Nine problems related to ignition have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Larger occuring issues which could effect safety include the vehicle randomly deciding to change from 2wd/a4wd/4wdh4wdl whenever it wants to under various weather/road conditions (including perfect weather and road surface) and occasional random ignition system failure this is not safe at all I have taken it to the chevy dearlership and they said it is a safety issue and that they need to do a recall on it they have had several rigs like this one come in for the same issue . . I believe that chevy gm needs to do a recall and have this fixed before I or someone else is injured or killed. .
Our 2002 chevy Trailblazer mirrors will not reset to the memory positions. The mirrors change positions by themselves and have to be readjusted everytime the car ignition is turned off.
Exterior side mirrors with memory option fail to return to set position when key is inserted in ignition. Mirrors have to be reset almost every time key is inserted in ignition. Dealer re-programmed mirrors. But problem still exists. Dangerous because if you don't notice mirrors have moved and you go to make lane change in emergency mirrors could be out of adjustment causing increased time to change lanes.
Spontaneous electrical fire in 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer security lock on the ignition. The fire started in the lower dash by the consumer's right knee.
Purchased new 2002 Trailblazer ltz which has had this problem since 2005. Driver & passenger mirrors position themselves erratically at every ignition and sometimes while driving. A constant twitching on the passenger side also occurs while driving. It is very dangerous when mirrors are not positioned correctly once driving. Chevrolet dealer failed to find the fault and reprogrammed twice. No parts have been replaced as they have now idea what the problem is or how to fix it. This seems to be a common problem, however.
The light on the 4 wheel drive knob is always jumping back and forth from 2 wd to 4 wd . The service 4 wheel drive light came on several times. The vehicle was taken to my Chevrolet dealership and it took them 5 days to figure out the service 4 wheel drive light was due to the ignition? my ignition does not start properly anymore. The lights on the 4 wd knob still blink. I do not know if the vehicle is safe. The dealership claims it is safe?.
The consumer was able to take the key out of the ignition although the vehicle was in gear.
