2 Brake Light problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the rear passenger side brake lights failed to engage. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the rear passenger signal socket and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 06e026000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure mileage was 198,000.

3 Brake Light problem of the 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

The rear driver side window became inoperable, followed by the entire door (it won't open at all). Then, the rear passenger side door wouldn't open from the inside, followed by the driver door and recently the passenger door. The driver door, front and rear passenger doors can only be opened by rolling the window down and opening the door from the outside handle. We noticed that around the same time the doors went out, so did the back brake light panels (replacing the bulbs and housing units don't make a difference). The back brake light panels are intermittent and seem to work on occasion (if we hit a bump or something). This is a severe safety issue and I'm afraid we will have to junk our truck due to it. Are there any other Tahoe owners with similar issues? any recalls related to these issues? this doesn't sound like normal wear and tear related issues to me. . .

4 Brake Light problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 03/25/2008

1999 series Chevrolet Tahoes (several years before and after) have a serious wiring safety issue. Failure of the turn signal / emergency flasher switch can result in total loss of brake lights under all conditions with no indication failure has occurred. Brake lights required to work at all times, even when car ignition is off. Yet because Chevrolet has "looped" the brake light wiring "through" this switch, failure in the switch function for emergency flashers, results in total brake light failure, even with car turned off, yet the turn signals continue to function and drivers are unaware of the failure. Unfortunately, the local dealer also wants over $445 for the switch and $175 labor to change it out. This results in a very unfair charge to the consumer of over $600 to fix a malfunction that must be repaired for safety reasons, when a simple wiring change in design would prevent such an old "christmas tree light failure effect" completely. Gm should be forced to recall such vehicles and make an alternate change in wiring to protect the brake lights from such failure.

5 Brake Light problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/15/2008

Ongoing problem with brake light failures. This has happened several times over the last few years. I ordered the Tahoe through my local dealer in 1997. It only has 84,000 miles on it and has not been abused in any way. Spent several hundred dollars at the dealership for repairs. The brake lights keep going out. The dealer cannot explain it. I received a ticket on February 15, 2008 for not having any brake lights. This is a dangerous situation which needs resolution. When I took my vehicle to the dealership the first time for the brake lights it cost me over $500. 00. The brake light situation has never been resolved and ever since their "repair" the antilock brakes do not function correctly and we have had to have the brakes replaced several times.

The 3rd brake light is an led type and is inoperable. I have noticed that a number of same style chevy Tahoes have the same problem. Nothing has been done at this point to rectify the problem.
