6 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 09/19/2014

I own a 2005 chevy Tahoe with 5. 3 liter engine. The motor has consumed 2 quarts oil since its last oil change. The vehicle currently has 83000 miles. It is serviced regularly. Chevrolet is well aware of this problem and needs to address it immediately. I am told by my local Chevrolet dealership that it has repaired numerous vehicles because of the oil consumption issue. The cost to repair is between 300 and 3000 dollars. It might need new pistons and rings because of the faulty inexpensive part. Epic fail by chevy not to alert their customers of this problem.

7 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

8 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

I purchased my 2007 Tahoe to be the last car I would need to buy as I am near retirement. I am very worried now that it will need some major repairs to correct the oil consumption. Chevrolet should cover these repairs as it is obvious there is a design problem with the engine and thousands of users have this problem. For the enormous cost of the vehicle I expected better. I should have kept my old 1998 Tahoe. It probably would still be running and wouldn’t need oil between oil changes.

9 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

My chevy Tahoe has had an oil consumption issue since purchase in 2007. The oil light will come on after 2500 miles after a recent service and stated that the level is low. Taking it to the dealership multiple times and they continue to state it is "normal" oil consumption. This is not normal operating conditions and needs to be addressed by gm.

10 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

The oil level low light came on in the car. I took the car to my local mechanic. He also has a 2007 Tahoe. He told me to take the car to the local chevy dealer. He has seen this many times in the 2007 Tahoe, apparently they burn oil and it is due to a defective design of the piston and piston ring. The dealer paid for his Tahoe to be fixed. I was told that gm now uses a minimum participation financial calculator and gm would only pay for 45% of the cost to repair, leaving me with a $1,705. 10 repair bill. I was able to get the repair cost down to $850. However, this car is defective. I have not even finished paying for the car and the dealer is telling me I need a new engine due to a design flaw. I think gm needs to do the right thing here and repair their flawed 2007 Tahoes. Gm clearly knows of the flaw as they redesigned the 2008 piston and piston ring.

15 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

Check engine light began flashing, check stabilitrak light came on, engine sputtered. This was first of 4 incidents from oil consumption issue gm has with this engine. They didn't recall the engine, but had a protocol - a series of bandaids that shops used to repair or prolong. Ultimate step is engine rebuild/replacement, which gm did under warranty for those "in the know. " my dealership in small town hamilton, OH, rose Chevrolet, was dropped by gm and is now independent. Neither rose or gm informed me of this ongoing problem. After spending more than $9-- out of my own pocket, the car now needs pistons and rings, for another $3000. Again, gm knew of this issue and didn't inform me of it. Had I know about it, and the magnitude, I would have insisted on repair or replacement while under warranty. I'm a sales rep and drive a lot. The car now has 146,000 miles and I have a case number with gm. They should pay for the repair, reimburse me for my out of pocket and/or repurchase the vehicle from me.

17 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 12/01/2001

The contact owns a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact noticed that the vehicle was experiencing oil consumption failure. Tracy Chevrolet performed an oil consumption diagnostic that spanned three years. The result of the diagnostic was that there was potential engine failure. In 2004, the dealer stated that the cylinder head level was missing a part from the factory assembly. Two months later, the vehicle continued to experience oil consumption failure. A general motors customer service agent promised to provide a new engine if the repair to the cylinder did not remedy the failure. Three years later, the dealer performed another oil consumption test and found yet another part missing from the original assembly. The contact asked general motors to replace the engine as promised but they refused to comply. The current mileage is 83,600 and failure mileage was 15,000.

18 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

Purchased brand new 2001 chevy Tahoe and within first 3 months noticed oil level was lower than expected. Began 'oil consumption' test with tracy dealership that extended into 2004 until they finally agreed 2 tear down the engine. . . All 3 years was ongoing oil loss within the engine! they only went 2 the cylinder heads despite several requests by expert mechanic's advice 2 go further into the piston level. Tracy Chevrolet reported their findings as 'parts missing from cylinder heads from original engine assembly'. Gm's ceo promised 2 replace my engine if the oil consumption wasn't fixed. Within 1 month of that repair, oil loss continued. Another 'oil consumption' test scenario was established and another 3 years passed with me reporting 2 them every 500 miles for oil level checks. Again, 3 years passed before they finally decided 2 tear the engine down again. (3/7/07). The cylinder heads were fine so gm recommended that they go down 2 the piston level (sound familiar??) where they found another missing part from original factory assembly! (oil control rings) they tried 2 have me accept they were doing me a favor as I was now out of warranty. I had 2 remind them that I reported this 2 them well within my 1st year, they were responsible for delaying appropriate repairs, and now, this engine was probably missing other parts. I was holding them 2 their original promise of replacing my engine. The ceo's office has it well documented yet they are going back on their promise and want me 2 just keep an unsafe, unreliable engine. They can't guarantee that other vital parts aren't missing and I doubt any of them would feel safe with this engine. Can you tell me what damage has occurred 2 other engine parts due 2 this extensive prolonged oil loss? they refuse 2 provide any further assistance, information, or my replacement engine. They are offering me instead 3 free oil changes for 6 years of worry, inconvenience, and enduring their complacency with this safety issue.
