Alternator/generator/regulator problems of the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Seven problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2013

This is just the most recent of electrical problems I have had with the 2003 Trailblazer lt. Since the vehicle reached about 47000 miles I have had repetitive electrical problem: ac went out, radio went out, replace alternators three times batteries 4, refusal to start, some power vampire sucking out the power, and now I am driving along and the entire instrument cluster stops working. I get to the grocery store and shop then come out and it is working again. Then the next day, none of the gauges are working from the time I started it. I called chevy at 1-800-222-1020 and was informed there is no recall, but I see this is a common problem according to on-line complaints. Sean, at Chevrolet said they can't do anything until it is seen by a dealer. I have evaluation appointment set for 3/4/2013.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

When starting the vehicle, it periodically will not start, lose all power, key gets stuck in the ignition without ability to return ignition to off position. There is a sound (like a high voltage sound coming from a transformer) and eventually resets itself, until 2 days ago. It would not reset itself, resulting in it being towed to a repair center. They indicated it was the alternator and battery and after changing both, the service engine soon light came back on and the high voltage sound has returned. There are times the rear wiper will turn on without my touching anything and times where the rpm gage will get stuck.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2010

Instrument cluster panel stops working. Gas gauge shows empty, battery light appears, oil gauge and other instruments start acting erratically. I had my 2003 chevy Trailblazer at the dealer several times. 1st time they replaced the alternator, next time I was told the battery was weak. I had the battery checked at another location and it tested fine. My instruments are not registering properly again. This is about the 4th time this has happened and I don't want to be stuck somewhere along the highway. I never know when this problem will restart.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

Speedometer, generator gauge, and oil pressure gauge stopped working over three years ago. I checked for a recall but was told there was not one on this model. I was told there were recalls for other Chevrolet vehicles, and kept waiting for a notice regarding the Trailblazer. I am worried now the fuel gauge will stop working. The mileage is now at almost 81,000 miles. The speedometer and other gauge issues create a very hazardous problem, and is detrimental to the safety of me and my children / other passengers. I would like to be notified of a recall notice.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2008

I own a 2003 chevy Trailblazer and I've replaced alternator but the lights still seem to dim and flicker. This is a safety issue and must be looked at by the makers and the dealer. I recommend a recall or replacement of faulty equipment. As I look on forums this seems to be a common problem with this particular vehicle.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2007

For approx. 4 months I would go to get into my Trailblazer and the vehicle would be dead. Would not start unless I had it jumped. It would go 2 weeks with no problem then out of the blue, not work. I had the battery changed 2 times, alternator, starter checked with no problem. Finally after the last time, I had the alternator people come and get it and they checked it out for 2 days. The abs system is what came up. I had to have it taken to the dealer that I purchased it from (I have only had this vehicle purchased used for a year and couple of months-vehicle is only 4 years old now) and it is the abs module costing me $1150. 00 to be fixed. Dealer states that it stays on after vehicle is turned off and running my battery.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2003

Our windshield wipers were inoperable. The wiper switch was turned on with absolutely no response from the wipers. The dealership has replaced it. However, other electrical problems keep occurring. For example, our air conditioning switch malfunctioned, the onstar did not send tracking information properly, the alternator needed to be replaced, and the fan for the heater would not work at any speed except low. We have only had this vehicle since August. I am thinking that this in an electrical problem instead of each individual piece being faulty.
