While driving on highway had to brake stering wheel violent went left if anyone had of been in other lane I would have hit them head on. I thought the brake caliper was locking up. So I went to part store bought a nw onr($92) took it to a garage of a man I knew. He put it on lift to change caliper he noticed control arm complete ly rusted out on cross frame. . There was also a hole about 7"long rusted out of frame. This wasant a safety prob. He said not to drive it wads not safe to drive . It was a Sunday no one working on Sunday. Went back Monday. He had to do alot of welding metal plates just to get it home. Home checked on line for a cross member cheapest$300 plus shipping thats not to install it. Ihave a limited income so cant afford it right now. Chevy has new this prob for a long time according to internet as toyoto did wth rusting. Out frames. The frame on this car should have replace by chevy they used poor metal that would be unsafe. Ive seem car frames frome way back better than this. Ive only hafthis carfor a week. The body and transmission are excellent but thr rest was made cheap. Its a 2000 traker (148000 mi) 4cyl 2. 0 4wheel drive. . I also noticed online the prob was right side of cross member. This prob same in 1999. Chevy wants to delay long enough so they are a cup full of rust. Its sad how crooked people can be just to make a buck. Thank you thomas l wood 488 tartan pl lancaster ohio 43130. (don't have access to pictures.

Passenger front lower control arm mounting bracket has detached from the front crossmember. Happened today March 28th 2017. Vehicle was originally sold and driven in north missouri. Does have considerable rust, but didn't know the suspension mounting point would break free? I was a few blocks from my residence when it happened and no injuries occurred. It happened on north side dr. In fort worth,TX. Overcast, dry pavement on traffic. I hit bumps on railroad crossing and quite a few potholes.

Vehicle has a known and serious safety manufacturing defect previously covered under a "special coverage - #06186" for corrosion and rust proofing causing the subframe and control arms corrode and detach. Gm refuses to honor previously expired special coverage and considers this an "out of pocket" expense.
Driving on expressway car started to vibrate and shake severely. The car was pulling to the left and steering became difficult, experiencing partial loss of control. I pulled over to shoulder of highway and upon investigation noticed the cross beam was rusted through and the left drivers side control arm had broke free. I had the car towed to the nearest Chevrolet dealer and was told the vehicle was three months past the extended coverage. I had the Tracker checked previously for this problem when I received a letter from Chevrolet about a possible issue and was told there was not an issue with my car. Really! if Chevrolet knew there was a safety issue, it should have been repaired to begin with.

Tl- the contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Tracker. While driving at approximately 45 mph and depressing the brake pedal the vehicle began to pull to the left. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic stated there was corrosion found on the front lower control arm bracket and crossmember. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was a special coverage extending the warranty for the front suspension and crossmember corrosion but the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 177,554. Ds.
The lower control arm rotted away from the subframe on my Tracker while I was driving. There was a special coverage issued by gm but they are refusing to honor it as it was not a recall and my title is a salvage title. (the care was deemed road safe at the time ohio title was issued by the ohio state highway patrol) special coverage number is 06186. Chevy admits it is due to improper corrosion treatment in that area they will only honor special coverages on salvage vehicles if it is an emission issue not a general safety issue unless of course it is upgraded to a recall.
Received a letter from gm stating that my 2002 chevy Tracker might have a corrosion problem with the front suspension cross member because it did not receive adequate corrosion protection. Corrosion may progress over time therefore causing the front lower control arm bracket to separate from the crossmember. I brought my car for the free inspection and found out my car did indeed have this problem. The letter states that the crossmember will be replaced at no charge. I was told by the shop manager that this would cost me between $1200 to $1500 and that gm will only cover the cost of the part ! I am puzzled??? why should I have to pay any part of this ??? should gm be responsible for the entire bill ???.

I was pulling out of driveway and heard a snap pulled it back into driveway called my mechanic I was afraid to drive it found out it was sub frame. Wasn't going to get it fixed and just park it until a week later I got a safety notice is what gm is calling it in the mail that said their was not sufficient corrosion protection on the vehicle and this problem could happen if not inspected and that I should have it checked well I already had it checked prior to the notice. And when I went to have it fixed as per the notice told me to do. The local chevy garage and gm told me that I was passed the mileage cut off for this. In frustration I gave away the vehicle to my sister. Why is their a cut off for mileage if this is a gm mistake and now they expect me to pay more than $1000. 00 to get this repaired.
2000 chevy Tracker rusted right front control arm bracket. Consumer states that there is a hole totally through the crossmember. She also states that the front end assembly was loosened due to this rusting. The consumer was denied reimbursment, because according to cheverolet, the oart that was included in the special coverage was not replaced and also the repair was not made by an authorized Chevrolet dealer.
Car began to shake violently @ 35 mph. Control arm mounting bracket had separated from front cross-member. Front cross-member had progressive corrosion specifically at the control arm bracket location. Replaced with a new front cross-member. Digital photos available of part with separation while on vehicle.
