11 problems related to alternator/generator/regulator have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Stabilitrak light comes on intermittently for no apparent reason. Have had brake fluid, brake pads, rotors, sensors and tires replaced. Traction control and abs checked; all is good. No cel code relating to this issue. Traction control off button doesn't work once light appears. There is no difference in driving when light is on. Still haven't figured out what causes it. Battery, power cords, and alternator have both had to be replaced do to issues with the voltage outputs. Now to replace fuse box and ecm due to more voltage output issues. Cel has had no indications of an ecm, fuse box, alternator, or battery problem until they were beyond repair (this also happened with other transfer case leak, loss of reverse gear, and front differential leak) . Cel comes and goes by itself at anytime with no difference in drivability or conditions. Each time it reappeard it's thrown different sensors and/or circuits failing or high/low voltages including O2, maf, tps, evap system, wheel speed, fuel pressure, oil pressure, steering wheel, gas and brake pedal position, air bag impact, just to name a few. My car has recently started going into limp mode at random due to this electrical issue. Only remedy for this problem is disconnecting the wiring harness and allowing the fuse box and ecm to cool down. And finally, my oil filler tube seal broke and oil was spitting out into engine bay. Coincidentally, my pcv valve tube had also broken, and the tube was hanging loose right in front of the oil filler tube. As a result, pcv tubing sucked up a large amount of oil into the air intake; with no check engine light illumination indicating any problems during the time of failure. My air intake system is nearly ruined (not to mention the $$$ I shelled out in oil) and the wear down on parts has been detrimental to the life of the engine. This car is nothing but a cash cow for gm.

2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2014

I have bought 2 new batteries with in a month of each other due to my battery being dead over and over again. I was told my alternator was fine only that something keeps draining the life out of my battery. This has been going on for months. If I let the Trailblazer sit for 1 to 2 days the battery is dead again. I also noticed that the face of my radio has started to get hot. When we first had auto zone change the battery we noticed that it caused our air vents to stop working. I looked this up on line and it looks like I'm not the only one who has this problem. I see it's a big problem. I don't know if there is a recall , but I'm scared it is a electrical problem that could hurt me and my 4 kids if it happens while driving. Can you please help me with this.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

The drivers side window control panel would not work for any of the windows. The vehicle was not running. I checked the fuse and found it to be blown. I replaced it with the exact same size and type of fuse. Then I tried to roll up the drivers side window. The door window control panel switch then began to smoke and there was the smell of burning electronics and plastic. I took it to the dealership and was told the control panel and regulator had fried and would need to be completely replaced.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the headlights and the heating system failed intermittently. 5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

I have had several problems with my power windows going up and down and then just not working at all. I smell smoke sometimes but can't locate the cause of the smoke. I have also had problems with the electrical connection to the radio, which also works sometimes but the majority of the time it does not work. I have had this problem for a long time now and need a resolution before my SUV catches fire. I also have problems with the drivers side power door lock which works intermittantly-whenever it pleases. I recently started having problems with my rear wiper blade-turn it on and it moves a little then stops. My headlights dim up and down while driving. . . I have replaced the alternator and the battery and still don't have enought power for some reason-dealerships want to charge a lot of money just to diagnose when it appears that this is obviously a defect in the electrical system of the SUV.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 45 mph, the battery indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. Ten seconds later, the brakes failed and the brake pedal extended to the floor. The contact had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. She drove to a nearby dealer and was informed that the alternator failed while driving and did not produce enough energy to the brakes in order to stop. The dealer replaced the alternator and the battery. The contact believes that this is a safety hazard and the manufacturer should issue a recall. Through online research, he found numerous complaints for this same defect. The current and failure mileages were 33,900.

The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the alternator failed to work properly. As a result, the vehicle made loud noises. The noise occurred every time the vehicle was started for at least four months. The contact has not taken the vehicle to be inspected for the alternator failure. He was informed by another dealer that the bearings were faulty. He feels that this is a saftey issue because the alternator and battery are needed for the vehicle to operate properly. The current and failure mileages were 39,000. Updated 02-18-09 updated 02/18/09.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2008

There were no events that led to the part failure. I own a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext and have had multiple problems with the vehicle the most recent being, having to replace the alternator and battery due to a bad/faulty diode in the alternator.

Failure Date: 08/15/2008

Car started making a very faint whining sound and has gotten quite loud and have had it looked at and spoke to other owners with the same problem and so far have found out that the rear bearing goes out in the alternator quite early as in my vehicle which only has 28,000 miles on it.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2006

2006 chevy trailbazer has a bad alternator. I took the day off work to fix the vehicle. To my surprise you can't get one for this vehicle from anywhere. They are on backorder through gm. I guess I need to find a new way to work until my new one arrives.
