14 problems related to battery have been reported for the 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
After driving the vehicle like normal, stopped at a gas station and when it was restarted, the fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery gauge, tachometer, pretty much the entire instrument panel stopped working then came back on. Also, instead of reading driver like it normally does, the panel was reading unknown driver. Then as we were driving down the interstate home, the speedometer went to 0 and would not come back up. After we got home, the next day the panel worked fine. This has occurred numerous time since the first incident in 2011. I have read multiple forums and posts online from others stating it is the instrument panel cluster that may be the problem and there was a recall on other chevy makes but not the Trailblazer. This is a very scary problem and should be covered by chevy due to the numerous other Trailblazer owners with the same issue.
Safty issue!!!! I own a 2003 chevy Trailblazer. My speedometer started acting up a couple of months ago and got worse this month. Sometimes the needle starts at 50 or 70 mph insead of 0 and moves up from there. It will say that I am doing over 120 mph when I am only going about 45. Other times it will stay on one number at not move at all. Two weeks ago I turned on my car and the needle was pointing straight down to the odometer. I bought a new battery and that did not help. We unplugged the battery for 30 min and it rest everything. Two days later I was having problems again. We researched the problem on line only to find out that a very large number of Trailblazers were having this problem and that we needed to call gm. I did. The part has not been recalled even though the person I talked to knew exactlly what the problem was 5 min into our conversation. She told me I had to take my Trailblazer tot he dealership to confirm. I called the dealership and the service guy I talked to also knew what the problem was in less than 5 min. I took the car in and continued to be in contact with chevy to seek financial assistance. I was transfered up to the next step where a very rude man denied my claim because of the millage on my car. I had to pay for the entire thing and they would not provide me with the parts that they took off my car. The service guy a the dealership said their was a core charge on my part so he had to send it into chevy so they could rebuild it. Not knowing how fast I was going and knowing that my other gages were going to fail as well (since they are all conected to the cluster) is a major safety concern for me. It does not take mtch research on the internet to determine this is a major issue that chevy is not taking care of.
The gauge cluster on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer stopped working over two years ago. From the readout upon my dashboard gauges, I have no idea at what speed I'm driving, how much fuel is in my tank, what is the electrical supply from my battery, or the engine's oil pressure. The tachometer does not register prm's. Thankfully I use a tomtom gps to gauge my speed, and the odometer does function, so I know to stop for a fuel refill every 250-300 miles traveled. This will usually place me at between 1/4 tank and empty. ## VIN failed ## 2003 chevy Trailblazer ##.
We own a chevy Trailblazer, 2003 ext! I swear the SUV is possessed!speedometer sporadically acts up, stating higher mph, sometimes it goes over 100mph, when were only going 30mph! it wont go back to 0 unless you turn the vehicle on/off repeatedly! oil, battery and temp gauges all high, yet dealer cant find problem! problem doesn't always occur yet I rely on my navigation system to determine speed as I no longer trust the 2003 chevy Trailblazer.
Speedometer tachometer and battery gauge do not work.
Beginning 2 weeks ago the speedometer on my 2003 chevy Trailblazer has not been working properly. The needle will go past 120 mph and when your stopped it will be at 30-40 mph. This is extremely dangerous since my son has his learners permit and was driving the first time the speedometer malfunctioned. We were on the highway. I looked on-line and found several people with the same problem. One suggested disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes. I did this and it worked for 1 week. I disconnected it 2 more times so far. Today I called gm at 800-630-2438 to report the problem & see if there was a recall. I was told there was no recall but that I should take it to the dealer for diagnostic testing. I asked if I would be charged and she said yes. I told her that I can't afford to pay them just for diagnostics and that they already know what the problem is since it is all over the internet about so many of their vehicles doing this.
Instrument panel gauges have been not working properly. Oil gauge is pegged way past the highest number. Battery voltage shows minus volts, rpm shows minus numbers when stopped or even zero rpms when moving. Temp gauge now starts showing less than normal. This is completely unsafe and needs to be fixed by chevy. If other models in this class are fixed why not the Trailblazer.
I purchased the vehicle with approximately 63,000 miles already on it. Within a month I noticed the speedometer was doing funny things like reading 100mph when I was only driving about 25mph. I contacted a dealer and was told it would cost $500 to repair. We do not have that kind of money so I left it. The problem continued until the speedometer stopped working altogether. I had learned how to gauge my speed by using the takometer but that started to go shortly after the speedometer. Now my battery gauge is starting to show signs of fritzing. I have read online that this is a very common problem with these vehicles and that gm has not issued a recall. I now have a gps which can tell me my speed but the battery gauge is a definate safety issue. Thank you!.
Speedometer failed during holiday trip . Had cruise on when approach an intersection made turn when I checked speed it said 90 slowed down was almost rearended after that I realized what happened so I drove with flow of traffic . Next day got on line did some research found out gm has this problem on several types of vehicles some recalled some not . As of now I disconnected battery for 15min. Reconnected it and its working again. To replace the instrument panel is a 300 -700 dollar repair . Doesn't seem fair because they should last the life of the vehicle . If a young driver or elderly driver were to have this problem on an interstate highway could cause a chain reaction accident countless injuries / deaths and property damage. Gm knows of the problem why aren't they forced to fix it. Goes back to the 2001 model year to present . The internet has probably thousands with this same issue. And couldn't access gms complaint site.
2003 chevy Trailblazer LS 4x4 - the gauges on the dash board do not work. This includes the speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery gauge and octameter. I've read many bulletin boards indicating the same issue. The dashboards for these vehicles should be recalled.
No warning. While driving down the road, the car just shuts down. The first time we had it towed to aaa automark, they replaced the battery but did not find anything else wrong. It has happened 3 times since. We have been able to coast off of the road without incidence so far, but this is dangerous. I went to the website below, several people have experienced and described the same conditions. I do not drive the car on the highway at this time. . Read more...
Ac delco factory installed battery leaks battery acid on the positive side terminal causing my 2003 chevy Trailblazer ext to lose all power including loss of being able to open rear door.
Have had my 2003 Trailblazer lt 2wd v8 in the shop under warranty many times. First was a recall on the drive shaft which was replaced 3 times. Still have a noise the dealed says they don't hear! next came the taillight recall. Now I have a recurring problem with a dead battery. This doesn't happen all the time and nothing has been left on to cause it. I can go into a store and come out to find it dead. When you charge the battery, then either the heated seats work improperly, the blower won't come on, something different every time.
Complaint received via e-mail. " I would like to share the defects discovered on my vehicle since I purchased this on October 2003. Few months I drove my Trailblazer, I was stuck at the airport because it won't start and I brought it to the dealership for repair which lasted for 3 days. They told me it was just a case of low battery power. I was not in agreement with their reason. I wrote gm headquarters demanding an exchange or replacement of the truck. They declined my request, instead they offered me an extended warranty. The following year, I was driving at around 25 mph, when I changed gear all of a sudden the gear shifter came loose and practically detached it's linkage. I panicked and slowly pulled over to the side of the road. The dealer repaired the shifter for free. Then just this month I was driving on the freeway at around 50 mph, I noticed the rpm was between 7-8 and the engine revved hard, but there was no power. The speed remained constant even when I pressed the gas pedal fully. I brought the vehicle to the dealership and they found out that the transmission is defective and they replaced it under warranty. The total mileage driven as of this time is 30,000 miles. ".
