3 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/27/2011

Brake line corrosion!! (all lines!), one ruptured, lost brakes, forced off road to stop, extended braking distance, almost crashed. Driving home from airport at 1am, getting off highway, brake pedal went all the way to floor. . . . Brakes kicked in approx. 90-95% of the way to the floor, but took forever to stop. Another car was at traffic light off the highway, and I was forced into the grass on the side of the road before car came to full stop. Towed home - I replaced master cylinder thinking thats where the failure was, but then I couldn't bleed rear brakes and noticed the puddle under the truck and crawled under to discover there was a brake line that was completely rusted through. This happened at the abs module, where 5 brake lines connect, and all the lines show dangerous corrosion levels and need to be replaced. It also affected a fuel line right there too, (fuel filter is right there). . . . I have owned the truck since new, and there is 1 line that looks brand new (never replaced), and all other lines in that area are dangerously corroded. Very odd that one line looks good, and all the other lines are bad. I have pictures of all lines and corrosion available.

6 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

I bought new a 2004 chevy Tahoe. It is kept garaged 99% of its life. About 2 years ago I started smelling gasoline on windless days whenever I would exit the car after any trip. At the time in 2006 I thought it was almost impossible for there to be a gas line that was rusted and I thought that somehow a line must have cracked. I went to my mechanic and had him check it out. He called me the next day and told me that the gasoline right where they exited the fuel tank were badly rusted and thats where the gas was coming from. He brought me into his shop and with the car up in the air, he was able to show me using 2 mirrors because it wasn't possible to see by looking up as to how badly the 3 lines had rusted. At this time the car only had about 12000 miles on it. He explained to me that where the fuel lines came out of the tank that it was shaped like a bowl and that even if I was just washing it, there would still be a fairly large puddle of water there. This car was my pride and joy. I never drove it in wet weather and I never drove it during the winter. I was shocked to see how much gas was coming out and my first thoughts were that one spark with all those fumes and gas and I'd be a dead man. I always kept the gas tank full, it never went below 2/3 of a tank. My mechanic told me that he had repaired 7 or 8 of these on other Chevrolet large SUV's including a couple other Tahoes a couple suburbans and 2 or 3 denali's. He told me that he couldn't remember which but he was aware that these other cars were covered by a recall but that for some reason the Tahoe wasn't even though they all had the same gas tank. I should not have put off writing this letter. At any rate it cost me 750. 00 to get it repaired and I'm just waiting for it to happen again. This seems very much like a design problem. I have to wonder why the Tahoe was not included in any recall as the are all the same.

9 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 04/17/2003

On 04-17-03 I went out to drive my 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. As I began to drive down the street the vehicle shut off and the battery indicator light came on. I lost power steering and brakes. As the vehicle rolled, I was able to get it over to the right side of the road out of traffic . I attempted to start it a couple of times before noticing that gas was coming out from underneath the drivers area and was pouring onto the ground. I had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic who advised that the gas line became disconnected. I had just left my son in surgery and was to come back to pick him and my wife up. This incident could have become very bad and killed myself and possibly my family had they been in the vehicle. This needs to be investigated and action taken. In the past I along with my wife have reported vehicle problems to the dealer with them taking little to no action. Please help also the steering appears to be becoming a problem.

10 Fuel Hoses Lines/piping And Fittings problem of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe

Failure Date: 08/09/2000

In July the fuel filter was replaced in santa fe, nm. In August I was driving on I-25 to castle rock , colorado and 1-1/2 mile from the exit to castle rock, the car suddenly lost power and stopped running. Was able to get the car to the shoulder but it was very scary. There was barely room for the car between the very busy interstate and the ditch on the other side of the shoulder. I had the car towed to castle rock, they couldn't repair it until a part was ordered and received from denver, so I rented the last car rental in castle rock and drove home. Then went back two days later to pick up my car. This was very costly to me because the towing was covered by my insurance, but the other costs were my responsibility. It cost $130. 90 in santa fe to replace the filter ($91. 50 labor) at the santa fe Chevrolet dealership. The cost to replace the pump module and strainer was $533. 80 ($232. 00 labor) at the south street automotive as no Chevrolet dealership was available. The rental car cost was approximately $300. 00. I can understand replacing a fuel filter on a three-year car perhaps, but the other failure (for which there was no warning) was not only very costly but a very scary safety hazard.
