yours.

67 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

There are two cracks in the dashboard, one over the driver console and one on the top left of passenger airbag. . . . Nothing has occurred to cause these cracks, but I am afraid if airbag is deployed, the dash will break up and hurt us.

68 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

We own a 2011 chevy Suburban and one day noticed two cracks on our dashboard. One crack leads straight into the passenger air bag and the other crack is over the dash console on the driver side. Because our Suburban is out of the 36k mile warranty we were referred to gm. We called gm and were told that we would have to pay $450. 00 out of our pocket to get it fixed. We are very concerned that either 1) the air bag may not deploy in case of an accident or 2) that it will deploy on its own while we are driving. We are very disappointed that gm is not willing to stand behind their product and replace at no cost as this is clearly either a manufacturer defect or a poor quality product.

69 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2014

Cracked dashboard where airbag is located.

70 Carrier/rack problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

Dash cracked next to the airbag panel on the passenger side. This could cause the airbag to fail to deploy.
