6 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/08/2003

I had to replace tires on this vehicle at 29,000 miles to due excessive wear on the tires. These tires had been rotated and balanced every 4,000 miles. I assumed the tires had to be replaced because the tires were manufactured poorly. Well after replacing the original tires with goodyear tires, I have again had problems with tire wear on the front passenger side tire. I had a goodyear service technician investigate the issue and when the tire was removed the inner tie rod assembly was very loose. The inner tie rod had to be replaced. This is a serious issue. This can cause instability in vehicle control resulting in an accident. The Chevrolet dealership where I purchased the vehicle said that they had never seen a problem. The extended warranty that I purchased specifically does not cover this item. I obtained a service bulletin that indicates these parts have to be replaced quite frequently. I am very disappointed in the service from Chevrolet and the answers given to me by the local dealership. I saw the inner tie rod connection with my own eyes and immediately could tell there was an issue. Very curious that there have been so many issues with tires and sterring on these vehicles and now I see this problem with the tie rod. I believe this should warrant some investigation.

7 Front Suspension problem of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 11/22/2003

The steering wheel vibrates and I can hear a rattle from the front end. This happened soon after purchasing the vehicle and I was told that something had to be greased. The problem went away for quite a while until recently when it reappeared, of course as soon as the warranty expired. My father in law bought a new 2002 Suburban after we bought ours and has had the same problem with his.

14 Front Suspension problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Suburban

The first time I had a problem was right after I bought the Suburban, it pulled to the right. The dealer could not find any problems, but they eventually aligned the tires ( which they said it was very unusual to have to do that for a brand new vehicle). Over the months after the alignment, I did not notice any problems. I can not tell you exactly when my car started having problems. My vehicle would all of a sudden have a very loose feeling in the control of the steering. Thinking it was just me, I didn't think much of it for awhile. I had tires put on my car and the steering felt different (good), I thought maybe it had something to with tires and it was fixed. Eventually the steering started doing the same thing, the sudden loose steering. We live in a rural area 40 miles from our dealer and by the time I realized the problem was not normal, and I would have to give my vehicle up for a few days, my car was out of warranty (mileage) so I took it to an independent mechanic that I use, they drove it around on their errands for about two days and it finally did it for them. They were thinking they would have to replace the gear box, but they called gm to consult about the problem because they never had seen this problem and they told them about steering sensor problems. On 9/20/00, I gave them the ok to replace the sensor and I have not had any problems as of this date. I am reporting this to you because I am concerned for others that may have the same problem, it is a very scary feeling when the steering changes to a loose feeling and thinking if I were to react to an incident, I would probably overcorrect because of the problem steering. Thank you for your time.

The car has had a chronic alignment problem, causing veh. To pull right. In the 30,000 miles that I have owned the car, I have had the alignment done at least 6 or 7 times. It is dangerous, as well as a nuisance to repeatedly deal with.
