Battery problems of the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Six problems related to battery have been reported for the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Battery problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2012

While driving down city road, I began to smell a burnt smell. I looked to my left and saw a little wisp of smoke from my driver side power window switches. I immediately stopped, shut off vehicle, popped the hood and disconnected the power to my battery. I called a friend who is a mechanic and he took out the switch cluster. Opened the cluster and saw a burnt mark on the bottom left of circuit board. It will need to be replaced. Pictures received 06/25/12 updated 06/29/2012.

2 Battery problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2012

This issue started when the back hatch of the Trailblazer would not lock or open and the rear wiper would not work. After dealing with this for a few months the doors, windows and driver side seat stopped working. Also, the doors would not lock/unlock with the keyless entry. After some research, I changed the lgm fuse (it was blown). Once the fuse was changed everything started working except the back hatch. I manually locked the back hatch and closed it. Once the hatch was closed all of the doors locked and I could not open the truck. I manually used the key and opened the driver side door. When I opened the door I could hear the electrical wires burning in the door panel and throughout the truck. The truck was filled with smoke and smelt of burnt plastic. Luckily I was not inside the truck when the fire started because none of the unlock or window buttons worked. I would have been stuck inside of a burning truck. I unplugged the negative charge of the battery and put the fire out. Once the fire was out I tried starting the truck and it would not start. I went through all of the gears with the truck off, I pulled up the e-brake and the truck started. Once I shut the truck back off it would not start again.

3 Battery problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

My fuel gauge on my 2006 chevy Trailblazer slowly stopped to where it is no longer working at all. Also, suddenly today, both of my dim (low beam) head lights stopped working after having the battery replaced. Have checked fuses and they are ok. I have seen many complaints for both of these issues.

4 Battery problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

On sept. 12th, the battery on my 2006 Trailblazer died. While trying to jump the battery, sparks flew and the charge was unsuccessful. The battery was replaced that day with a new one. On sept. 16th, the door control module on the driver's side stopped working and the fuel gauge was erratic. On sept. 22nd, the entire control instrument panel stopped working. None of the gauges or displays work. On sept. 24th, replaced the door control module with a used part to save money. The instrument panel still does not work, and from what I understand, both issues (door control module and instrument panel) are common problems with Trailblazers. Chevrolet has not put either of these on the recall list. The instrument panel is not exactly a wear and tear item, and I have never had this part go out on any other car I've driven. The fix is $400-600 and the diagnostic test alone is $100. I cannot afford to get this fixed, and not having a speedometer, temperature or fuel gauge is a huge safety issue for a single mom and 2 young kids!.

5 Battery problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

After changing the vehicle's battery, the fuel system, air system and 4x4 system have all failed. GMC is aware of my issue and hundreds of others. They refuse to fix this known issue, this vehicle is very dangerous to drive.
